Located on a hill top overlooking Lake Trasimeno and the rolling hills covered with olive groves and vineyards, San Savino is a very small village (borgo) in Umbria, (on the edge of Tuscany) 'the green heart of Italy' : everything you will need to enjoy your stay will be found in Magione or San Feliciano, only a 5 minute drive - pharmacies, supermarkets, retail, restaurants ...; there is no commercial activity in the village (no shop, no restaurant).
Every year, the third week of August, the festival of San Savino "Sagra del Gambero e del Pesce del Lago Trasimeno" offers the best of the cuisine of Trasimeno (the specialties of the Lake) and the most engaging shows, attracting hundreds of people every night.

As we are in the centre of Italy, you are less than an hour drive from Perugia, Assisi, Siena, Cortona and many more beautiful towns. With an hour and a half train ride you can enjoy visiting Rome or Florence. Trains run daily. For others not looking to site see, there are many other activities to do. Lake Trasimeno offers beaches, swimming pools, parks, biking, fishing and for golfers Lamborghini Golf Club is a 15 min drive.

My second stay in this lovely apartment. Very well equipped kitchen, where there were also a bottle of wine, olive oil, and fresh fruit waiting for us. Detailed instructions for all things in the apartment. Plenty of linen and towels. The apartment has a beautiful view of the lake, which is also a wonderful place for bird watching.

A great welcome from the owners, Christine and David, to this beautifully restored village house. It has every amenity and a lovey patio/garden area to enjoy lake views and a glass of location vino. The bed s very comfortable and there are plenty of extra towels provided. San Savino is a great location from which to visit Perugia, Assisi, Arezzo, Montepulciano with good restaurants nearby in Passegiagno and Panicale. Can't find anything to fault at all.

Everything was perfect

This is a perfect location and property if you want to wind down and just chill. The property is over four levels, so there are stairs, but every floor has a bathroom and a TV. The place is a credit to the owner, who has thought of everything. Would highly recommend this place, spotlessly clean and very well equipped and thought out property.

Beautiful little Village and Countryside

A wonderful stay on the border or Umbria and Tuscany. Good position within 1hr drive to Siena, Montepulciano etc and within easy reach or the nearby lake for watersports, cycling and loads of options for restaurants at lots of price points. The lake is best swimmable by boat as the lake shore is quite barren and muddy. Depends on your priorities.The house itself is amazing and the back garden one of the best spots for cooking and views we have ever been. Simply stunning inside too with everything you need for a comfortable stay.The hosts are attentive when necessary and have left so much information for local services and town visits, so helpful.

Absolutely Amazing Stay!

The townhouse wasn't missing a thing! We had everything we needed in the kitchen, bathroom, & laundry! David and Christine were the greatest hosts we have had...and we have stayed in a lot of VRBO's! David even provided a ride to the train station for my husband and Christine volunteered to be a translator with an issue we had with our rental car. The place is beautifully decorated, down to the embroidered sheets! We will definitely stay here again if we get back to Italy!

Lovely Place to visit the famous cities in Umbria

We stood in San Savino this April with three kids for a week. It was a wonderful time in David`s house. Everything you need is there.We enjoyed the balconies and the terasse with the beautiful view at the lake.Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, Casteligone del lago and some villages at the lake are just in the near of San Savino and nice to visit. David is a very helpful and friendly host. San Savino is a perfect place to have a good time in Umbria!

This house is amazing.

An absolutely beautiful house. The interior is completely modern. The house is very well appointed. The village is a dream. David is suoer nice and helpful. There are some steep steps if you have mobility issues. Currently you cant really use the lake beaches because the water is too low. We did rent a motor boat which was an excellent way to experience the lake.

We really enjoyed our stay here again. David was so helpful with helping us with our luggage, and we do not pack light. You do need a rental car while staying here, but how fun to drive around the Italian country side. You see so much that you normally wouldn't on the train. The house is very well equipped. We didn't need a thing while we were there. Nice to have the american coffee maker (bring coffee) but also nice to have the stove top espresso maker. Best of both worlds. It did rain almost every day we were there so we were not able to enjoy the patio, but it looked very nice. I recommend this house. We had a great time and slept wonderfully.

We stayed in San Savino in May 2010 and had a fantastic stay. We were greeted by the owners and they showed us through the home and told us about the basics. Very gracious and they speak English very well. It was all very easy to understand. The home is beautifully decorated. There are two full bathrooms and both showers had good water pressure. We spent alot of time on the balconies and garden, one for each floor. The kitchen was very clean and fully stocked with pans, ice trays, etc. You do need to drive to the stores but they are very close. We just got in the habit of picking up things on the way back after sightseeing each day. We also visited Siene and Florence on this trip. There are TVs on each floor (3 of them) with satellite and the internet wireless was easy to hook up. We will for sure return to enjoy again.

Wir können uns nur bedanken für den herzlichen Empfang unseres Vermieters ,das Haus war wie beschrieben es hat an nichts gefehlt wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und können es nur empfehlen. Wir haben tolle Sonnenuntergänge erlebt. Das Haus liegt sehr, günstig man kann viele Ausflüge planen . Arezzo Gubbio Perugia selbst nach Rom war es nicht weit . Und nicht zu vergessen der tolle See direkt vor der Tür . Also vielen Dank nochmal wir kommen gern wieder .

