Our Cote d’Azur holiday apart/condo, 'Eclat de Couleur', is situated in the pretty fishing town of Villefranche-Sur-Mer, 7km to Nice or Monaco. Its outstanding feature of the apartment is the brilliance of colour 'Eclat de Couleur' of the Bay of Villefranche which opens up before you as you enter the lounge and terrace.

The lounge is spacious (18 Sq m) and bright with high ceilings, opens onto the south east facing terrace (12 sq m) through fully retracting double glazed doors, giving panoramic 270 degree views of the renowned bay.

The master bedroom with double bed and spacious wardrobe (amoire) adjoins the en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom with twin beds uses the adjoining bathroom with shower. The kitchen is in an alcove off the lounge.

The apartment is furnished with modern furniture and a modern electric kitchen with full facilities for self catering for four people including a dishwasher and washing machine. Ceramic tiled floors through-out for easy cleaning.

The lounge and bedrooms are fitted with reversible air conditioning. There is electric storage heating in the lounge for winter evenings and a heated towel rail in the bathroom. Tv channels include English speaking news channels, french terrestrial and radio. The Tv is connected to a DVD / CD player with a selection of DVD's, CD's, books and board games.


Excellent location on Ave General Gallieni, this apartment is a 5 minute walk to restaurants, cafes/bars, shops, including two bakeries, a mini market, greengrocer, ATM's, bus stop and two car parks. There is a twice weekly produce market a 10 minute walk away. It is a ten-minute walk to the beach and rail station. Nice is a 15 minute bus ride, Monaco 15 minutes and Nice-Cote d'Azur Airport is 30 minutes (7 miles). By rail you can visit Monaco, Cannes, Antibes, Menton and the markets in Ventimiglia (Italy). A car is not necessary.


The master bedroom features a large queen size bed 60in (150cm)wide, with bedside tables and reading lamps. The firm mattress is very comfortable and comes with fresh linen and two pillows per person. A large fitted wardrobe (amoire)with shelves provides adequate storage for clothes and is fronted by a full-length mirror. The ensuite bathroom features a bath with full-sized stand up shower (glass enclosed), a bidet, toilet and a well-lit vanity unit and is supplied with a double set of towels, and heated towel rail and hair dryer.


The guest bedroom features two single beds 35in (90cm) wide, with individual reading lamps and a shared bedside cabinet. The mattresses are firm and comfortable and come with fresh linen and two pillows per person. This bedroom also features a large fitted wardrobe with shelves, which provides adequate storage for clothes and is fronted by a full-length mirror. The guests have the use of a separate bathroom with spacious shower, toilet and bright vanity unit and are supplied with a double set of towels.


The lounge is spacious (188 sq ft), bright and airy with high ceilings and opens onto the terrace (120 sq ft) through fully retracting glazed doors, giving commanding 270 degree views of the renowned Bay. The lounge is comfortably furnished with a leather sofa, a sprung arm chair, a tub armchair, a circular dining table and wicker chairs for four.The terrace is private and not overlooked. It is spacious and south east facing and catches the sun until late afternoon. It is furnished with 4 garden chairs and table, two sun loungers and a Weber gas BBQ and is fitted with a retractable sunshade.


The fully furnished kitchen features a large refrigerator with ice compartment, a quiet dishwasher, a washing machine, a self-cleaning oven, a four ring ceramic hob and a separate microwave. It is supplied with new cooking utensils and place settings for six people. It also features a coffee maker, toaster and a stock of basic cooking needs such as tea coffee,and spices.

About Eamon

Eileen and I live in Ireland, north of Dublin. As we are in our mid sixties, with our family grown-up and semi retired we lead a less stressful life and enjoy hill walking and travel. We visit Villefranche three to four times a year thanks to Ryan Air!!! We have always loved holidaying in France, having taken many 'gite' holidays with the children. We love their food, their life style, the brightness / light of the South of France and particularly the friendliness of the Nicoise.

Why Eamon chose Arrondissement de Nice

In 2005 we were fortunate in buying 'Eclat de Couleur'. We chose this apartment because of its wonderful Sea View Terrace and its location being close to restaurants, shops and bus stops in the Old Town of Villefranche on the Cote d'Azur. It is bright and airy. The terrace is a wonderful sun trap with the enchanting colours of the Bay, the Terracotta of the Old Town roofs against the pine forests of the Cap Ferrat. It has an excellent location being a five minute walk to the shops, restaurants and bus stop and ten minutes to the sandy beach. A bus every fifteen minutes to Nice or Monaco at 1€ per trip gives you excellent opportunities for day trips.

What makes this Apartment unique

The central location of this apartment allows us to holiday without a car, choosing instead public transport for day trips along the coast or inland exploring the valleys of Maritime Provence. Buses are cheap, clean and frequent. The apartment is a great base for day-trips. Popular trips are Monaco, Nice for shopping, art galleries, Promenade des Anglais, the Old Town and Flower Market. Further afield there is St Paul de Vence for art, Cannes and its Croisette, Ventimiglia (Italy) for its market A walk to Villa & Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild for its villa, formal gardens and fountains, not forgetting a coffee and a choice of the best gateaux on the Cote d'Azur is always worthwhile. Being avid hill walkers we love to head off on the bus up to the hills behind Nice, La Turbie or Menton. On Summer evenings another favourite is to grab the swimming gear, pick up a bottle of wine and a pizza and head for the beach and enjoy the setting sun over Mont Albion and the waves lapping the sea shore. During the Winter season we have enjoyed classical concerts and an opera from the varied programs in Nice, Monaco and Cannes.

