Nice and clean. It does not sleep 7, which it is advertised. It only sleeps 5. The front door had a locking issue and had to send my kid through a window because property manager or helper didn’t have a key. However they tried to help.
The cabin alone is really nice with all amenities one needs. However, you should be aware of the following:
* The cell service is almost non-existing (saying this instead of completely non-existing because occasionally a text or two may be delivered).
* The wi-fi provided by the host is available only when you get to the cabin and in the cabin the coverage may not be full (i.e., varies from phone to phone and where you are in the cabin).
* Timberon is about 45–50-minute drive from Cloudcroft along nice scenic roads. With wi-fi coverage being poor, I suggest downloading maps before you take the trip. The rod stretch from the main road in Timberon to the cabin is nothing short of horrible so you will risk damaging your car if not extremely careful. My advice is to not take your new or fancy car if you book the cabin.
* We reached the cabin at dark (around 5:30 PM local). No lights in front of the cabin and the code that the owner gave me upon my request three days before the trip did not work. The instructions were also old (referring to two handles when in effect there was only one - a Ring handle with a numeric pad). If it were not for a renter next to our cabin to tell us that we should press the ring (connecting to the owner), as it happened to them too, we would be without means to enter the cabin and nobody to contact since the phone service did not work/does not work in the area. For that alone, the experience deserves one star only!

About the host
Hosted by Don Wiklund
Hello, I’m Don, a retired firefighter, lifelong traveler, and vacation-rental guest who believes great hosting begins with a clean, comfortable home, an accurate listing, and clear, prompt communication.
En español: hablo español con fluidez y con gusto ayudo a huéspedes hispanohablantes.
Travel has taken me throughout Mexico and Central America; twice by motorcycle from Tijuana to Vancouver along the Pacific Coast; to Mount Everest Base Camp; across the Pacific on a 40-foot sailboat from San Diego to Hawaii; and to Africa for mountain-gorilla trekking, a Maasai Mara photo safari, and rafting the Nile. I’m also an avid scuba diver and lionfish slayer.
I especially enjoy sharing Pancho Villa Cabin’s mountain views, fireplace, and easy access to Timberon’s lakes and forest roads. I respect guests’ privacy and remain available through Vrbo for questions or local suggestions.
Why they chose this property
Timberon is a remote mountain community at about 7,000 feet, surrounded by Lincoln National Forest and about 32 scenic miles from Cloudcroft. This Paradise Valley area is near the nine-hole golf course, stocked fishing lakes and seasonal pool. Guests come for quiet, dark skies, wildlife and forest trails. Groceries, fuel and services are limited, and cell coverage can be weak. Local gravel and dirt roads may have loose rock or washboard; rain, snow and ice can change conditions quickly.
Most guests arrive by car. ATVs, UTVs and side-by-sides are widely used around Timberon and on legal nearby trails. Please follow local rules, stay off private property and drive slowly through the neighborhood. Four-wheel drive and good tires are helpful on gravel and dirt roads, especially during rain, snow or ice. In normal conditions, our housekeepers drive these roads every day in a Honda Civic. Download maps before arrival because cell service and turn-by-turn directions can be unreliable.
You have the entire cabin to yourselves, along with the porch, deck, and yard. There's plenty of parking for your trailer and 4-wheelers. Guests also enjoy Timberon's community amenities: the stocked fishing lake (New Mexico fishing license required — available at Walmart), the nine-hole golf course right outside, the community pool in summer, and a public 5,200-foot airstrip. The High Country Lounge and package store is just steps away for a quick bite, a cocktail, or Saturday night karaoke. If you bring a side-by-side, please make sure it has a spark arrestor and is properly licensed for off-road use, and drive responsibly on our community roads.
What makes this property unique
We're just a message away before and during your stay, and happy to share local tips for Timberon and the Sacramento Mountains.
There is no grocery store in Timberon, so we recommend coming prepared with everything you need. We do have a small convenience store with limited items, but it's best to bring all your essentials. Also, make sure you have enough gas for the 32-mile trip from Cloudcroft, as there is no gas station in Timberon. Please note: reaching the cabin requires driving on a dirt road with loose rock — take it slow. Wildlife: we're surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest, so deer, elk, and other wild animals may be seen outdoors around the cabin. Please enjoy them from a distance.
REMOTE-STAY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Before booking, please confirm you understand that cellular service and nearby services are limited; access includes unpaved roads; wild animals may be outdoors; and fast-changing mountain weather can temporarily affect power, water, or other utilities. Fast Starlink Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and compatible phones can use Wi-Fi calling. No outside fires or open-flame grilling without prior host permission.
