About this property
Casa Barone - Farmhouse full of character in Victoria on Gozo
You are welcome to this old, charming farmhouse by a small overgrowned yard, where you will find a nice place for sitting, dining and relaxing. Just aside the small, but well equipped kitchen - incl. microwave. In the ground-floor you also find the rustic living area.
A very characterful open staircase from the courtyard leads to the 1st floor. On half way is the first of both bedrooms with double-bed. Shower and toilet of this room are some steps upwards on the level of the 2nd bedroom. This one offers 3 single beds and it's own bathroom. Air Conditioning in both bedrooms (by coin-box system).
By a steep spiral-staircase (beware for kids!!) you come to the large roof-terrace with its magnificant views over the roofs of Victoria to the cathedral "St.George" and the new refurbished Citadelle. On this terrace you'll find sunchairs incl. umbrella and the possibility for BBQ.
Restaurants and all shopping facilities are within walking distance. Parking is about 3-5 minutes away. From Victoria you can reach all sights and swimming possibilities within a few minutes by bus or rental car. Victoria is the main town of Gozo with a population of about 7000. Until 1887, the town bore the Arabic name Rabat, which means "suburb" (not to be confused with Rabat near Mdina on the main island of Malta). It is situated in the centre of Gozo. Victoria is also the centre of life on the island and its cultural centre. The flat, however, is in a quiet alley. The house in the old city cannot be reached by car.
Absolutely worth seeing is the newly renovated citadel high above the town, which was built as early as the Bronze Age, around 1500 BC. From the fortifications you have a wonderful 360° view over the island. In addition to a museum, the citadel also houses Gozo's cathedral and the courthouse.
Also worth seeing is the baroque basilica of San George of St. George. This dates from the Middle Ages, but was given a new façade in 1818 and was elevated to basilica status by Pope Pius XII in 1958. This basilica is also known as the Golden Church. It is completely covered with marble. It is richly decorated with paintings and statues and is located on Pjazza San Gorg, which is south of the market square - not far from your house.
