Nude sunbathing? If you like. Your sun deck at 'The Pines' is surrounded by sea grape vines for your privacy-but even better: most times you'll find you have the beach entirely to yourself. The Tropic of Cancer beach is one of the Bahamas most pristine, secret treasures, located directly on the Tropic of Cancer. I call it the 'Threshold of the Universe' as it is truly a magical place.

When you have finished sunning and swimming in our crystal clear waters perhaps you would like to have dinner on the balcony. The top floor is vacant when we have guests, so our guests have access to the balcony and their complete privacy on the property. The house is centered on the beach and from the balcony one can see the entire beach and surrounding cays for miles. So pop some champagne and enjoy the view. It doesn't get more romantic than this.

After dinner, relax and watch direct tv on your high def 42' flat screen receiving all premium channels including hbo.. Got kids? Select a dvd for them from the video library which they can watch in one of the queen sized bedrooms. Each queen sized bedroom has it's own private bathroom for everyone's convenience. There is also a 1/2 bath off the living room for your guests. Both bedrooms are located oceanfront so you can be lulled to sleep by the lapping of the waves on the shore.

Not ready for bed? Take your cocktails up to the balcony, or if the moon is shining, to the sun (moon) deck. Sit back and be mesmerized as you are covered in a blanket of stars.

As a courtesy, we provide free internet access, unlimited calls to U.S. and limited local calls, however, these services tend to be unreliable at times (price one pays for living in paradise), so if you absolutely must be in touch with home you may want to make your own arrangements. There are internet cafes in town as well.

Whatever you do-you won't be disappointed at 'The Pines'. Come see where heaven meets earth!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just a short note to thank you for the use of your perfectly located home. We loved it.

For us a holiday has to involve beaches, ideally on an island. We've spent the last 20 years holiday breaks discovering for ourselves the best islands and the best beaches. We began with the Mediterranean and the Balearics (Ibiza, Majorca, Minorca, Sardinia), then progressed to the Greek islands (too many to list!) and finally the Caribbean (ditto!)

Then we found Exuma. We've stayed on Stocking Island and Tar Bay and we thought that was heaven, but the moment we saw The Pines we knew we'd found what we'd been searching for: a comfortable villa just feet away from stunning turquoise water and a white sand beach that's never busy, and often deserted. Bliss.

Come to the "threshold of the universe" on Tropic of Cancer beach for the most relaxing, romantic, wonder filled time of your life. Our beach is unrivaled in it's beauty-and amazingly, you will ofttimes have it entirely to yourself. It is completely safe, and utterly fascinating! Once you stay at The Pines ALL other beaches will pale in comparison. Believe it! We are joined by three other contiguous beaches, so if you're up for a little adventure-you can climb the rocky jetties to the other beaches and then through the jungle path to yet another, secluded beautiful beach. Bring your snorkels-we have a couple of little reefs on the beaches, or you can hire a boat and go deep-sea fishing or take a trip up the Exuma Cays. There are a couple of excellent, scenic restaurants only 10 minutes away so ladies, you won't have to cook every night or drive to town to eat out. Words can't begin to describe the experience! Come on down and check it out!

Fantastic beachfront vacation home

  • 5 of 5

I've wanted to go to Exuma for years, having heard rave reviews of its beaches, above all Tropic of Cancer Beach, so I was excited when I found the Pines in my research and saw the opportunity to actually live on the beach during my Exuma vacation with two other friends. The house is amazing. The balcony affords beautiful views of the beach and a cool spot to remain during the hottest part of the day, but one can sun oneself on the deck below on on the sunchairs by the steps that lead down on the beach. There are two ensuite bedrooms of comfortable size facing the beach with airconditioning and an airconditioner in the living room/dining/kitchen areas, which is open plan. The house is decorated nicely. All appliances worked efficiently and the kitchen is well stocked with kitchenware. There's a flatscreen television with Direct TV. Melanie was easy to contact, provided clear instructions and advice about how to get to the house and how to enjoy our stay, including tour and restuarant tips. She conducted business efficiently and professionally, promptly refunding our safety deposit and thoughtfully arranged a gift of sparkling wine for us in the refrigerator.

