Casa Escondida is a sustainably built jungle bungalow located one mile from world famous surf at Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica. Casa Escondida has two master suites, a full kitchen, a spacious porch overlooking the back yard, hot water, dining room, living room, utility closet with a washing machine, outside shower, and wireless high speed internet. Both master suites have one double bed, closet and a bathroom with a large shower. The house was designed with large overhangs to provide lots of shade and capture the breeze coming down from the mountains, which keeps the house cool. Casa Escondida sleeps four comfortably and also has two plush air mattresses if you need more space.
Casa Escondida, which means “hidden house” in Spanish, is surrounded by a garden of tropical flowers, citrus trees, papaya trees, pineapple bushes and numerous other exotic tropical plants. Floor to ceiling windows and doors allow you to experience Costa Rica's finest flora and fauna and hear the murmur of the nearby stream. Take a stroll through the ½ acre grounds, and encounter lizards and leaf cutter ants and keep your ears open for the distinctive call of the Scarlet Macaw. While you're walking around take a minute to smell the flowers and take in the wonder of our tropical garden. If you are feeling adventurous, you can walk through the neighboring teak farm and see the 100 meter waterfall that crashes to the pools below throughout much of the year, or take one of our beach cruisers for a ride to the beach. Of course, hanging on the big back porch and enjoying the mountain breeze as you relax is always an option too. After a day at the beach, put your feet up in one of our 3 hammocks and read a book while you sip on a cold cocktail made with fresh tropical fruit. While you're kicking back in the hammock, peer into the tree canopy above and keep your eyes open for the many scarlet macaws, toucans, butterflies, iguanas, monkeys and sloths that make their homes in the treetops. Make sure you head to the beach to watch the amazing sunsets. After a great dinner, step into the backyard and be amazed by the stars overhead and distant sound of waves crashing on the beach.
Playa Hermosa and nearby Jaco is THE definitive surf mecca of the central pacific coast. This area arguably offers the most consistent year-round surf with over 3 ½ miles of steep beaches with excellent exposure to swells from almost any direction.

Beautiful property close to Playa Hermosa.
Our stay at the Casa Escondida was fantastic. The house was very clean, very spacious and had a beautiful backyard garden. The owner was responsive throughout the booking process and followed up with us to make sure we found the house (which we did easily with his great directions). The backyard is beautiful, and maintained by a lot of hard work by the caretaker, Ricardo, who lives in another house onsite. He was very friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed practicing our spanish with him one evening over a glass of wine. Overall, this is a little slice of paradise and a great escape from the busy Jaco. It was quite hot (>90F) while we were there, and there is no AC, but with the windows open and fans on, it was comfortable. However, if you need AC to sleep, this might not be the place for you. We enjoyed several meals at Vida Hermosa on the beach, soaking up the sun at Playa Hermosa, and made the hour drive south to visit Manuel Antonio National Park. A great Costa Rican escape! I highly recommend.
A beautiful home, close to the beach and an amazing caretaker
We absolutely loved our stay in Playa Hermosa. The home was perfect for the 4 of us, it had everything we needed and more. Close to Jaco where you can do some shopping and the beautiful black sand beaches of Playa Hermosa. But the best part was the caretaker Ricardo. He was so great to us, if we needed anything he made sure we were accommodated. Ricardo checked in on us and made us feel safe while staying there. Would definitely recommend staying here. Not only for the home and its location but the hospitality that you won't get anywhere else.
A Slice of Heaven
3 weeks at Casa Escondida and could have stayed another 3 months.
Perfect location to some great beaches, good restaurants and downtown Jaco.
You won't be disappointed. The house was clean and comfortable and well appointed.
Really miss morning coffee listening to the birds and watching the butterflies.
Gorgeous home and grounds
My two friends and I really enjoyed our stay. The home was beautiful and the grounds are perfectly maintained. The house is a nice setup for couples, as both bedrooms are on opposite sides of the house and each have their own bathroom.
There are no condiments except salt and pepper, so be prepared to buy everything if you want to cook (we left olive oil). Also, there was only one bike, and the tires were completely deflated, so don't bank on having any. Lastly, Ricardo was amazing, but he speaks very little English, so you might need to get a little creative.
Overall, lovely stay and the owner/Ricardo were very responsive and helpful.
My husband and I went to Costa Rica for our Honeymoon. We had the pleasure of staying in Casa Escondida for a whole week. I can not say enough wonderful things about this beautiful home. It was exactly as described. We loved how open the house was with all the windows and doors. We stayed here for a week and then decided to travel for another week. I wish we stayed here the whole time instead. We met Ricardo(the caretaker) and spent a lot of time with him. He made our stay such a great experience. He took us to do so many things. We barely understood him and he barely understood us but it didn't matter....we made it work. It was nice to just lay in the hammocks outside with a couple of beers and just watch the Tucans and listen to all the sounds of wildlife all around. My husband and I aren't really in to doing a lot of Touristy stuff and this was the place to just sit back, relax, surf etc.... I highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a home away from home! :)
My friends and I loved our 7 day stay at Casa Escondida. The house was quite spacious and comfortable. We really enjoyed the scenery and quiet atmosphere around the house. Most of our days were spent exploring beaches and parks and doing various tours (white water rafting, kayaking, and ATVing). Thank you for a great trip!
