Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8) Quiet Cul De Sac, Child Friendly

Beautiful neighborhood close to town. Short walk to the end of the street for bus pick up to commuter rail station that takes you to Grand Central Station in Manhattan should there be commuters in your family or group. UBER operates here as well.

Neighborhood is two cul de sacs with many younguns', Mature trees with specimen copper beach, Japanese maple and chestnut tree twins.

Bus pick up at the end of our street for Saugatuck, Bedford and Staples school kids during the school year.

This home is in the heart of the beautiful town of Westport, is perfect to kick back and relax. Our home is comfortable with a great flow from indoors to outside. My children were raised here, family gatherings that spill to the great back yard spring, summer and fall. Touch football in all year long (or soccer) on our flat one acre. Outdoor grilling or many nights just looking at the stars and watching the wind in the trees. Summer hear the music from the Levitt Pavillion (or join the fun - its free almost everynight in summer!). Winter snowsled at Winslow Park, Ice Skate at Longshore and it is a must to attend Staples Candlelight Service in December!

KITCHEN: Vintage GE P/7 stove. Electric. Everything you need to cook but it is an older home so kitchen reflects the time. What is fun is the vintage stove (a cool 42' wide), double oven - 1 large, 1 small. Of course all the tools to cook and entertain. Spring, Summer and Fall eat in the Sun Room surrounded by glass. More formal sit down, a black laquer table holds 8 comfortably but can seat 10.

CATERING: There are WONDERFUL take out choices from Collyer Catering and Fresh Market to Stew Leonards and an array of restaurants who deliver. As well as our favorite, traditional charcoal out of doors barbecue. Our new favorite is Craft Butchery in Saugatuck, a part of Westport, just off exit 17. Organic meats.

ONE FLOOR LIVING: 3 bedrooms, both baths, living room, dining room, kitchen all on the same floor. Master bedroom has attached bath. Bathroom in Master is large shower. Large enough to fit a waterproof chair if desired.

Tuned baby grand piano in living room.

Large screen TV in living room.

Dining room with easy seating for 10.

SUNROOM: a small step down with doors from the kitchen, living room and french doors framing the dining room to the sun room to the expansive backyard. The sunroom glass sliders open fully. Wood pellet stove warms this lovely space although it does require filling the pellet feeder.

BACK DECK: Summer time find chaise lounges, table with chairs, sofa all make the back deck a casual fun place to play cards, read or take a nap. Winter is a table top with four chairs. The charcoal grill is out for year round use.

BASEMENT: white and bright spacious laundry room with folding table (s), ironing board and iron....a gaming lounge with tv, game consoles, vintage games and consoles.....nautilus, stairmaster and treadmill for those very energetic.

Books line the walls. From classics, to adventure, bernstein bears, kids classics, teen fantasy, history ....a lifetime of readers selections! Enjoy! And for children who find a title they like and are not finished....consider it a lending library, complete your read and pass it on.....

MAIN FLOOR OF HOME:

Master Bedroom: King: Hardwood Floors, Master Bath has large shower.

Bedroom: Queen Hardwood Floors just outside a shared Bath that is a tub and shower.

Bedrrom: Bunks

Private backyard - backs on 8 undeveloped acres. Wildlife. Coyotes, Red Fox, Red Tail Hawk and many Deer. We have two small dogs that stay on property with our invisible fence. We can provide a small dog collar for the fence if you wish.

Keywords: Private. Mature Exquisite Trees, Private Backyard, Nature, Child Friendly, Cul De Sac Street, Convenient to Downtown yet Private, Neighborhood, Easy NYC Commute or Yale New Haven

About Betsy Royal

I have enjoyed the community immensely. Since moving here for work many years ago my children and I count this as our home. We all dive and travel far and wide for our ocean experiences. Coming home, I love to walk Compo Beach. Year round. We take in the sea, fresh air and then retire to our home for nature at its best. Coyote, Deer including big daddy with a rack, hawk, fox and an array of spring birds to watch.

Betsy Royal purchased this house in 1997

Why Betsy Royal chose Connecticut

Westport is our home port. It has community, the arts, summer sand and sea. We keep a boat here to enjoy the water. Our neighborhood is just amazing, wonderful families and a wide range of young uns'. Even though mine are moving to their next phase, coming home is special because of this community.

What makes this house unique

Fire in the fireplace, two months to spring and summer days follow.. Copper Beach Trees grace our front and side yard. Spectacular specimens. Even our tree people were in awe of their bark and beauty. Two Japanese Maples are counter points to the Copper Beach trees. The natural setting backing on to our property is amazing for an 'in town' home. Our winter brought 23 solidly fed turkeys to our lawn to feast on beech and chestnuts, a beautiful red fox just this morning walked the parameter, blue jays, cardinals and an array of other winged friends are here and much more visible with the trees without foliage.

Walk to town, rest in the private world that is your back yard.....enjoy a change of venue, if just for a moment.

Fantastic Home!

  • 5 of 5

What a great home for our mid-winter Girls Weekend! We gathered from across the Eastern Seaboard for a weekend of chatting, eating and movie watching in celebration of my sister-in-law's pregnancy. We were looking for a home that was very comfortable, close to the metro-north train line and not in the hustle of the city but close to good restaurants and grocery stores. This home was absolutely perfect!

We ate leisurely meals around the dining room table within view and warmth of the wood pellet stove. We hung out for hours in the living room by the fireplace - the sofa and chairs are super comfy. The home is very close (less than two miles) from both a Trader Joes and Fresh Market. This made eating super easy. We also enjoyed a delightful dinner at Le Farm and a wonderful brunch at Terrain.

The owners, Betsy & Dave, were incredibly helpful with everything from directions to restaurant recommendations. They even stopped by when we couldn't figure out the wood stove. THANK YOU!!!
