Luxe Cabin in the Sierra

  • 5 of 5

Three families stayed at Lone Star Lodge in February. The house is perfect -- the decor feels like a cabin, but it is cozy luxury. There was plenty of space for each family to have privacy and comfy beds (and not have to share bathrooms), but it was also easy to nest in together for the evenings and have leisurely mornings: we cooked delicious meals in the well-appointed kitchen and played games for hours around the big dining room table. And when you needed your space, it was nice to be able to curl up in your own room on the surprisingly speedy wifi.

Although it's been a dry winter, we had enough snow to make snowmen, sled down the hill, and enjoy the steamy hot tub with snowflakes on our wine glasses! Jackie left a binder with info about a wonderful farm to table restaurant and nicely stocked market within walking distance, as well as super fun snowplay for the kids about 20 minutes up Hwy 108.

So the house is clearly awesome. The other advantage of Twain Harte is that it is easy to get to but far enough up 108 that you feel like you're up in the Sierra. You don't have to leave work early in order to get up to the mountains for a quick weekend away or take off for the week because the logistics are complicated.... although we decided we definitely could have stayed at Lone Star Lodge for two weeks!

Can't wait to return in the summer!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your glowing review, especially the details you provided which helps other families when making decisions as to what is best for their family. Right after you left we were surprised with about two feet of snow! As of today, ( March 7TH) the roads are clear and there is still plenty of snow for sledding. Up the hill on HWY 108, Dodge Ridge and Leland Snow Park are running at full speed with even more snow. We agree, our location in Twain Harte is perfect. Thanks for taking great care of the Lone Star while you were visiting!

Perfect location; perfect home!

  • 5 of 5

Lone Star Lodge is the perfect get-away! Twain Harte is far enough up Highway 108 that you're up in the Sierras but not so far that you're too car sick by the time you get there to enjoy it. The house feels cozy like a cabin, but it is really nicely decorated and well-appointed. Our group was comprised of three families; we had more than enough space for sleeping, eating, and playing games, and the house is designed so that each family also had privacy. Jackie's binder had info about a great market and restaurant within walking distance, as well as awesome snow play just a half an hour up 108. Our trip was four days; we could have stayed two weeks!

Jackie was the sweetest owner and really made us all feel at home. The house was perfect for our 3 families of 4. We all had our own space and the two living rooms were great. Thanks for a wonderful “snow weekend”.
