Island Duplex, 3 Bedrooms, 2.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 6)
Put your feet up and relax! Our vacation home is part of an Island duplex. It is the 'main house' built behind one of the historic Balboa Island beach houses. It has all character of an Island home yet with all your modern amenities. It is decorated in lovely antiques and beach memorabilia. If you spent time on Balboa Island as a child, this will bring back fond memories, and make some new ones. It's the perfect place to share with your children or grandchildren!
Upstairs is an open plan living room, kitchen and a small deck with BBQ. HDTV, with cable and DVD, Wi-Fi, and Bose Music System (for radio and iPod etc.) will satisfy your media needs. Master bedroom has full ensuite bath, second bedroom with 2 twin beds and TV, half bath down the hall. Downstairs is a private bedroom with 2 twins (which can be pushed together for a king bed) and ensuite bathroom. Separate 'beach shower' has outdoor access. Garage with parking for 1 car, washing machine and dryer.
Balboa Island is a little touch of heaven--a small island in Newport Harbor, that has a small town feel. This is a place where the favorite activity is walking around the island on the boardwalk along the bay, so park your car and enjoy the walk! 5 doors down is the calm sandy Bay beach. 2 blocks away is the little ferry that will take you across the bay to the Balboa Peninsula (all for $1), and another block to the Pacific Ocean and miles of wide beaches, the Balboa Pier, swimming, surfing, sunning, and shopping. There’s even a little 'FUN ZONE' with Ferris wheel and arcade games.
Kayaks, sailboats, electric boats, paddle boats, bicycles, etc. are all available to rent at the Fun Zone. Or wander farther afield to Disneyland (25 minutes) or the beaches at Laguna, Corona del Mar, etc. LA is an hour north, San Diego an hour south.

Our grandparents bought this beach house on Balboa Island in 1951 and we have great memories of playing at the beach, body surfing at the ocean, going to the fun zone, eating frozen bananas, and endless hours of barefoot play time around the island. Today, Sally Landis is an artist in Oakland CA, and Bettie Sue Walters works at Deetjen's Big Sur Inn and lives in Aptos CA. We still get to Balboa Island as often as we can, but welcome others to enjoy our beach house when they can!

Why Owner chose Balboa Island
This unit was built behind the historic little yellow beach house with the idea to retain the island character, yet build with modern amenities. It has been decorated with family antiques and beach memorabilia. You'll feel like part of the island's history, yet have the comforts of a modern home. Put your feet up and relax, you're on Balboa Island now!
What makes this House unique
Just 5 houses from the calm sandy beaches and 2 blocks to the ferry, this house is perfectly situated to a relaxing vacation. Park your car in the garage, then walk to the ocean, the fun zone, and the main street with it's wonderful restaurants. You may want to walk to the 'Catalina Flyer' and spend the day in Catalina. Or take the short drive to the beaches of Laguna and Corona Del Mar. Maybe a 30 minute drive to Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm.
Sports & Adventure Activities
I would sum up our stay as a good value. Balboa Island is amazing and this house provides the opportunity to stay on the island for a reasonable price. It is not fancy, but was comfortable and provided a great base of operations.
The garage is a huge plus.
The people who live in the adjoining house are nice.
Two notes for anyone visiting: bring your own beach towels. Be aware that the TV in the main room does not have a DVD available, although you can easily connect to Netflix, Amazon, etc.
thanks for having us!!
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, thank you for your comments. A couple of notes.. We do supply beach chairs, beach mats, beach umbrellas, toys, bogie boards, etc. We had beach towels but they kept disappearing. Also, parents requested that we move the TV with the DVD to the kids room so that the kids could watch the kids DVDs while the adults had the bigger TV in the living room, with access to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and all the other services that people have. We hope to see you again on the Island!
It was super ! everything was just perfect . The house is very well equipped with everything you can think of . The location is great too , Balboa island is well connected to all main routes and highways. The host was lovely and accommodated us and guided us during the booking time . I would highly recommend this property to all. The main living space is upstairs - with one bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor . Our neighbors who live in the front part of the house were very nice and gave us the packages we had ordered online. There's lots of sunlight in the property and a small balcony too which is lovely to get some sun. It's ideal for a small family or group of friends .
One small thing : the double bed in the Master bedroom is small& both me and husband are under 5.8 ft. It's also very springy so if your partner moves you will be woken up. We ended up shifting to the adjacent room with the two singles and slept there at night , as a good nights sleep is essential.master bedroom bathroom tends to clog but no biggie really.
Enjoyed the house and the location - it worked great for our family - would rent again for sure!
charming, functional, very tasteful
we had a great time discovering Orange County: beaches, restaurants, making long walks -and having this lovely house to return to. we cooked a great Thanksgiving dinner there, played games and recreated the time when we lived together/ so it was a sentimental journey for my childhood.everything was of the right scale- normal, familiar, functional. We are leaving with fond memories of this great trip and my family reunion
Perfect Location, quaint and kid-friendly
We had a wonderful time on Balboa Island for Spring Break. The house was just perfect for us. Quaint and cute, with all the amenities you would need. It wasn't some grandeur palace that made me on guard with my 6 and 3 year old. The convenience to the ferry was a huge bonus, it also may have made us spend a few extra $$ on arcade games and rides for our kids : ). The house had everything you needed to enjoy a week away.
It was the perfect beach bungalow style home that I remembered as a kid. You can feel the nostalgia inside from the family photos placed around the house. This is a home the Landis family cherishes - and shares with others to make their own wonderful memories. And we did just that...so thank you!
Affordable, Spacious and a Great Location
This was a terrific house. The two levels, garage, 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms makes for lots of space for a group of 6. The location was great. Balboa Island is a treat and the proximity of the house to the ferry makes trips to the beach easy. The price is really good too!
