Feel like you’re living in a National Park.
Welcome to the Lodge at Wood Duck Crossing directly on Florida's awe-inspiring Rainbow River.
Nestled in a two-acre grove of pines, cypress and majestic oaks, this recently remodeled and redecorated four bedroom, two bath lodge sits on a gently-sloping knoll overlooking the pristine, spring-fed waters of the Rainbow River, a hidden treasure designated as a Florida Outstanding Waterway and Aquatic Preserve. The original owner selected the property over 40 years ago as among the most picturesque on the Rainbow, offering a sweeping view of the riverfront. Little has changed today.
Acquired by its current owners in 2010, the lodge underwent an extensive transformation in 2011 with continuing upgrades each season since then. Both baths were completely replaced, and the spacious kitchen was redesigned and updated with new appliances. You'll find a large breakfast bar with seating for four, a walk-in pantry, and just about any accessory you'll need to exercise your culinary skills.
The great room together with the adjoining dining area features a vaulted ceiling, new laminate flooring, carpets and furnishings. Both connect through sliding glass doors to a spacious wrap-around outside deck area offering sweeping views of the gently-rolling property down to the riverfront. After sunset you you'll be entertained by 140 channels of DirecTV on a 37” flat screen TV, with an integrated 100-watt stereo system with iPod/iTouch connectivity, plus a DVD/CD player.
The ground floor also features the master suite with an adjoining full bath. Just outside the back door you’ll find a roomy two-car carport flanked by the utility room housing many of your water toys, plus a full-sized Samsung washer & dryer. And just around the corner: your own private, outdoor garden rainshower.
Head upstairs to find three additional bedrooms – each with expansive river views -- plus another full-size bath with a large cultured marble shower. All of the bedrooms offer brand-new, top-of-line Stearns & Foster bedding sets; three feature queens, the other a twin bed with a separate trundle twin.
Be as adventuresome as you like...
Love wilderness and water? Then welcome to paradise. Enjoy kayaking, tubing, paddleboarding, birding, swimming, hiking, snorkeling, diving and exploring … all in your own backyard with all of your gear included! The quaint Dunnellon area also offers amazing fishing opportunities, dozens of world-class golf courses within minutes, several of Florida’s most renowned state parks, and much, much more.
Wildlife abounds -- especially of the non-human variety. At Wood Duck Crossing you’ll not only discover our beloved namesake, but likely a playful family of otters who call the other side of our river home. Turtles, foxes, largemouth bass, and whitetail deer are easily discovered. And then there’s Dixie, our neighbor’s gentle, loveable black Lab. Dixie’s never met anyone she didn’t love.
Or do nothing at all...
Close to everything yet far from the madding crowd, Wood Duck Crossing is the perfect place for respite and retreat. Relax on the oversized deck – or perhaps stretch out and sway in our riverside hammock -- as you watch and listen to the Rainbow River flow gently by. Later settle in to an Adirondack next to a crackling fire in the dockside fire pit just around sunset. Whether you’re an artist, painter, writer, or just a dreamer, the natural beauty of the surroundings are sure to inspire.
No matter what your speed, and whether you stay with us for a long weekend, a week or even a month, we know you will fall in love with Wood Duck Crossing on the peaceful, pristine Rainbow River -- 'Where Life Flows Down.' Aren’t you ready to make your reservation?

About Jack Hebert
We're two busy professionals, with two grown children, a mischevious dog, but unfortunately too little time right now to enjoy the luxury of unwinding on the beautiful Rainbow. That's where you come in!
Jack Hebert purchased this Lodge in 2010
Why Jack Hebert chose Dunnellon
Visiting the Rainbow for over 30 years, we have found each visit more amazing than the last. When this unique property became available, we seized a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own, preserve and share this special place with others who would also come to appreciate its natural beauty. Wood Duck Crossing offers the ultimate get-away experience -- close to everything, yet far removed from the noise, hustle and hectic pace of urban life.
What makes this Lodge unique
Few area vacation rentals offer such a scenic and serene location directly on the crystal-clear Rainbow River. You might find some further down on the Withlacoochee, or others over in Blue Cove, but none of those duplicate the wide-eyed wonder of staying directly on the Rainbow -- especially at this value. Your own private dock is your personal launch pad to over five miles of Florida's most remarkable spring-fed river.

Sports & Adventure Activities
Great place to lay back (in the hammock), read a book (which I did...the history of Dunnellon) paint a picture (which I did....of the wood duck birdhouse), cool off on a hot summer day and celebrate a birthday! Loved every minute of it. We'll be sure to come back.
Nothing like waking up in the morning and walking out to the end of the dock and just jumping right in (age 65!). I can still recall the cool silky feeling of sinking to the bottom and popping back up to the surface. The water is crystal clear and after living around salt water for the past 30 years, the smell and feel of it was amazing! We will have to come back to check out the surrounding area because there was no reason to leave the house, it had everything you could imagine or hope for. Definitely want to come back a million more times and hopefully buy something in the area! In the evening when the tubers stopped, the otters would entertain us with their crazy antics! I thought I lived in paradise in Naples but find I prefer Wood Duck Crossing!
Our friends and family had a wonderful time at Wood Duck Crossing. We enjoyed the peace and quiet. Took the kayaks and tubes on the river almost every day. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us.
Down by the Rainbow River
Came to Wood Duck Crossing for a hopeful week of unwinding, fishing, swimming, birding, floating, boating, enjoying family and friends, reading, photograping, and daydreaming.
Two young girls were tickled to find all the added water toy amenities, most especially the kayak & sup ! A perfect setting and location, the house had everything for the Rainbow River admirer:
- a large beautiful tree shaded waterfront view
- an outdoor fire pit for spooky or silly games
- a convenient dock for the anticipated jump-in
- colorful array of "noodles" for us lax*a*lazy snorkeling guests
- everything necessary for coffee & eggs on the porch
- a nice grill for all those fish we caught ( burgers )
- a covered carport to unpack & repack in cooler temp.
- every bath, kitchen, eye, ear, & sleeping need availed
- AND !! Wi-Fi
We had a most excellent opportunity to find whatever it was each of us needed to have a splendid time.
It was awesome!
My family and I love coming here every year. The place always looks great and every year something new is added. One thing we would love to see next year is ceiling fans or window units in the upstairs bedrooms. It can get warm upstairs so we always pack a box fan to keep the children cool at night. What we love best about this place, is that it's relaxing. The reason you're able to relax is because the homeowners have provided everything you want or need. We are looking forward to next year!!
The house turned out to be all it was advertised. Kayaks, a canoe and a stand-up paddleboard all at your disposal along with lots of inner tubes for floating down the river. Accommodations were good though the upstairs could get a little warm without really blasting the air conditioning. Overall, a great place to stay and we'll be back!
Directly on Florida's famous Rainbow River about two miles downstream from the headsprings, just across from the southernmost point of the State Park -- less than a mile downstream from the KP Hole County Park. We're part of a peaceful, serene residential neighborhood, In respect for our neighbors we observe an ABSOLUTE EIGHT-GUEST LIMIT at all times for those staying and/or visting the property. The property is not avaiblable or suitable for larger groups, wild partying or late night noise.
