The Pawfect Retreat: Your Pup Stays Free! Peaceful Cabin on the WI River

Sandstone Rustic Retreat is less than 2 miles from downtown Wisconsin Dells. This secluded 6 acre property is nestled on the quiet backwaters of the Wisconsin River. Featuring a 150 ft of spectacular waterfront, 80 ft of dock, and 225 ft of raised walkway through the fern and moss filled sandstone canyon. Our newly remodeled 1 bd cabin is ready for you to reconnect, relax and make lasting memories.

Our property is comprised of 6ac of land on the Wisconsin River...we have a cornfield to the North, a seasonal cabin to our South the river to the East and a road and natural area to the West. We are 1.8mi from downtown Wisconsin Dells. Our property has 4 cabins, perfect for couples and friends to come to the same place and have their own accommodations, a Gathering House (Converted Tavern) social area, that is set up as an intimate and cozy atmosphere (think speakeasy), a 24x24 covered deck and 24x10 patio area. Follow the trail down the hill towards the river and you'll find 225ft of raised walkway through a natural Sandstone canyon that arrives at our private 80ft dock on the riverfront. You'll find excellent walleye, muskie and sturgeon fishing as well as carp and catfish sheep's head and a bounty of other stuff to catch along with scenery that will make you fall in love...
The views from the dock are the crown jewel of the property.

We offer a charcoal grilling station for each cabin and a central grilling location by the Gathering House. We have a fire pit in the space beyond the covered deck and plenty of wood to burn on site.

Our goal is to host couples, small groups of friends, family or coworkers and provide a space to disconnect from technology, connect with each other, share some unique experiences and make amazing memories you and your loved one/s, you're closest friends or coworkers will look back on for years to come. Our stay at Sandstone Rustic Retreat was wonderful. Both Cale and Tanya were extremely accommodating and welcoming. From having a welcome basket for our pup in our room, an amazing coffee/ hot cocoa bar, and chatting with us in the warm and cozy Gathering House. Cale and Tanya do an amazing job at setting themselves apart from other rentals and hotels we have stayed at. It is a little haven nestled in the beautiful pines we would highly recommend this location for anyone looking for a warm, welcoming, and cozy stay in the dells!

We had such a great stay. The cabin was lovely and the property is on the Wisconsin River. I dove right off the dock to swim in the river with my dog! It’s minutes from the Dells and about 15 minutes from Devil’s Lake. But best of all we loved the hosts Cale and Tanya (and their pidgin!). 5/5 stars hands down!

Disconnect-Reconnect

You immediately feel comfortable with the friendly service and the generous hospitality from a nice welcome to the extra touches like a make-up towel, and dog treats with a folded towel on the table for your furry kids. The cabins are so cozy and rustic feeling and very well maintained and clean. If you want to disconnect from your busy life and reconnect I highly recommend staying here! It’s literally a few miles from town but off the beaten path to a beautiful retreat.

Sometimes we don't see things until it's too late...sometimes we correct course just in time and sometimes we make changes and things still don't quite work out...we all work hard these days and often find ourselves "indentured servants" to a business or job we only do because it pays the bills...not because it's rewarding and fulfilling. A combination of the pandemic and a tragedy that struck our family in October of 2021, a lot of the belief systems we were living by were shattered. We reevaluated everything and decided "someday" was gonna be now. When we needed to heal, we were fortunate to have friends who offered us a place to reconnect with each other. We rediscovered what's important. Our closest friends and loved ones and making memories with them. We have an incredible "WHY" that can't even begin to fit in this small space. We want to offer others what we were searching for. Sandstone is an intimate space to gather, laugh, cry, celebrate and LIVE abundantly. One of us will be around the area and on property majority of days available for any questions. We love to meet our guests and help curate an awesome time here in the Dells. We're happy to share our favorite spots, some local history and the best places to experience everything the Dells has to offer aside from the Waterparks!

Why they chose this property

Uber & Lyft frequent the area. Downtown is 1.8mi away and is walking distance for those inclined but we don't recommend walking if you plan to come back after dark. The roads are not lit and walking could be dangerous for pedestrians. Parking downtown typically will cost you something. Certain periods of the year Wisconsin Dells doesn't charge for street parking. Hiking & Recreation Devils Lake is 20min away in Baraboo. Rocky Arbor State park is 2 min from our location. Mirror Lake State Park is 10 min from our location. Shopping: Walmart is a short drive down I90 (7mi) Tanger Outlet mall is a short drive down I90 (8 mi) Coffee & Breakfast: Our favorite, Bella Goose, Dunkin, Starbucks, Denny's and IHOP are 1.5 miles away. Dining: There's so much to take in...here's our favorites: Riverwalk Pub - Log cabin atmosphere and great food. Showboat - Hot Wings & Warm Beer & Loud Music...Dells Historical site. Monks(DOWNTOWN) - You can't do the Dells without getting a Monk Burger High Rock - Classy Downtown spot with a unique menu B-Lux - Milkshakes are incredible and the best cheese curds in town! Summer House (Summer months) Awesome patio overlooking Lake Delton Brat House - Late night eats and great German dishes! Sorentos - Italian fare, favorite spot for an intimate dinner. Ask for the fireplace table! Del-Bar - Famous Wisconsin Supper Club with some awesome Steaks! Ishnala - It's an experience. Plan for an evening and get there early. Bobbers/The Reef - Cool nightclub and restaurant with an Island fair. Live music on Fridays! Jose's - Great spot right up the road with the best Mexican in town. Enjoy the 120oz Margarita with your friends! A bit off the beaten path...J's Pub in Reedsburg. Great Pork Tenderloin, Salmon, Steak and two fireplaces to warm you up. Gas station & Convenience Store is 1 mile away

What makes this property unique

We have 6 acres on the Wisconsin River with river access from our private dock. There are 4 small cabins, a studio cottage and 4 glamping domes on the property. We also have our converted tavern, The Gathering House which is our common area for our guests to congregate and relax. The property may fully be rented out for family reunions, small weddings, company events or any other private gatherings. The best part of our property is that it feels like you are miles away from the hustle and bustle of the busy downtown area, but you truly are less than 2 miles which makes it so very convenient to access any stores, restaurants, and activities that you may need. It's a beautiful, peaceful property that we are blessed to share with our guests!
