When you step through the door at the Casita, you feel the welcoming energy of this sweet place. She was created using architectural principles of sacred geometry. The views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, Kit Carson especially, are breath-giving. The house is set on 2 1/2 acres of land, bordered by National land and serenaded by the soothing sounds of Willow Creek. The Crestone community is shared by a diverse range of spiritual and new age centers, and is also a mecca for alternative, green and sacred architecture. With prolific wildlife and exquisite nature, this is an ideal location for your retreat.

About Merrin Wilding (Stein)
I am the fortunate owner of the Casita Crestone, living in Boulder, Colorado. Drawn to the Casita years ago as a writing/meditation retreat, it was a joy to come into possession of the Casita when our friends were able to let it go. I love sharing this space with the many guests and friends that have had the opportunity to travel here. I hope you get to enjoy it as well!
Merrin Wilding (Stein) purchased this House in 2009
Why Merrin Wilding (Stein) chose Baca Grande
This is fast becoming the choice retreat rental in Crestone; energetically peaceful, well maintained and specially cared for by an owner that loves it as well. Please take the time to read a few of the many positive reviews I am so grateful to have received. This Casita is a little gem.

Exactly as depicted, a lovely place!
Merrin's property is exactly as depicted, which is high praise! The house is open and comfortable, with beautiful views. It was a very pleasant rental to return to after long days hiking and sightseeing. It is as quiet and remote as we expected. Very clean, and tastefully, not fussily, decorated. The kitchen was well stocked with kitchenware. There is no AC, but while we stayed, the nights cooled down to 50 degrees, so keeping windows closed in the heat of the day kept the place cool enough. Merrin was quick to respond to calls. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Erin, thank you so much for your kind review, I really appreciate it! I’m so glad you had a great stay, and hope you return to the Casita. Happy Travels and stay cool!
Fantastic House Inside a Unique Community
Our family of four stayed here during a recent trip to Crestone. The house was clean, cool, comfortable, and artistic. It was conveniently located near the Great Sand Dunes National Park and the town of Crestone. We highly recommend this property!
Thanks so much, Robert, I'm so glad your family enjoyed your stay. Happy Travels!
Perfect Spiritual Getaway
Very lovely decorated casita. Convenient to town. Very warm and spiritual. ❤️
awesome place to stay
my husband and I spent a wonderful week and everything was just as advertised. the views are amazing and everything was so calm. The town was quaint and the people were real friendly. We found an amazing place to eat called grannys kitchen which was in Moffet well worth the drive. We found a small park called willow park that had an awesome creek running thru it.If you are looking for peace and quiet this is the place.
Thanks Delbert. Thanks so much for the great review, I appreciate it! I am so glad you enjoyed the Casita and Willow Creek. Even the sound of it running nearby makes the house feel cooler. I had never heard of Granny's Kitchen, I'll have to check that out next time. I hope to have you as guests again. Happy Travels! Merrin
NICE BUT ISOLATED
We stayed here two nights while visiting the Sand Dunes, were not prepared for how isolated it is, there are only 4 choices to eat out, and 3 of them were closed, ended up waiting almost an hour for 1 pizza, so bring your own food! The house was fine with 2 exceptions, no microwave and the bathtub had a full sized window in it, the nearest house was about 50 yards away so we didn't feel comfortable showering for whoever might be wandering around in the woods, ended up hanging a tarp on outside of window. The living room furniture needs updating, house smelled like incense (the area is very "new agey" but I'm not into that), it was overpriced in my opinion, it was fine for what we needed but I would never return, thanks
Thanks for your feedback, Marybeth, I appreciate it. It is true, Crestone in general attracts people that are interested in more of a remote nature experience, and though there are neighbors fairly close, only seeing the forest and mountains from each window does give that feeling of being away from people. The incense was from the last guest, that is difficult for me to monitor for sure. And, yes, the open window, it is a feature that many love, but understandably not for everyone. I am sorry for any discomfort you may have experienced. I wish you happy travels, wherever they may lead you and your family.
The casita is very comfortable and has everything you need. If you like coffee be sure to bring your favorite with you. The grounds were beautiful as well. A very quiet place to relax and renew
Thanks so much Amy! I hope you all enjoyed the sand dunes. Happy Travels, hope you come again to visit the Casita!
A diverse collection of spiritual temples and centers may be found within a 5 mile radius, Crestone is a mecca for alternate, sacred and green architecture.
