Sitting in the comfy Adirondack chairs underneath the deck's tin roof, enjoy sunlight dancing on water, or bask in the sun on the foredeck, letting all your cares drift away, or just take a little snooze if you wish!

Cozy waterfront Chalet nestled in Big Thicket just outside Ace, TX, 56 miles north of Houston Intercontinental Airport. Accommodations: 1 cozy, romantic loft bedroom with queen size bed, 1 bedroom downstairs with full size bed, air-conditioned, woodburning fireplace, HIGHSPEED DSL INTERNET, Satellite TV, stereo, large yard, grill on side deck. Small fishing boat available in the event renter's would like to use it. Area is great for bird and nature watching, biking, running, or just strolling in the country!

To those who have rented in previous years, the problem we had with hydrilla has been completely eliminated! Thanks to our great Lake Restoration Committee's efforts, the lake is once again beautiful! We would love to have you come back and enjoy the tranquility and great fishing that Taylor Lake once again provides.

Wonderful, small-family vacation rental, or cozy, romantic get-away for two. This quiet, charming chalet on a private cove will beckon you back, again and again! With its wonderful 9-hole golf course, historic Livingston has numerous restaurants, fun antique shops and outlet mall just 17 miles away. Dine at the famous Hilltop Restaurant and Herb Farm, just 15 miles away where you will delight in their wonderful gourmet cuisine (reservations only), leisurely peruse their wonderful gift shop.

Visit the Alabama Coushatta Indian Reservation in nearby Woodville, TX. Owner has not personally visited it, but, I has heard the new Cacino is very fun and nice.

Lastly, owner finds it necessary to add that a review received in October 2017, describing me, my property, and the cleanliness of my property as less than stellar, is completely false. Unfortunately, a renter became disgruntled due to a deduction from security deposit to cover a fee for bringing two large dogs. The information was not disclosed during the reservation process. Thinking it may have been an oversight, owner deducted a discounted pet fee, in an attempt to be as nice as possible regarding the situation. Unfortunately, things went completely south immediately after deduction of the discounted pet fee in the amount of $75, resulting in renter writing a completely false, very spiteful review. Additionally, there were damages incurred to the property that owner did not deduct funds to cover from security deposit. The bad review is unfortunate, but, there seems to be nothing owner can do to change things and disclosing the truth of what actually transpired in this documentation appears to be the only way owner can attempt to protect her good reputation.

The above is also revealed to assure future viewers of the website that owner always works very hard to ensure the property is very clean prior to renters' arrival, any need for repairs is addressed very timely, and everything possible is done to ensure renters a wonderful, fun, restful, enjoyable stay. It is the owner's hope that the many wonderful reviews received will overshadow the false one and viewers will be able to recognize the obvious. Owner extends genuine thanks in advance to all who take time to read this.

About The Owner

My late husband and I fell in love with the area while visiting friends who owned weekend houses there and, in 1980, we had the shell of the house built. With the help of wonderful friends, we worked weekends building out the interior. The project took about a year to complete and I have so many great memories of those times. The chalet became our escape from the hectic weekly pace in Houston. We put heart and soul into building out the chalet! When my husband passed away in 1993, the only way I could rationalize keeping the property was to rent it out to vacationers. I've had the good fortune of meeting so many wonderful people who have rented from me since that time and look forward to being blessed with many more!

Serenity Now!!!! ;) feel the stress of every day life and all your cares drift away immediately just driving down the winding road to the property. Taking in God's incredible creation of nature all around is icing on the cake while cooking in the delightful little kitchen with its great view of the lake, or fishing, lounging around, reading, playing games, sitting in the swing, observing nature, taking a stroll, completely relaxing in the quiet beauty of the atmosphere of Taylor Lake! When I arrive, I never want to leave!

The chalet and surrounding area is absolutely beautiful! Had a wonderful time just sitting in different locations around the house & deck, enjoying God's masterpiece. We went out on the boat & got a good ab workout laughing so hard because 3 women couldn't row a boat and we were not confident about working the trolling motor. But we figured it out quickly & were pros in no time! Thanks for allowing others to enjoy your "cozy slice of Heaven"!

It is really a piece of Heaven!!!!

There are no words to describe the degree of rest and tranquility that this place offers. It is perfect to escape from routine and enjoy the most important moments in life that are the family, our pets and nature. During the entire stay we felt a level of belonging to this place, perhaps because Mrs. Vackar is a very kind person. She was always attentive to any need and available at all times in case we needed something. We never had to call her because everything is there. We were greeted with a beautiful greeting card, chocolate cookies and chocolates .... yummy !!!

