About Celia Homsher

We bought this wonderful log home as our family get-away, close to home, about 15 years ago. We have so many wonderful family memories with our kids growing up, adventures out on the river (swimming, boating, waterskiing), entertaining friends... Our kids are now grown and we were not using our lovely cabin as much, so we decided to share it with other people so that they can create and enjoy fun memories of vacations as well. If you want a peaceful setting, winter or summer, this is it! Nature surrounds the cabin and is fun to watch from the deck. Bald Eagles and Golden eagles abound Dec-Feb! Deer visit year-round. Fishing is fun in the summer too....or just relax and barbeque on the deck with the fabulous view.

Celia Homsher purchased this house in 2000

Why Celia Homsher chose O'Fallon

We love the cabin because while it is secluded, peaceful, and off the beaten path, it is only 15 minutes to get to grocery stores/shopping/entertainment.

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin, very secluded right on the river. It was really pretty in the fall with the trees! Owners were very accommodating and helpful and check-in was a breeze. Highly recommend if you want to get away from it all, but still want to be close to grocery store, attractions, etc. Bring your own towels if you want to use the hot tub. 2 bath towels are provided in each bathroom but you can't use them outside.

Another Great Weekend at the Cabin

  • 5 of 5

A 3-day weekend trip to the cabin in November has become an annual tradition for us over the past several years. It is a great get-away spot that is close to town but provides a feeling of isolation. It is very peaceful and relaxing. The cabin is always clean and comfortable. For us, it is a perfect place to unwind. We love being there.

Rent it, you'll love it!

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented this cozy cabin for a long weekend when our daughter got married. WE LOVED THIS PLACE! Beautifully decorated, comfortable furnishings and a first class view of the Mississippi. There is so much wildlife to see on the river and grounds; deer, eagles, cranes, turtle families, and we think we heard coyotes, too! My husband also swears he saw flocks of pelicans going by. The first morning we were there, a vintage bi-plane flew right over the river past the house!

Here are a couple of things you should know about the layout that the photos don't tell you:

There are two bathrooms. The one downstairs services the common areas and the bedroom with the two twin beds. The one upstairs is an en-suite to the master. It services the master and the loft with double bunk bed and futon. So, if your party isn't close knit, it might be a little weird having someone come in and out of the bedroom at all hours to use the bathroom. Also, that shower takes a few minutes to heat up.

The water is well water and you'll taste iron in your mouth after awhile, so bring lots of bottled water for drinking and coffee.

There is no wifi and we had sketchy cable. We could only watch a couple of movie channels that showed stuff from the last century (jaws, dirty harry, etc) and a cooking/diy channel. The day we left all the channels popped up. So maybe contact the owner of you don't have cable?

We weren't really bothered by no tv and wifi because we were outside enjoying the river view during the day and watching the stars at night, which is what this cabin is all about, right?

Anyway, I really hope we have an occasion to rent this place again. We miss it already!

Very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a relaxing weekend away for our family. Our twins (2 yrs) loved being on the river. The cabin was dirty for my taste, but I guess that is what happens when someone doesn't live there full time. You have to take your garbage with you or pay the owners $50 to get rid of it for you! I was less than pleased to deal with trash in my car. Overall the house and location are great if you are looking for a quiet getaway. We will stay here again for sure.
