This is a small, clean, modern house next to a classic island home on over 3 acres of private property. The property extends from the road to the beach in a quiet, safe area of Sandy Bay, at Spooky Channel in the Marine Reserve - includes use of the dock.
We recently furnished the house with modern and custom furniture (inside and on the deck), new linens, electronics, dishes, cutlery, kitchen appliances and BBQ.
We, the owners, live on-site in a classic island house and are available to provide information, arrange transportation and activities, borrow cooking ingredients/utensils and assist you any way we can to make your vacation as enjoyable as possible.
We personally pick you up at the airport, take you to the grocery store, then to the guest house. We provide information about the guest house, the area, the island, and answer any questions. We will bring you back to the airport at the end of your vacation and can print any tickets/boarding docs.
You are welcome to the fruit from any of our trees/bushes on-site. We have coconuts (year around), cashews, papayas, mangos, nonis, breadfruit, bananas, plantains, soursop, starfruit, avocados and hot peppers (seasonally).
• Swimming, snorkeling and world class diving is easily accessible on the coral reef right out front, use of the dock included with fresh water shower and covered area.
• We are ideally located 10 minutes from West End, where you’ll find many dive centers, restaurants, beach bars, shopping, and small grocery stores and also 10 minutes from Coxen Hole, the major town on the island.
• Large, screened porch with seating, table, lighting.

• Fully equipped kitchen, modern appliances, filtered water/water cooler
• Washing machine (w/detergent) and clothes line off the deck
• Free internet access on-site and cell phone (phone provided with 20-30 minutes locally and to the US/Canada about the same price). You buy extra, inexpensive minutes.

• 32” flat screen TV with local cable. DVD player and DVD library with about 200 movies, speakers for mp3 hookup, radio.
To enjoy your stay, you must be OK with dogs. We have 2 dogs that are good with guests but do bark when unfamiliar people or dogs come around, but they provide great security.

About Al or Sandra Segarich
Sandra and I have been together 28 years. We retired from hectic careers in Western US and Canada in 2007. We love animals and help local people care for their animals and coordinate veterinary care. Sandra is working on a masters degree in holistic nutrition and I stay busy maintaining the houses, property, and equipment. We both golf and are members at our local PGA course. We love our lives in Roatan and like to share our piece of paradise with guests.
Al or Sandra Segarich purchased this House in 2008
Why Al or Sandra Segarich chose Sandy Bay
We have been certified divers since 1993. We knew we wanted to live in the Caribbean and fell in love with Roatan in 1997. We found our dream property with an old island home on the beach in 2001. It is just our house and the guest house on our 2.5 acres from the road to the beach. No need to walk through other neighborhoods. We recently decided to rent our guest house that was built in 2007, but finished/upgraded in 2011 and now we make minor upgrades to both houses often.
What makes this House unique
The beach is right out your front door. You can quietly relax in a hammock or lounge chairs on our private part of the beach. There is no local access through this property and rarely motor vehicles on the beach here. Snorkel or take the kayak out about 150 yards to Spooky Channel or just swm from the dock out front. Anthony's Key and Roatan Institute of Marine Science is just 1/4 mile away. It's quiet but centrally located within 10 minutes and a dollar and a half taxi ride to both West End or Coxen Hole.