She had the delicacy to leave ready for us firewood in the chimneys and firepit. Not forgetting to mention the Christmas decoration that made this place more welcoming. Even small toys put in the entrance for my daughter to play when we arrived.

Every day we went out in the boat and went around the lake. We saw beautiful birds, turtles and even an alligator that my daughter named "Coco".

We were there 5 days and we used every place of this property. We enjoyed beautiful sunrises and breakfast on the deck, sunsets on the floating deck, starry nights at the fire pit with marshmallows. Even my dogs were happy.

The last day my 5 year old daughter said goodbye to this place crying because she did not want to leave.

This place is perfect for people who seek tranquility, who like rustic things and who love nature and life. Although for those who can not live without television or internet there is also.

We hope to return very soon.

Peaceful retreat from the city

This property was exactly the peaceful retreat we were seeking from the city. It was not too far from Houston and offered all the amenities we needed for a relaxing weekend. On our first day at the property, we were already discussing when we might return. It was too warm to enjoy the firepit, but we took advantage of the boat for a morning trip out onto the lake, the grill for a steak dinner, and the floating dock (with citronella candles) for a relaxing evening on the water. There was a little something for everyone. While I loved sitting in the chairs on the floating dock, my SO's favorite part was fishing from the edge of the yard into the lake, and our dog enjoyed walking the perimeter of the large yard to seek out new smells. Patricia was an ace at communication before and after our stay. She provided us with all the information we needed for our weekend and promptly replied to any questions or comments we had during the process.

My final take – just got straight to the casino it’s less of a rip off.

1) Renter will request you pay for rental outside of site when booking difficulties occur

2) Renter will accuse you of having additional people “stay” on the property when your mother babysits your child for 3 hours so you can visit the casino (but won't check her camera surveillance and offer you any apology for being wrong)

3) Renter will deduct fees from your deposit that she did not charge for at booking after her neighbors report to her your activities (we brought our dogs, I clicked the button for pets, she didn’t charge the fee at booking and took it out of our deposit on the back end without notice)

4) Renter expects you to clean up after your pet when they poop in the yard but doesn’t state that in terms and conditions

5) The property itself is very nice if you don’t look to close. Deck and stairs need repair, holes in lattice around the bottom of the house where something is living, lots of hair in the bathtub & house is dusty (but you will still pay a cleaning fee)

6) In reality this only sleeps 3 people max. I full size bed and 1 queen size bed.

7) Not all lights and/or fans in working condition

8) Keep your written correspondence. Owner will deny the things she said anyway but at least you can prove your case.

9) Can’t think of anything good to say about rental facilitator either

Owner's Response: Tara, I'm very sorry you were not happy with your stay. Please allow me to address concerns mentioned in your review: 1.) Pet Fees and poop pick up: It is the sole responsibility of renters to check the "pet" option on the website and, when that is checked, the computerized program, in turn, automatically charges the pet fee. Owners have nothing to do with that initial phase. When it was brought to my attention that you brought two large dogs during the rental period, I figured it was simply an oversight on your part, so I deducted $75 from your deposit. The full pet fee, as shown on the website, is $100. The website instructs pet owners to pick up their pet's poop in order to ensure a healthy environment for other incoming pets and management genuinely appreciates renter compliance. 2.) Cleanliness and condition of the property: Every effort is made to ensure the house and property are well-maintained, very clean and ready for arrival of our renters. The property was inspected and cleaned just one day prior to your arrival to ensure its freshness. In that regard, my sincere apology, but, I am at a total loss as to where "lots of hair in the bathtub" and "dust" could have come from. 3.) Broken lattice work and something living under the house: Since the house is located in the heart of the Big Thicket, one of the many wonderful things we have the privilege of experiencing is different kinds of wildlife. In this case, specifically, we have a very pesky, extremely determined Texas Armadillo Momma who is quite successful at breaking through the lattice work every time she has an urgent need and desire to go under the house to lay her eggs. Personally, I'd like to make her a little trap door for easy access, because surely it would ease her stress and cost us less in repairs. Please note: Lattice work has been replaced, Momma Armadillo has laid her eggs! But, we can guarantee that she is absolutely harmless and will be back. 4.) Stair rail that had been pulled loose: Please note, repair completed. 5.) Light bulbs and fan not working: Please note, two new light bulbs have replaced the two that had burned out in the fan fixture upstairs and the fan in the living area has been completely replaced by a beautiful new antler chandelier! Management is always working to improve the property and would like to extend our thanks to you for bringing these things to our attention. We genuinely appreciate your business. Hidden Gem

My husband and I brought My mother-in-law up and it was perfect for the three of us. Beautiful sunrises/sets, tons of wildlife although it's catch and release only at this time. Would definitely recommend.
