About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-7)

FABULOUS Muskoka cottage constructed in 2003, accessible via Highway 400#

1 1/2 hour drive north of Toronto. This beautiful cottage is located on a year round road, plowed by the Township in the Winter to make driving an ease. No steep hills or dangerous curves. Parking for 3 cars.

Situated in quiet Barefoot Bay on picturesque Six Mile Lake. This delightfully decorated cottage has much character and exudes warmth and old country charm. Knotty pine throughout, and cathedral ceilings. The kitchen is well equipped for all those great cooks! A large center island with granite counters and muskoka stone facing provides extra space for entertaining or light snacks! A B/I maytag oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, bar fridge and freezer, central vac, complete the kitchen. A 2 piece washroom is also located on the main floor for your convenience. A large rear entry to the cottage with ample space for coats and boots, plus a laundry area with washer/dryer and sink is certainly a handy feature. The ground level also includes a guest/3rd bedroom perfect for family members who do not want to tackle stairs. A sunroom/kids 2nd TV room/game room also features a pull out futon.

Relaxing in the living room you can enjoy natural sunlight all day long (southwest exposure) with panoramic views of the lake and pretty creek which runs parallel to the cottage. The living room is equipped with surround sound, satellite flat screen 46' tv, stereo and plenty of movies for the kids plus some interesting furniture pieces, not to mention many magazines and games.

The huge master bedroom is located on the second floor with beautiful views, cathedral ceiling and dormer. The second bedroom is situated beside the master with 2 twin beds. A spacious 4 piece washroom with separate shower stall and oversized tub is located on the second floor. The second floor overlooks the living and dining area from above.

The lot is level with a sandy beach for small children. Sun all day. Take the paddle boat for a ride around the quiet bay (must be accompanied by an adult with life jackets) - no heavy boat traffic here. A large dock is located beside the beach with room for lawn chairs - OR just simply catch that big fish off the dock. A hammock at the waters edge for that afternoon nap. The screened in porch is ideal for bug season and lower tiered deck offers ample space for entertaining or just enjoying the views - even when its raining or snowing you can stay dry and still experience the outdoors! The deck features a patio set for six - two lawn chairs, four custom wooden muskoka chairs and of course the deck would not be complete without the swinging bench. The kids will also enjoy the trampoline to the rear of the cottage - (for kids use only please).

The property has 268 feet of water frontage. 1.7 acres of mature forest, towering white pines and plenty of muskoka rock. A fire pit is located at the waters edge perfect for evening roasting of the marshmallows. Enjoy the amazing stars and on some occasions the northern lights!

Two outdoor lighting systems - one to light the 2 tiered deck; the other to light the path down to the lake and fire pit area will extend your enjoyment into the evening.

A short walk to basketball courts and tennis courts is just down the road.

The lake offers plenty to do - from visiting the 2 local marinas for sundries, bait, movie rentals and of course ice cream for the kids, - you are located centrally on the lake to access both Marinas. A public boat launch is located across the lake. Six Mile Lake Marina rent boats.

Six Mile Lake is by far one of the prettiest lakes in Muskoka - dotted with islands and white pines as far as the eye can see. Plenty of rocks in the water so watch when you are maneuvering a boat - although they are marked with buoys. The Six Mile Provincial Park is also located at the south end of the lake. Pretty Channel offers a scenic waterfall which if you are adventurous you can ride down on your bottoms - a favorite amongst the locals. Enjoy outstanding boating upon pristine and very scenic waters.

The stream that runs along side the cottage enters from the marsh at the rear of the property - once a large blue heron nesting area. The bay often features white lily pads. We maintain a natural shoreline so you often see Canada geese, loons, herons, small fish, crayfish, frogs and painted turtles.

35 minute drive to ski hills Moonstone and Horseshoe Valley!

The cottage was designed for year round use. A forced air heating system will handle the coldest winter night while the wood burning fireplace may be all you need on those cold evenings. Plenty of wood in the woodshed.

We have many repeat renters - who enjoy the tranquility of the area - Spring and Summer - enjoy swimming, kayaking, boat tours - on Georgian Bay, fishing, golfing on one of the many local courses in the area, free water ski show in Bala each Tuesday evening, exploring Muskoka, hiking along the MacDonald River or many snowmobile trails. Visiting the local Whata Cranberry Growers estate. Shopping in chic Bala and Port Carling. Visiting the famous Big Chute locks entering Georgian Bay. Autumn brings Indian Summer, morning mists, loons calling though the crisp air, fox and beaver plus North America's most spectacular fall colors. Winter offers ice fishing, snow skiing and snowboarding at Moonstone/Mount St. Louis and Horehore Valley Resorts. Snowmobiling with access to thousands of kilometers of groomed snowmobile trails just minutes away from the cottage - all maps provided.

WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! Prefer Email inquiries.

About James Lamont

We built this property in 2001 - a long time dream to own a beautiful rustic cottage in a private setting - we found the ideal lot southwest exposure on a year round round - perfect for our 4 children - especially the little one who was only 3 when we began building. I love to paint to unwind at the cottage so you will see my paintings around the cottage of cottage scenes, wildlife, sunsets and dawn of cottage country. Believe it everyone can paint - I only started painting when when we built the cottage - so hopefully you will get that paintbrush out too and try your hand at it!

We hope you enjoy our little piece of paradise and unwind too with your family!

Beautiful cottage! Loved our time there!