                                                              My family and I had a lovely time in the French Riviera. Having stayed in Villefranche Sur Mer as a base for 5 days was a wise choice of location. Loved the quaint old town feel with neighborhood butcher, market, and bakery (loved the fresh baguette and croissants in the mornings). There are restaurants and shops galore along the walk to the harbor.

                                                              We explored the nearby towns of Eze, Monaco, Nice, St Tropez. Wished we could have stayed a couple more days to visit Cap St Jean Ferrat, Antibes, and Cannes. Gives us a reason to return for more.

                                                              Staying at Eclat de Coloeur was perfect for our family of 4. The apartment was clean and had the basic amenities. The balcony with a fully retracting sliding doors, gives the living area extra space to enjoy a most stunning view of the bay.

                                                              Sue, the apartment manager, was very welcoming and helpful. She had a bottle of Rose for us to enjoy when we arrived and fresh flowers to brighten the room. The taxi service with Nicolas was also an added welcome service. Convenience was well thought of.                                                               Together with two friends, a couple, I thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Villefranche and the apartment was just perfect for us. Plenty of space inside and the added "room" of the balcony was exceptional. The location is second to none, with easy access to the beautiful walks of Cap Ferrat, the trains running along the coast east and west, and of course to downtown Nice. We enjoyed evenings barbequeing on the spacious balcony, overlooking the water and Villefranche. The apartment was well appointed, clean and comfortable. I am already looking forward to another visit next year (-:

                                                              Home from home - but with better views!

                                                              We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this very comfortable apartment, which was perfect for our family group of four adults. We took advantage of the recommended taxi pick-up from Nice, which was competitively priced and trouble-free since the driver knew exactly where to go and liaised with the local agent, Sue, over our arrival time. We found the property to be extremely comfortable and well-appointed. The highlight of our stay was spending our evenings on that balcony with a bottle - or two - enjoying that magnificent view across the bay of Villefranche. We never bothered to cook in the evenings as there are so many restaurants in the town to choose from and to suit every budget. The apartment is conveniently located within 5 minutes of the bus stops, handy for the 100 bus into Nice or Monaco - very regular service and only 1.5 Euros! No need for a car here! The train station is a little further away, downhill on the way there, but a fairly steep walk back up! The price to be paid in Villefranche for the panoramic views is the hills! Not suitable for the unfit or the infirm but otherwise highly recommended. The wine and flowers on arrival are a lovely touch, and the owners are very easy and straightforward to deal with.                                                               Bright and airy, well-equipped apartment with excellent views of the Bay of Villefranche. Very convenient to walk anywhere in the village.

                                                              This is an excellent location for cycling inland. I would recommend La Roue Libre in Nice for hire of a bicycle. They have an excellent range of bikes to hire. There are some great climbs up into the hills behind Nice, Monte Carlo and Monaco. Once you have climbed to La Turbie (about an hour) there are good climbs up to Peille, Saint Agnes, Gorbio and many other small villages with fabulous views.

                                                              Villefranche-sur-Mer, France

                                                              Villefranche is unique as a village on the French Riviera in that it has not been over-run by apartment development and commercial tourism. Remarkably, it is still an authentic French and Nicoise fishing village of 7,000 residents. Although it is in the heart of the Riviera, with Monaco on one side and Nice on the other, it is still a little village where the same families have lived for centuries and people know each other - it is a little enclave. The site of what is now Villefranche, Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat has been settled since prehistoric times. Celto-ligurian tribes roamed the area and established farming communities on the surrounding hills. The Greeks and later the Romans used the natural harbour as a stop-over en route to the Greek settlements around the Western Mediterranean. It is a strategically important area where the Alps join the Mediterranean separating France from southern Europe. Located on the exclusive Cote d'Azur, Villefranche-sur-Mer is ideally located 10 minutes east of Nice, 10 minutes from Monaco / Monte-Carlo and 30 minutes from Nice-Cote d'Azur Airport. Popular day trips include Monaco for its Casino and Grand Prix, Nice for the Old Town, Promenade des Anglais, shopping and art galleries, Cannes for the glitz, Paul de Vence for art, Ventimiglia for its market, and the old hill-top village of Eze. Centrally located, the apartment is 5 minutes from restaurants, cafes, shops including bakeries, supermarkets, greengrocers, pharmacies, ATM, bus-stop, two car parks and 10 minutes to the beach, train station or l'Institute de Francais The coastal walk around Cap Ferrat is a must as is a visit to Villa Rothschild and Gardens. The hill walks take you into the foothills of the Alp Maratime affording magnificent views of the coast line from Menton to Cannes. For families there is a very popular water and theme park in Antibes. White water rafting is available in the Roya and Var Valleys. Nice, Monaco and Cannes host many musical festivals including Nice Carnaval every February, the Nice Jazz Festival in July, ballet, opera and classical concerts during the winter months and of course the F1 Monaco Grand Prix on the last week-end in May. Golf is available at La Turbie, 10 miles by car.

                                                              The booking deposit is non refundable. Check-in is from 3.00pm to 7.00pm. Check-out is 10.00am, We will be glad to quote for Monaco F1 Grand Prix and Christmas. We require a €350 refundable damage deposit and €120 cleaning fee to be lodged with the manager on collection of the keys. The €350 refundable damage deposit will be refunded in 7 days of guests departure subject to no damage to fixtures and fittings. The manager can book a taxi to meet guests at Nice Airport.