Wonderfully renovated old house. Lovely host, very helpful, very patient. Everything is like it is in the pictures, and very clean. Notes and instructions about everything in the house in Italian, French and English, and suggestions for places to see. Well equipped kitchen, good beds. Extra bed linen, towels and blankets - all very nice and elegant. As promised parking by the house. Good fast internet. A place to come to again.

Das Ferienhaus ist mitten in einem ruhigen Dörfchen gelegen. Man hat hier einen schönen Startpunkt für verschiedene Ausflüge rund um den See oder auch etwas weiter weg. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Restaurants nicht im Ort, aber nicht weit entfernt, ebenso eine Bahnstation in Magione (für Rom oder Florenz den Bahnhof in Chiusi nutzen). Das Ferienhaus ist sauber und sehr gut ausgestattet mit schönem Blick auf den See (und auf Nachbars Dach). Spektakuläre Sonnenuntergänge direkt auf dem Balkon :-) Die Gastgeber sind sehr hilfsbereit und super freundlich.

Great apartment - Nice householder

Our family stayed in Christine and Davids apartment for some days. It is a lovely place with all things you need. Perfect garden for hang outs afternoon and barbecue in the at nights with the view over the Lago Trasimeno. In the villages around there are wine yards, restaurants and interesting historical places. Thank to the AC we could stand the summer heat in Umbria.

Mehr als einzigartig!

Wir haben den leider nur einwöchigen Aufenthalt in diesem wundervollen alten Town house in San Savino mehr als genossen. Die mit viel Liebe ausgestattete und absolut durchdacht konzipierte Unterkunft über drei Etagen (ein riesiges Kompliment an David, der das alles in eigener Regie zustande gebracht hat) bietet allen Komfort, den man sich nur wünschen kann. Durchaus nicht selbstverständlich war zum Beispiel der Empfang mit Wasser, Saft, Wein und einem Obstkorb - herzlichsten Dank noch einmal dafür. Die Küchenausstattung selbst ist mehr als lobenswert (Kaffeemaschine, Wasserkocher, Toaster, Mixer, diverse Reinigungsmittel) - Gewürze, Essig, Öl etc. waren ebenfalls vorhanden. Auch für den Außenbereich sind alle Annehmlichkeiten vorhanden (Stühle und Tische auf jedem Balkon, Liegestühle, Sonnenschirm). Auch wenn San Savino nur ein kleiner Ort ist, liegt er doch sehr zentral, um die verschiedensten größeren Orte in relativ kurzer Zeit zu erreichen. Die Gastgeber haben zusätzlich jede Menge Informationsmaterial zur Verfügung gestellt. Unbeschreiblich sind die spektakulären Sonnenuntergänge bei einem Glas Wein vom oberen Balkon aus! Ganz besonders möchten wir uns bei den Gastgebern, Christine haben wir persönlich kennen gelernt, für den herzlichen Empfang, die überaus netten Gespräche und Tipps bedanken. Diese Unterkunft ist uneingeschränkt empfehlenswert. Dear Christine and David, thanks a lot for that magnificient accomodation we really appriciated. You were the best hosts we ever had, for sure.

Komfortable Erholung

Die Wohnung in San Savino entspricht der Beschreibung. Sie ist komplett ausgestattet mit allem, was man braucht. Vor allem ist sie sehr durchdacht - das beginnt mit den Fliegengittern vor den Fenstern und hört bei ausreichend Steckdosen und Lichtschaltern lange nicht auf. Die Gastgeber Christine und David sind sehr nett. Wissen muss man, dass die Wohnung sich über drei Etagen erstreckt. Wer nicht gerne Treppen steigt, wird eventuell leicht überfordert sein. Wir allerdings können die Wohnung sehr empfehlen. Von außen ist das Haus eher unscheinbar, auch wohnt man in einem etwas verschachtelten Wohnkomplex. Aber die inneren Qualitäten zählen mehr. Dass Umbrien eine Reise wert ist, können wir nur betonen!

A Hidden Gem

Just arrived home after a fabulous 3 week stay in San Savino Townhouse. We found the property spotlessly clean with everything we needed provided by the owners. Christine & David were great hosts and were always available if we needed them. They gave us complete privacy which is always appreciated. The house has 2 terraces and a beautiful little garden overlooking Lake Trasimeno. The weather was sunny and we took full advantage of the sun loungers and outside furniture. Inside the property the bathrooms were very good and furnishing was to a high level. San Savino is a pretty hilltop village and just a short drive to shop and bar. We are are so happy to have found this property.

Italy has a green heart : Umbria : in the center of the peninsula, Umbria is crossed by the Apennines sloping into green valleys (the large Tiber valley that goes down to Rome and the sea); sometimes it opens into a Lake (Trasimeno, Piediluco); beautiful waterfalls (Le Marmore) or clear springs (the Clitunno). Its artistic and medieval towns (Perugia with the Etruscan underground city Rocca Paolina, Cortona, Assisi, Spoleto, Gubbio, Todi....) are at a short distance from one another. Throughout the year every town or borgo has its own festival where you can enjoy simple and genuine dishes prepared in the age-old way with typical local products : cheeses, cold cuts, black truffles, meat, fish, olive oil, wines, mineral waters.