  • 5 of 5

Such a great way to spend New Years! We all had a fabulous time and would definitely do this again. Lots of great details went into building this cottage. Lots of games and movies for the kids and families to play. The beds were super comfortable unlike other places we have been. The kitchen was amazing and had everything you require. So nice to arrive and find that Jim had gone before us and had the wood burning stove going for us and it was so warm and cozy. Thanks for an amazing weekend!!

Thanks to the Lamont's for providing us a home away from home.

We were 3 couples with kids who decided to spend October in muskoka and everyone had an unforgettable experience.

Whether it's a stroll down the lane, friends by the fire or just a lazy afternoon on the porch over looking the lake, this beautiful home has it all.

Note: if your into movies and entertainment then bring your own. For city folk, WiFi is provided but needed to be used sparingly.

We were ok with it as this represented an opportunity to escape the norm.

Perhaps in the future James would consider charging a premium for this service (I know a couple of us would have been happy to pay)

In conclusion, everything as described, pleasure to deal with and deposit refunded very quickly

Hope you enjoy it as much as we did

Best regards

Excellent in all respects-we will be back!

  • 5 of 5

The owner was very accommodating, reasonable and friendly-thanks Jim!. The cottage is beautiful with windows that brought the surrounding nature inside. We rented in the autumn and through every window the colors of fall leaves, which along with the ever changing lake, brought a serenity and beauty that was exquisite. The cottage has everything anyone would need/want for a relaxing fun stay. We will be back!

Best Rental on 6 Mile Lake

  • 5 of 5

Our family returned to this beautiful cottage for the fourth year in a row. We have rented at 3 other locations on very nice lakes and nothing comes close to what this cottage and location has to offer. It is quiet with no road noise and very little boat traffic. The setting is spectacular and the large grassed area leading down to a sandy beach has to be one of the best and safest waterfronts for families on 6 Mile Lake. The tall trees provide shade throughout the day, a welcome relief on hot sunny days. The trampoline offers a nice diversion for those with young children.

We especially enjoyed the screened in Muskoka room in the evenings, away from any bugs, where we could take in the sunsets over Barefoot Bay. The wooden swing that is located inside the Muskoka room is a real bonus. The cottage is clean, the kitchen is well equipped, the beds are comfortable and the open dining area easily seats eight adults. The photos and cottage description in this listing are accurate (we were misled by photos at some of our previous rentals). The internet connection was rock solid. On those occasions when we had reason to contact the owners, we found them to be very attentive and they did their utmost to make our stay as pleasant as possible.

We would recommend this fantastic cottage to families who want to enjoy serene surroundings with wonderful views of the bay and 6 Mile Lake.

Very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

What a piece of paradise! The cottage is perfect. We really enjoyed the screened in porch, especially while it rained. Plenty of room for our family of four. The kids loved the little beach area and catching the small fish which were always right at shore. The lake was so nice and quiet and the cottage is far away from the few boats that were pulling skiers, etc. We'd recommend this cottage for anyone.

Nice cottage, poorly kept

  • 1 of 5

This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. We actually enjoyed our stay quite a bit but would not choose to return here. It was mostly several small things: a torn trampoline the owner wasn't even aware of; the kitchen cupboards stuffed with so many things we couldn't unpack our own groceries, dirty dishes in the cupboards. There was no wine opener that we could find and we ran out of coffee filters after a few days. We were advised there were kids movies but they were mostly on VHS and the VHS player wasn't working. We have rented other places where the owners have made an effort to make it comfortable, stocking up on basics, tidying up, etc and this was disappointing in that regard.

I would have rated this 2 or 3 stars except that 2 weeks after we returned, the owner tried to bill us for our internet usage while were there, something that was an included amenity. We didn't appreciate wasting our time explaining his own policy to him and we waited 3 weeks to get our deposit back after we requested it.

Overall, the cottage and the lake are very nice and what you would expect based on the photos/description. However, if you do choose to rent this place, I would be very specific with the owners about what is working and not working, what exactly is included, and be sure they inspect the place before you arrive so that you are not on the hook for any existing damage.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate that after so many wonderful reviews - we received a poor review - it is difficult to please everyone . To address the issues - the trampoline was torn by the previous renter - a small 2ft tear that my husband has since repaired - we were not aware of the rip has it had just happened the day before - our cleaning crew inspects the property but missed the small tear - which had no effect on the use of the trampoline. The dirty dishes mentioned - were not dirty - we stock black shiny dishes and unfortunately the dishwasher sometimes leaves water marks if the rinse detergent is not topped up. As far as kitchen cabinets full of food - this is untrue - we have a number of empty cabinets for food - we keep a full stocked spice cupboard and drawers with plastic wrap, foil, etc. for our renters use - the necessities - coffee filters are stocked and we did have over 50 in a cabinet that was missed by the renter. We also have a professional wine opener in a box kept on the wine rack - that this renter did not seem to notice. The Television was working and there was an issue with the sound - the previous renters did not have a problem with the TV. The TV was subsequently replaced as soon as we recvd this complaint - again if the TV broke down during this rental it was difficult to rectify. We have 3 televisions on site and the television in question was just used for video games and childrens movies we in the sun room - we have 2 additional TVs for use. We are committed to ensure our renters have a wonderful stay as can be seen by the wonderful past reviews - and renters who have been coming back year and year again prove that it is a wonderful cottage to spend your vacation in Internet use was not an issue again - we received a $300 internet bill for the month - as downloading seemed to be happening - we called the renter to see if he had had problems with the internet as we were unsure who had used so much data. Our phone call was to ensure that this renter had no problems accessing the internet and we have changed our internet plan to ensure good coverage. We try to please our renters - but it is impossible to please everyone - these complaints seemed very minor but
