This was probably one of the most relaxing stays we’ve had. The cabin was comfortable, and it was so quiet. The sunset skies were beautiful and the crisp morning with the sunrise hitting the mountain top was so refreshing.

Can’t beat the location. I wanted an isolated place and this was it. There was some trash in the front “yard” that I had to clean up, and the floors left our socks very dirty until we mopped the floor. Minor inconveniences that did not impact our stay. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking to get away.

Geronimo Cabin Timberon

Nice cabin, we arrived in cold weather, 19 degrees, it took a while for the cabin to warm up. Nicely appointed and had just about everything we needed. A little longer than anticipated driving down from Cloudcroft, but we had a beautiful drive back up with frost on the pines the next morning. It was fun meeting the host and locals at the High Country Bar & Grill, good food, friendly people.

great big family getaway

We had 3 of the 6 cabins rented to family. Easy walk to each cabin, easy walk to the event center. Fire pits around the cabins. Swings on the trees. Some cabins have ramps to the doors, others only have stairs. So, if you can't do stairs, be sure which one you rent. Nice decks with grills, chairs and tables. Great for viewing the sunsets.

New Year's stay

Our stay began with a hiccup on the arrival date with the cabin not being completely prepared for us. We notified the host, Don, who quickly responded and corrected the issue. He is a great host who is responsive and really cares about the property. The cabin is in a great location, as it is nice and quiet and great for stargazing. The cabin was exactly as described, and we enjoyed using the fireplace on those cold Timberon nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to go back again. Thank you again, Don!

Hello, I’m Don. I’m a retired firefighter, avid traveler, scuba diver, and host who wants every guest to feel prepared and at ease. I focus on clear communication, accurate details, a comfortable home, and helpful mountain knowledge.

En español: hablo español con fluidez y con gusto ayudo a huéspedes hispanohablantes.

I have traveled widely through Mexico and Central America, ridden motorcycles from Tijuana to Vancouver twice along the Pacific Coast, trekked to Mount Everest Base Camp, and sailed a 40-foot sailboat from San Diego to Hawaii. I have also traveled to Africa to see mountain gorillas, photograph wildlife in the Maasai Mara, and raft the Nile. Scuba diving and lionfish removal are favorite pursuits.

I’m happy to share Geronimo Cabin’s fireplace, covered outdoor spaces, fishing access, and peaceful Sacramento Mountain setting. I give guests privacy and remain reachable through Vrbo for timely help and local recommendations.

Why they chose this property

Timberon is a remote mountain community at about 7,000 feet, surrounded by Lincoln National Forest and about 32 scenic miles from Cloudcroft. This Paradise Valley area is near the nine-hole golf course, stocked fishing lakes and seasonal pool. Guests come for quiet, dark skies, wildlife and forest trails. Groceries, fuel and services are limited, and cell coverage can be weak. Local gravel and dirt roads may have loose rock or washboard; rain, snow and ice can change conditions quickly.

Most guests arrive by car. ATVs, UTVs and side-by-sides are widely used around Timberon and on legal nearby trails. Please follow local rules, stay off private property and drive slowly through the neighborhood. Four-wheel drive and good tires are helpful on gravel and dirt roads, especially during rain, snow or ice. In normal conditions, our housekeepers drive these roads every day in a Honda Civic. Download maps before arrival because cell service and turn-by-turn directions can be unreliable.

You have the entire cabin to yourselves, along with the porch, deck, and yard. There's plenty of parking for your trailer and 4-wheelers. Guests also enjoy Timberon's community amenities: the stocked fishing lake (New Mexico fishing license required — available at Walmart), the nine-hole golf course next door, the community pool in summer, and a public 5,200-foot airstrip. The High Country Lounge and package store is just steps away for a quick bite, a cocktail, or Saturday night karaoke. If you bring a side-by-side, please make sure it has a spark arrestor and is properly licensed for off-road use, and drive responsibly on our community roads.

What makes this property unique

We're just a message away before and during your stay, and happy to share local tips for Timberon and the Sacramento Mountains.

Sleeping layout: a king bedroom, a queen bedroom, and a living-room sofa bed. Features include covered porch, fireplace, fishing access, and shared fire pit and hot tub a short walk away. Supplies and fuel are limited in Timberon, so arrive prepared. REMOTE-STAY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Before booking, please confirm you understand that cellular service and nearby services are limited; access includes unpaved roads; wild animals may be outdoors; and fast-changing mountain weather can temporarily affect power, water, or other utilities. Fast Starlink Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and compatible phones can use Wi-Fi calling. No outside fires or open-flame grilling without prior host permission.
