Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This beautifully decorated log cabin is located on a rural mountaintop and surrounded by forests, laurel thickets, and many varieties of wildlife. Enjoy many outdoors activities such as hiking the Appalachian Trail, exploring the wild horse colonies of Grayson Highlands State Park (called the 'sweetest miles of the AT [Appalachian Trail]' by Backpacker Magazine, August 2007), or taking a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are stocked trout streams and many historical places in the surrounding areas to explore.

The kitchen is well equipped and all linens are provided. Relax on the big wrap around porches as dusk falls or as the sun rises over the crest and enjoy nature at its finest as the turkeys fly over the ridge, or the deer emerge from their resting places in the laurels. Don't forget your camera!

About Dianne Johnston

My sister and I live in two distant cities in North Carolina. We have always been great friends growing up, but owning this house together has made us even closer.

We hope this house will bring your and your family closer together too.

Why Dianne Johnston chose Blue Ridge Highlands

My sister and I inherited this house from my mom and dad not long after they built it.

We have some great family memories of this log cabin retreat, and hope you will soon too!

What makes this house unique

It is wonderful to get away from it all. If you are tired of the hustle and bustle of urban life, this is the place to come to rest and restore your soul. Our guests often tell us it is one of the most refreshing vacations they have ever had. We know it will be the same for you.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your wonderful cabin! We have had a wonderful time visiting Damascus and doing the Virginia Creeper Trail as well as seeing the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! It was nice to come “home” in the evening and unwind, watch TV, play games, and spend quality family time. We also appreciated the responsiveness by you and the property managers with the heat issue the first night. Thank you again for allowing us to stay in your home! We had a great time!

Cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

Excellent weekend. This was a nice secluded spot with plenty of space to spread out for our group. We really appreciated the ability to sleep singles instead of every bed being for couples.

Absolutely Gorgeous!

We absolutely loved our stay at your cabin. It litterally had everything we needed minus the food. Although the driveway is steep, it was well worth the climb. Thank you for an amazing week!

Wow! Beautiful home tucked away, great for relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

The house was beautiful. I especially like the 'lived in' feel the decor puts off. It's so nice to have some single beds to accomadate large groups. Not all groups or families would fit into many other rentals in the area because they use double beds throughout limiting singles. It has many doubles with 4 single options plus 2 couches. The house is fully stocked with plenty of dishes, cookware, utensils, hair dryer, towels, movies and games. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to do it again. Thank you!

Great house with plenty of room! Ha a little issue with A/C but property managers were great and very responsive. Wonderful experience in an amazing mountain home. Felt like home away from home and a comfortable place to all get together! Miss it already!

Delightful location and very comfortable property

  • 5 of 5

Perfect balance between a log cabin in a rural location and a house with all the facilities we needed. We loved the Blue Ridge Mountains and walking sections of the AT. Horse riding with Doug in the mountains was the holiday highlight for those that did it. We would recommend this house to anybody

Excellent property! Very clean. Nice to get away and unplug!

Wonderful weekend with friends. Cool spring weather - we enjoyed the fireplace and woodstove - very cozy. Kitchens were well stocked with all the appliances and tools we needed. We journey to Ripshin Farm down the road - beautiful property listed on the National Register of Historic Properties and enjoyed time running the Grayson Highlands half marathon. Property owner and manager were very responsive through reservation and stay. Highly recommend. Thanks to the owners for making their property available. We hope to return!
