About Audrey and Matt
Our family of six loves to travel, and when we discovered the vacation home option instead of hotels, we knew we wanted a rental property of our own to share with others. We hope our cottages enhance your vacation like so many homes have done for us. We love meeting and talking with people from all over, so please feel free to give us a call!- Audrey and Matt
Audrey and Matt purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Audrey and Matt chose St Charles
We've always loved Old Town St. Charles because of its charm, fun atmosphere, and historic architecture. When we saw this little historic house that had been forgotten and left to deteriorate, we both really wanted to save it and bring it back to life. We love to remodel and are happy to share it now with couples or small families to enjoy St. Charles like we do.
What makes this Cottage unique
You can get a real feel for the heritage of this unique town when you stay at The Riverfront Guest House. The same walls and ceiling beams that that were there when Herman Kuhlmann was making wagon wheels for pioneers in 1830, surround you now for a very cozy and inviting atmosphere. This combined with the Missouri River out the front window and all the shopping and dining you could want out the back, make it a very special place to stay for your vacation.

Stay at Riverfront Guest House in St Charles Missouri May 3rd-5th
Awesome experience from the initial planning to our departure. Lovely guest house right in the middle of all the activity in the historic district of St Charles.. Matt and Audrey made our stay perfect. Will definitely use their services again - 5 star experience and well recommended. Mark and Donna Tyer (Mountain Home Ar)
Cute but a bit cramped
Indeed this guest house is adorable but lacking in counter space and very small bathroom. If there are two adults, strategize and plan bathroom time in shifts because there is not room for more than one person and there is very little space to keep your personal toiletries. The upper loft is cute but best suited for small children. My husband and I did the owners a solid and bought a can of WD40 and sprayed all the hinges on every door, including the shower door as the squekiness was so loud and disturbing. Then my hubby kicked it up a notch and fixed and tightened up the bathroom faucet as it was near the point of falling off. The owners have other guest houses to manage so really think it is the responsibility of house keeping to notify the owners of these things. This particular guest house is right behind the Main Street guest house so if staying at the river front be mindful that your back patio is a walkway to the back entrance to the Main Street house, thus, a little privacy is compromised. All that being said, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely refer others despite some of my comments. They are minor issues in the scheme of things, nevertheless, things that are important as an avid traveler.
Thank you for staying with us and for your comments. We truly hope to make every review a 5 star one and anything less than that is one we want to improve as much as possible. But we also urge our guests to let us know if there is anything needed during their stay . If we do not receive any notification we can not be aware of these minor issues and resolve them. But we will certainly be following up with the squeaky doors and the loose faucet today and thank you for making us aware of those things. As far as the space itself, we have received many positive comments and reviews about how comfortable their stay was and how it suited their families needs perfectly. The building was originally used to make wagon wheels in 1830 (still bears the “Kuhlmann Wagon Shop” above the rear door actually), then as a blacksmith shop in the mid-late 1800’s. We like to preserve that character with every opportunity we could while providing modern amenities an upscale vacation rental needs and feel we have done that well here and given our guests a special stay different than that of a standard home or hotel. The Riverfront Guest House is intended for small families and couples seeking private accommodations in the perfect location. It is priced less or similar to that of an average area hotel but offers more than twice the space of a hotel room and on two different floors, while overlooking the Missouri River and Frontier Park and basically just off old Main Street. We, The Guest House Co., currently offer a total of four homes and soon to be six homes actually, therefore we have plenty of options to serve all desired accommodations. Again, we truly thank you for your stay with us and your comments after your stay! Thank you!
Perfect home base for a St. Louis visit
St. Charles is a charming town and the cottage is the perfect home base for visiting St. Louis with the drive being about 25 minutes to most major sites. St. Charles has many nice shops and restaurants. Of the restaurants we tried, Lewis & Clark and Bradden's were our favorites. Wish we had been able to try more since there were so many good options and many with terrace seating. One note, quite a few places were closed on Monday but that may have been because of the season. It's a nice town to walk the area and the river walk is right outside the door. It was great to have our reserved parking place. The cottage is very nicely stocked with snacks and coffee selection. The bed and bath linens were good quality. I would certainly stay there again and hope I have the opportunity to do that. Audrey and Matt were very good about communicating before the visit and always responded quickly to answer any questions.
The property was the perfect backdrop for our business mastermind weekend.
First time to St. Charles and loved it. The property is located right in the middle of historic St. Charles so walking everywhere was nice. The property was immaculate, parking was ideal, and property owners were easily accessible.
It was so very charming. Wonderful location.
The location and the set up it wonderful for the Saint Charles area.
Great stay with all the amenities
We loved our stay at this cool little Guesthouse. It was comfortable and clean!
Just west of St. Louis you'll find St. Charles, a river city with a unique historical perspective, beautiful sites, friendly people and a pace just a little slower than that of the big city. Founded as Les Petites Cotes (The Little Hills) by French Canadian fur trader Louis Blanchette, Saint Charles, MO grew into a thriving riverfront trading center for a young America.
Thousands passed through on their journeys westward, replenishing supplies before departing into new territory. Saint Charles is a source of historical encounter: the Lewis and Clark Rendezvous, Missouri's First State Capitol, origin of the Boone's Lick Trail and home to Daniel Boone.
The people of St. Charles have labored lovingly to preserve and share its treasured river heritage. As destination for almost one million visitors each year Saint Charles history comes alive to welcome you.
You'll find St. Charles offers a first rate vacation experience with over 150 restaurants to choose from, numerous unique shops, and so many things to do, you may have to come back to try everything.
Experience the charm and beauty of a city that has been welcoming visitors since 1769.
