About Monte and Bonnie

We built our dream home from the ground up in 2006 as a second home with the goal of retiring here. As fate would have it we were able to achieve that goal in 2010. We added a pool and patio area in 2010 to make our guests experience even better. Recently added equestrian facilities which include a large arena with excellent footing, a four stall shed-row barn and a beautiful 50 foot covered round pen complete with full lighting and 16 foot fan. We have the best equestrian facility in the area.

Monte and Bonnie purchased this bungalow in 2006

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great place to stay. If you are a mountain biker this is going to be THE place to stay in the Hurricane area. Monte and Bonnie are excellent hosts as well as fantastic guides. We rode Gooseberry Mesa and several other "locals only" trails that we never would have gotten the opportunity to sample on our own.

Accommodations are perfect for (2) couples or a small family.

Amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

Monte and Bonnie are the perfect hosts. Living area was spacious, clean and had everything needed. The beautiful pool was just what was needed after a long day hiking at Zion. The gas fireplace by the pool was an added bonus on the starry nights. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend!

Overall, a pleasant experience, but with a couple small surprises

  • 4 of 5

We stayed seven nights. The first night we arrived very late at around 11 PM. The property is located in a remote area and there is not much light, so when we arrived, we had difficulty finding our way up the stairs to the entrance door. Once inside we found the place to be a large, open loft style apartment with a modest kitchen, separate bathroom with standing shower and a combined living area/sleeping area. In my head, I had envisioned a separate, closed wall bedroom, but that is not what we actually had. There were two beds and a sofa converter to bed in the loft, but not a separate bedroom. Once we digested this surprise and investigated further, we found the place to be clean, in great condition and decorated just right. There were a couple other small surprises. First is that the house has no cable TV, so because we don’t subscribe to a streaming service like Netflix, we couldn’t use the TV except to watch the DVDs that were provided by the Owner. The TV also received no local channels through the antennae. For us, the TV was barely used during the trip. Lesson learned. Secondly, be aware that there is no dishwasher. We cooked in the kitchen almost every night and so we had to hand wash all the dishes each time. It’s not a big deal unless you’re used to having a dishwasher and don’t eat out much (to save money), like us. Otherwise, our entire stay was pleasant and cozy, like we lived there. The hosts are very kind people and allowed us to pet the horses and walk the grounds like we lived there. They gave us privacy, but then also were accessible when we had questions, so it was just the right amount of interaction. It was really interesting to spend time in a functional compound where horses are stabled and trained. In the mornings, we would watch through our windows as the horses were fed and trained by the hosts. As long as you were aware of the couple minor issues that I mentioned, the place is ample, comfortable and centrally located to explore the beautiful landscape southern Utah. I would stay again, now knowing exactly what to expect. Their place is truly unique as compared to other VRBOs I’ve rented in the past.

Enjoyed

  • 5 of 5

Location great as away from the hustle and bustle, yet very beautiful. Easy drive to Zion. The pool and fire were the highlight of stay, perfect after long day of driving and day of hiking. Have only stayed at one other place where host so close but felt right at home here. Monte and Bonnie helpful. Air mattress was comfortable. I know getting new mattress for one bed but might want to consider updating sofa mattress also. Thank you for sharing your place!!

The best out there!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect base camp for our trip to southern Utah. We visited Bryce, Zion, the Grand Canyon as well as a few local places recommended to us by Monte and Bonnie. They turned out being even better than the national parks with none of the crowds. The hosts were exceptionally helpful and responsive when needed while still giving us maximum privacy. The studio apartment was stocked with everything we could want to use, including little extras like a cooler for our day exploration. Incredibly clean and well maintained. The pool was a refreshing oasis after a long day of hiking. We are already talking about a trip back. This is by far the best accommodations around and the price cant be beat. Take them up on the suggestions for local restaurants and outfitters, they were spot on. The only regret we had was we couldn't stay longer!
