About this property
Peaceful Cozy Cottage in the Vermont Woods
The cottage - or little house, as we like to call it - offers a lived-in rustic feel. Built by local carpenters and artisans, the cottage was constructed from reclaimed materials, including natural wood trim and antique beams. Old-fashioned wide plank pine floors, hand-crafted custom cabinets and a decorative ceiling fan add to its simple charm.
A dining area holds a table to seat four and a comfortable reading nook with vintage recliner. The kitchen features a modern gas stove, toaster, small microwave, coffee maker, dishes, cutlery, and cooking pots, and is kept well-stocked with spices, coffee, and basic cooking supplies. We provide some yummy Vermont treats for our guests to enjoy.
The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed with luxury topper and looks out over a peaceful private wooded yard. The upstairs sleep-in loft has a full-sized futon mattress (without frame) with a faraway view over distant mountains. The bathroom includes a full bath with handheld shower, and essentials.
There is highspeed internet for our guests who prefer not to unplug and plenty of books and fun board games.
The neighborhood has lots of wooded walking trails and a lovely covered bridge. Outdoor recreation nearby includes hiking, biking, kayaking and swimming in Summer, and downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and ice skating in Winter.
The historic Latchis Theater in downtown Brattleboro shows art and feature films, and the Vermont Jazz Center and Stone Church host many concerts. Marlboro Music Festival, The Putney School, and Landmark College are about forty-five minutes away.
With almost no light pollution, on a clear night constellations and the milky way can be seen overhead just outside the cottage, and some of our guests like to bring a telescope or binoculars. Due to family allergies, no pets are present on the property, although you may see local wildlife during your stay including turkeys, deer, and porcupine.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Quant escape and very private. We enjoyed seeing turkey, squirrels, chipmunk, and even a porcupine! Hosts were easy to reach and provided some yummy local jelly. Perfect couples retreat.

About the host
Hosted by Margie
Our family has maintained a home in Guilford for over 50 years. We've also lived in New York, Los Angeles, and Paris, and spent several years "on the road".
Time spent traveling taught us the importance of hospitality, which we aim to offer 100% to all of our guests.
We built our comfortable post and beam house in the '90's to raise our children, and added the cottage in 2012. We enjoy welcoming guests from near and far. If you love a quiet setting and the beauty of the mountains, we think you will like it here!
Why they chose this property
Guilford offers lots of recreational activities in all seasons, including cross country skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, and sledding. There is an ice skating rink in nearby Brattleboro, and Mount Snow ski resort is less than an hour away. Brattleboro is home to a vibrant multicultural arts scene, including the Vermont Jazz Center, Stone Church, the historic Latchis Theater, and many art galleries as well as the Brattleboro Museum and Arts Center. Several craft studios offer open hours to visitors, and there is plenty of fine dining, as well as less formal local eateries. We will provide local recommendation of fun places to explore and visit during your stay.
What makes this property unique
Our location offers the unique opportunity to relax in a peaceful quiet setting, away from the busyness of daily life. We are far enough away from population centers that there is little to no light pollution, allowing for exceptional star gazing on clear nights and sometimes a view of the northern lights. Surrounded by nature, we enjoy regular visits from deer, turkeys, and all manner of wild birds. We have seen bear on a few occasions, and once had a moose live in our yard for a week--none of them will bother humans if you give them their space. If you love nature and enjoy a serene calm environment, we think you will love it here.