Fantastic location and fantastic hosts.
I'll start by saying that we have stayed at quite a few places through VRBO/Homeaway. Al and Sandra are the best hosts we have come across. They are a great source of information and advice but you hardly know they are next door in their beach home. The guest house is exactly as pictured and the kitchen is better stocked than any rental we have experienced. Sandra picked us up at the airport and took us grocery shopping. That was a much appreciated touch. Sandra even helped us out in the grocery store, letting us know her suggestions and what not to buy because she already had it stocked in the guest house. They encouraged us to pick any fruit from their fruit trees. We even had the pleasure of trying their freshly roasted cashews straight from their trees. Absolutely delicious. It kind of puts you off the cashews we get at home. When they say you can swim to the reef they are not kidding. Every morning we swam to the reef and spent 2-3 hours just exploring. Lots of fish, a few turtles, a couple of harmless nurse sharks just resting in the reef, starfish, lots of conch shells and an abundance of coral. Spooky channel is a spot that tour operators bring divers and snorkelers to. This spot is right out your front door and it costs you nothing. I really can't say enough except that Al and Sandra understand hospitality and you won't find any better in Roatan for the price. We highly recommend you book the guest house and sit back, relax and enjoy the beach and reef.
Low key paradise!
What can we say, Spooky channel guest house was amazing! Sandra and Al were awesome in so many ways, ride to and from airport, stop at grocery store, sharing all their favorite local spots, offering to grab stuff if they were headed into town and so on. The house is well equipped and comfortable, tons of movies to watch and the screened in porch is perfect for morning coffee or listening to the waves in the evening. The beach is great and the reef off the dock is where the boats take tourists to snorkel... can't get much better than that. Oh but it does, the house has snorkel gear and a 2 person kayak. We snorkeled every day and kayaked down to the mangroves one day and to Anthony's key another. Having the equipment at the house saved us money and hassle of having to rent equipment. This house is great for active couples and maybe a small kid or two. There are stairs up to the house and you have a short 2 min walk up the gravel road to catch a cab. The dogs were awesome, very friendly and not a bother at all. Al and Sandra made us feel like we were alone on the property, however they were always available if we needed anything at all. They are a fun couple to share stories and a drink with. This was the most relaxing vacation we have ever been on.
WHAT AN AMAZING STAY!!!
We stayed for 8 nights at Sandra and Al's place and could not have asked for a better place or hosts!! Sandra picked us up at the airport, took us for groceries and to a rum store to get some excellent rum. Al later took me to go get some local beer. The villa was very quaint and comfortable. The bed was comfy, the bathroom more than adequate with a big shower, and the kitchen was very well stocked. The screened in porch was great for evenings as the bugs were not troublesome and it gave some reprieve from wearing bug spray!! The beach was beautiful, it is all your own aside from the local children walking home from school along the beach and horses travelling by with a tour group. The dock out to the reef is beautiful to sit on and watch the sunsets. The sunsets here are some of the best I have seen in the Caribbean. Going above and beyond, Al and Sandra bought us fresh shrimp, fish and steak to grill on our deck. It was such a treat. We almost always dine out for dinner when at VRBOs; as we are on vacation; however, this property is so lovely, we did not want to leave and ended up eating in four out of the eight nights. Just a side note, if you can, bring in Chef Blackie from Roatan Guided Tours, and have her prepare lobster tails and coconut shrimp (she has other choices but these were the best). She comes in and cooks for you, cleans up her mess and leaves you to enjoy your meal. What a special treat that was. The lobster and shrimp were amazing and they provided a huge amount of food that we ended up sharing with Al and Sandra.
The reef out front is spectacular. We saw rays, barracudas, puffer fish, you name it. The dogs were lovey but very lively so if you don't like dogs, this is not the place for you. If they became too friendly, we just put our chairs outside of the electric fence area and they would not pass that line...much to Jack's sadness :( The sand flies can be bad, but we found bug spray along with covering our lounge chairs with towels worked well (the bugs seem to be in the mesh). They also supply plenty of bath and beach towels.
Make sure to go to West End to Sundowners Beach Bar for at least one sunset and have a Monkey Lala. The food is great and the atmosphere lively. Al and Sandra were kind enough to invite us with them to watch a friend play music there one evening and we had a great time. If looking for other great adventures, try Channin Boddin Tours...fantastic. Do not hesitate to rent this beautiful place
My husband and I arrived the 21st and Al was at the airport to meet us. He stopped by the grocery store for us on the way to the house. The grocery store was nice and surprisingly like back home. We then came to the most perfect spot on earth for our week vacation. The rental property is perfect. Perfect size and everything you could possibly need. We spent our days on the dock or in the ocean for the most part enjoying the beautiful weather. Huge puffer fish, manta rays, and many types of fish could be seen right off the dock. Snorkeling paradise out at the reef. Al and Sandra were fantastic, helpful, and so very nice. Al even started up the fire pit out on the beach for us and provided the firewood so we could sit out there as long as we liked. Seriously could not have asked for a better vacation, and we are definitely coming back. I'd recommend this spot to everyone, particularly with the wonderful caretakers on site. Oh and their three dogs are super sweet too. Jack, the puppy, would come to the door to see us every day. Mostly to see if my husband would come out and play. Zoe and Mia were treasures as well. They pups were the cherry on top of one fabulous trip. Come visit this piece of paradise!
Recommend. Perfect for decompress. Sit on deck or beach and just watch the ocean. Snorkel and scuba off the beach/dock. Convenient taxis to shopping and restaurants. Property owner available as needed.
The property is great. Perfect for decompress. It worked for us. Sit on deck or beach and watch the ocean! It is amazing. Snorkeling and diving off the beach. Taxis on main road to all other.
The guest and our classic, island house are the only houses on our private, 2 1/2 acres from road to beach. There are many fruit trees, and plants that you are welcome to. The reef is just 150' and is at the famous Spooky Channel with lots of marine life for divers & snorkelers. This is a quiet area of Sandy Bay. There are several restaurnts/bars within walking distance and many more a short taxi ride away. You don't need a care here as taxi's run on the main road every couple minutes and cost $1.50 per person to West End or Coxen Hole, both about 10 minutes away.
