Great location, old house.

  • 3 of 5

You can't beat the location of this rental and it's fantastic that it's pet friendly. But the house and amenities are showing their age and lack of upkeep.

Perfect For large families!

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 11 loved being steps away from the beach! We all enjoyed the big back yard with plush grass and plenty of room in the house to fellowship. Some things to bring when you come are your own beach chairs and toys. They had a couple of chairs there. Also it's a charcoal grill. Linens are provided with lots of extra beach towels and bath towels. Bring your washcloths if you use them. Also bring extra paper products. Those were limited on arrival. There is a Keurig coffeemaker as well as a regular coffee maker. Also a nice mixer and blender. Some needed upgrading on pots and pans but they were fine for our limited cooking. They also had an ice cream churn which we used several times. There is a great new large washer and dryer in the garage and a washer and dryer in the upstairs apartment, however, the dryer was not working in the apartment while we were there. Plenty of room to park our three cars with one in the garage. We loved that the beach was private with no big crowds to bother us. We all enjoyed trips into Saint Augustine to the Pirates Museum, Ripleys Believe it or not and the Ripleys Ghost tour. Salt Life Food was a great place to eat as well as Murray Brothers Caddy Shack! If you are traveling there from Jacksonville just be aware that there is a Publix and Walmart just minutes past the house toward St. Augustine. We drove back that evening toward Jacksonville for groceries not knowing the other was so close. We will be coming back to that area again.

Perfect Memorial Day Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Emily's house over the Memorial Day weekend. The house was the perfect setup for us and our teenage boys - everyone had their own space but there was also plenty of "family space". The fenced back yard was great for out dog!

Emily was great to work with! We would definitely stay again!

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

I stayed at this beach house with my wife and two college-age boys for 3 nights right after Christmas. Here are the pros and cons of our experience:

* Great beach location - as you can see from the pictures, you only need to walk down the stairs to be right on the beach and it's a great quiet beach as there are no high-rise condos in the area.

* Great backyard with full view of beach.

* Very functional kitchen, beach stuff in the garage, showers and toilets all worked and AC worked well.

* TV worked well with ESPN included - important for football bowl season this time of the year!

* Very responsive owner and management company. I ended up having to call three times for various questions/issues and each was responded to and resolve as immediately as possible. It is clear to me this owner really cares about satisfying their renters.

* Overall location. We enjoyed staying a bit away from the crowd in St. Augustine but yet being close enough to drive there in 10 minutes. We also really enjoyed the nature preserve located just over a mile up the beach - an expected great time biking on the trails in the WMA.

* Comfortable beds.

* Internet WiFi access worked; albeit slow (see below).

* Access to the garage which is nice for parking bikes or a car as in our case.

* Bicycle lane on A1A which allows riding bikes all the way to St. Augustine (about an 8 mile ride).

* Older home so you should expect some wear and tear. Things were clean - just rough around the edges in a few places relative to what you might find in a new or remodeled home/condo.

* Slow internet and poor cell coverage - neither of which are the owners fault and both of which are manageable. From talking to other locals, it appears this location generally has poor cell coverage (the nature of the island layout relative to cell towers) and I assume the internet connect is the fastest possible (I measured it at just over 1Mbps download speed). Bottom line is I could text and place cell calls when standing in specific areas of the home (I have Verizon service) and the owner does provide a local landline phone.

* Substandard second bathroom. One bathroom is very normal and functional but the other would be considered substandard by most people. For example, I had to sit sideways on the toilet due to lack of clearance (it is very small). But the shower, toilet and sink all work - just extremely tight!

House is great but...

  • 2 of 5

The main issue was communication with the owner. The owner was extremely slow to respond, which added unnecessary stress on travel plans. It took seemingly forever to finalize the contract. Afterwards I didn't receive check-in/lockbox instructions until days prior. Beyond that it took several weeks past the promised date to get my deposit back - which was infuriating.

There is also a 10am check-out time for this listing, which is an unusually early time (even for hotel standards). Owner showed up at 9:30 and waited for us to leave - normally there's a bit of flexibility on check-out time but not this time. We rushed to leave the house and left many items behind in our haste - it was a very strange ordeal.

It's really a shame because the house is gorgeous, loved the yard and the beach. But I cannot recommend to anyone based on the poor standards set by the owners.

Beach Front Get Away

  • 5 of 5

This is a great property on a calmer area of the Atlantic. The house is spacious and very well equipped and we were very thankful pets are allowed. The beds are comfortable, plenty of towels and linen. Our group of 6 adults and one toddler walked all over the deck barefooted without splinters or any problem. The grass yard is great -fenced and safe for dogs and pets. Even a beach umbrella for shade. Two comments -one it was not clear to us the apartment is not accessible from inside the house so anyone staying in the in-law sweet has to go outside and upstairs -a bit of a problem with heavy rain -though one umbrella is provided. Also there were only two small beach chairs so you should bring your own chairs. Very nice home -we would stay again.
