Not far from the Tropic of Cancer in the subtropical region of Baja California Sur, Mexico lies tranquility on the East Cape of San Jose Del Cabo. Approximately 20 minutes from the village town of San Jose Del Cabo, many who have once experienced this location of Playa Tortuga (Turtle Beach) return for the fishing off of Gordo Banks and the surfing at Shipwrecks beach. San Jose Del Cabo has a wonderful art district, quaint downtown plaza surrounded by a diverse selection of shopping, restaurants, and Cabo’s first craft brewery Baja Brewing Company.
It is a place where you can gear down and be healed by the warmth of the sand and sun, the walks and views of the Sea of Cortez, and the sight of the night sky - the beauty of the Milky Way, full of stars that appear so close you can touch them. In the early mornings you will see the pangas (boats) venturing out for the catch of the day. And if you are lucky enough to be here on a full moon you can walk the beach at night, lit up by the light of the moon! Or, just clear your mind; turn off your cell phone grab a cold drink and a good book and be. Some of the desert animals you may see on the road are wild horses and burros, cows, goats, and foxes.

My husband and I have been camping in Baja California for many years. We started in Northern Baja and gradually made are way down to Los Cabos where we camped for several years on the property where we built our home two years ago. Many of our friends that have camped with us for so many years now have homes here on the East Cape.
Sitting in my living room I can look out my sliding glass pocket doors to our patio, pool, and see the waves breaking in the Sea of Cortez. Morning fishing boats can be seen making their way out to the Gordo Banks hoping to bring home their catch of the day. It is a great home to feel away from it all and enjoy the elements of the desert and ocean, yet a nice balance being close enough to town to feel one has the best of both worlds!
My family and I spent 10 days at Casa Cuervo over New Year. I can honestly say that the house made the trip. Built recently, there was a tremendous amount of thought and detail that went into the comforts and beauty the house possesses. The majority of the home is indoor/ outdoor living, as it should be there, and it was designed to maximize the views and ease of getting in and out. This is a spare part of the world in terms of creature comforts and that is how we wanted it, but you would never feel that from the luxuries of the home. So you have the best of both worlds. Great towels and bed linens are always an indicator of quality and we were not disappointed.
The kitchen had everything needed to create amazing meals from the fresh fish we caught daily and much more. The Master bedroom and bathroom suite were unrivaled in their beauty. Downstairs there were two further ensuite bedrooms with everything one would need. The ONLY thing to keep in mind is that the separation of the downstairs rooms from the main part of the house would not suit small children who might want to be closer to their parents.
We will most certainly be back to this part of the world as soon as time permits and hopefully we will be fortunate enough to return to Casa Cuervo and add to the amazing memories we made there.