I strongly recommend the Pines for a laid back vacation getaway. The property is not in the middle of the main town, George Town, so one has to drive 30 - 40 minutes there. Some may find this a deterrent, but if your main wish is to relax by the beach, outside of what little action one can find in "town", the Pines is perfect. If you want to drink and party in town, the curves of Exumas roads and the largely unlit sections outside of the main settlements may be unsettling for the first time visitor/driver at night--you may not want to drive back and forth in the evening. Luckily, Santana's and some other establishments are close in WilliamsTown (5 -10 minutes ).

The only minor complaints one can have about tThe Pines come with the realities of vacationing in a rural, developing setting: the road leading to the house is VERY bad. drive slow and spare your tires. 2)as night falls, mosquitoes and sandflies (no seeums) emerge. keep the doors closed and keep Off handy. 3)the house is on well water, which can often stink because of sulfur content. 4) power may periodically go for short periods. This is common in Bahamas in the summer, and happened twice while we were there, but it came on quickly.

I'd definitely return and recommend to others.

This is my heaven!

  • 5 of 5

I have been to Great Exuma many times. I always wanted to stay on Tropic of Cancer but was afraid that it might be too secluded! I've never been so wrong in my life. It was absolutely perfect for us. Many days we had "one of the best beaches in the world" all to ourselves!! The house was perfect size, great views from every window, all the appliances worked properly, and it had a flatscreen with all your directv stations. We grilled a few nights which was a nice change and we also visited Santanna's and Tropic Breeze each a few times. The place and location were awesome and my goal is to spend 2 weeks here the next time. My only advice would be to upgrade the bed quality or maybe even add a king to one of the rooms, then it would my new home away from home. Btw... Melanie, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with. She answered all our questions, handled my internet problem immediately, left fresh flowers and also had a bottle of champagne in the fridge. A very classy and professional gesture. I would highly recommend dealing with Melanie and staying at the Pines. I know I'll be back very soon!!

Had a great visit at The Pines over New Year's. This is a great property...far enough away for privacy and peace and close enough for adventure and fun. Make sure to go to Williamstown and visit Chef Anne's for Bahamian cuisine...we ate there almost every day! Thanks for having such a great property!

A Great Bahamian Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I cannot begin to thank Melanie enough for sharing her wonderful place with us. We just got back from 10 fabulous days at The Pines and hours of quiet time on a spectacular beach. Every day we would wake up and look out the window at the beautiful turquoise waters and think how lucky we were. The beach is truly amazing and private. At times, you were the only people on the beach and, at its busiest, you could still count the number of people on one hand. The seaside deck was perfect for evening cocktails, music, reflection and gazing at the stars. The bbq was great for grilling lobster tails bought from the hair salon in Georgetown - highly recommended! And the blender provided us with an endless supply of fresh fruit smoothies. Another must is to take a short trip down the road to Mom's Bakery. We went to the famous Santana's one night for dinner but found it a bit over-rated. We liked Eddie's in Georgetown much better or, frankly, just cooking at home and enjoying one of the best views on the island. The bottle of champagne upon arrival was also a nice touch and very appreciated after a long day of flying. All in all, I would highly recommend The Pines to anyone who is looking for a beautiful, secluded beach and wonderful accommodation. Thanks, Melanie!

Tranquil paradise

  • 5 of 5

2 of us stayed here in May 2012 and had a fantastic, quiet, low-key week in paradise! House and accommodations comfortable and plenty big enough for the two of us (would be ideal for a 2 couple group). Rental includes the bottom floor of a two story home, and guests can access the second story balcony as well as the downstairs deck and beachside deck. Very private and quiet stretch of beach. Worth having a car for at least a portion of the trip so you can go visit sites on the island and try out some of the beachside eateries! Great place, highly recommend and we hope to come back sometime soon!
