Entire House: 3 Bedrooms + convertible queen sofa, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)
The owners, Al and Pam Kuck, live in northeastern Wisconsin in the United States. Al is a retired animal geneticist for one of the largest cattle breeding organizations in the country and Pam, also retired was an educational consultant working with school districts and state departments of education around the country. They have three grown daughters, and seven grandchildren who live worlds apart in Wisconsin and Australia. The family tries to gather annually in Roatan for reunions. They have enjoyed boating and water skiing all their lives and especially love the warm weather of the island during Wisconsin winters.

Why Owner chose Orchid Beach Village
The Kucks researched the many Caribbean Islands and found Roatan to be one of the most beautiful. It's lush tropical vegetation, white sand beaches, turquoise blue waters, sweet unaffected towns and pleasant local people made it a natural choice for them to purchase their home. The location of the Pink Orchid within walking distance from West Bay Beach (one of the world's most beautiful beaches) and West End (a diver's paradise) was important to them. There is something in the air on Roatan that makes visits unforgettable and draws one back again and again...perhaps the old-world charm of a time long forgotten when life was slow, lazy, and peaceful was what attracted them to this tropical oasis. The addition of two cruise terminals and two new golf courses promise the island will continue to thrive and prosper. Al & Pam want to share their home when not in use so that you too can experience the lure of this unforgettable island paradise.
What makes this House unique
The Pink Orchid is uniquely situated in the neighborhood and on the island. The neighborhood is expanding, but The Pink Orchid is bordered on one side by a side lot that Al & Pam turned into a lovely garden oasis and on the other side by a natural creek and "green"area filled with coconut palms, banana trees and local flora. Thus the home sits away from the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood yet right on the water, a mini sanctuary in one of the most sought-after parts of the island. Its location is the other unique factor, because the house sits within walking distance the two most popular towns on the island: West End and West Bay Beach. And you can stand on the dock and flag down a water taxi if you don't feel like walking as they pass by all day long every 5-10 minutes. Lastly, because the house is located on the tip that faces westward, the sunsets are exquisite and something you never want to miss each evening. With a drink in hand and a few appetizers nearby, there is no better way to usher in the evening watching the sun sink in all its fiery glory!

Perfect home base in paradise
The Pink Orchid is absolutely perfectly situated on a quiet beach midway between the tourist mecca of West Bay and the more mellow bistros/shopping of West End. We found walking to both easy, although budgeted 20-25 minutes to get to the parts of each we wanted (a little longer than others have estimated). The snorkelling right in front of the house was the most interesting we found in Roatan, with loads of interesting marine life. The deck and hammock are perfect, and the view from inside is also delightful. The house itself is very comfortable, well stocked and well maintained - just what our family of six needed for a relaxing holiday. We enjoyed reading the guest book with recommendations from previous guests, and would say all of them as well as those directly from the owners, were spot on. Thanks to Al and Pam for sharing their island home!
You can tell when owners have lived in their rental. There's the little things that make a big difference: clean sponge in the kitchen, full spice rack, extra blankets, etc. And the wrap around porch with the view! Airport pick up + stop at the grocery store on arrival was included. The Pink Orchid is ideally located about a 10 minute walk to West End and 20 minutes to West Bay. Entry to the water from the dock directly in front of the house is sandy, clear, and about chest high for easy access. You'll want a rental car if you aren't booking activities that include transportation. We do an island trip every year and this house suited the five of us perfectly!
Christmas Dive Trip 2019
Great location away from razzmatazz of West Bay and West End. Easy to walk to both however. Management company and owners communicated well and were a pleasure to work with. They were very attentive to our needs. We never did get the TV to connect to the wifii and with the rainy weather that would have been nice. A very minor detail for us as we enjoyed the diving immensely. We dove with Clearwater Adventures on the owner's recommendation. After the storm it took a while for the nice groundskeeper guy to clean up the beach. Lots of debris has washed up. Also, sadly, the island including this property had a lot of plastic trash around. Here, mainly because of the stormy weather. The litter does leave an impression however. Once the weather cleared we were better able to see the beauty of the property and it's landscaping of tropical plants. This garden work seemed unique to the surrounding area and I hope the owners keep planting. The dock and little beach area were private and we enjoyed morning swims from there ending the swim over the coral heads right off the dock.
another wonderful 2 weeks on the island
As expected, the Orchid was clean, well stocked, and very
functional. The locals that the owners recommended were exceptionally friendly, bilingual, and did everything they could to ensure a pleasant stay.
Checks all boxes!
Beautiful home, fabulous location, nice owners. The house and the beautiful surroundings are just as pictured. We will go back to Roatan and when we do, we first will check to see if this house is open before searching anywhere else
Guests can be picked up on private dock for scuba diving, deep sea fishing, or island excursions. Ziplining is very nearby, just up the road towards West Bay. Ibagari's Luna Muna and Xbalanque's The Lotus restaurants are fabulous beach eateries and less than a quarter-mile walk on the beach. Swimming at West Bay Beach is a must -- calm crystal clear waters and don't forget to order a Monkey La-La, the island's special drink. Snorkeling in our backyard is some of the best on the island. The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef is a mere 200 yards out in front of our home and the largest reef in the northern hemisphere, surpassed only by the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. We have a local dive shop right in the neighborhood, Clearwater Adventures, and Las Rocas on the North end of West Bay Beach which offers a 10% discount to all Pink Orchid guests. West Bay has a brand new golf course opening soon, there's one at Pristine Bay called The Black Pearl and a there's new Lenca Water Park on the road to Flowers Bay. Little French Key in French Harbor is a wonderful day trip to relax on a beautiful private island, swim, snorkel, sunbathe and enjoy delicious food and drinks while gazing at the natural island beauty. Finally, don't miss a visit to the Roatan Rum Factory right at the top of the hill above our neighborhood. Delicious tasting and you can have them mix custom rums from over 57 different flavors. So much to do here that we are just highlighting a few.
