EASILY the most stunning place we've ever stayed
While the pictures you see on the listing look impressive, you have NO idea how spectacular this place is. We arrived (after flight delays) at about 1am (thanks to Peter and Nicole for perfect directions). We woke up the next morning to the most stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean and Signal Hill across the narrow inlet to St. John's harbor. We had to pinch ourselves to believe this was real. While we were a bit late in the season to see whales and icebergs, our last night the fog and wind rolled in and the foghorn sounded for a while. Gave us chills just listening to it. This is a MUST experience for anyone who enjoys adventure, peaceful views, hiking and exploring new towns like St. Johns. Can't wait to come back!
just INCREDIBLE !!!!
We stayed eight delightful nights, enjoyed every minute and didn't want to leave. The views are wonderful and ever changing. The house has been redone with all modern conveniences but retains its original charm. The kitchen is well equipped, beds are comfy, washer & dryer convenient and did I mention the views !!! It is a very short hop into town or over to Signal Hill or down to Cape Spear or to the beautiful Botanical Garden in St. Johns. But the fact is that we really enjoyed staying put and watching the ships move through the harbor. Peter and Nicole were very responsive from initial inquiry to heading home. We cannot recommend this home more. On the other hand, dont go, we're headed right back!!
We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Mike & Charla,
Thanks so much for the review. We're so glad that you enjoyed your time in Newfoundland and, in particular, your time at the house. We look forward to your next stay!

Best View in Newfoundland
My first reaction was that we were a little isolated from St. John's but after one day I completely changed my mind. St. John's is only a short drive away and the views from the house were spectacular. I don't think there is a place in St. Johns that could offer whale and bird watching on a daily basis. We saw more whales from the deck than we did on the tour boat. The house was extremely comfortable with all the conveniences of home. After touring around during the day I was quite happy to come back to Fort Amherst and watch the boats come in and out of the harbour while we prepared dinner. The house is a short drive away from many popular tourist spots, i.e.: Cape Spear and Signal Hill. I would also highly recommend the Zip Line Adventure in Petty Harbour for the more adventurous types. Our only regret is that we were not able to stay longer.
What an amazing property! A spotless house with an amazing position at the entrance to St. John's Harbour. Just a few minutes from all the great restaurants in St. John's... if you can tear yourself away!
Amazing place to stay
This was one of the main highlights of our two weeks in Newfoundland. Peter and Nicole made our stay so enjoyable. The cottage has everything you might possibly need. The ocean views and the ships entering the Harbour right before our eyes was mesmerizing. The historical value of both the lighthouse and the Fort is worth the stay alone. The city is within a 5 minute drive so we enjoyed St. Johns attractions as well. We will return!
The house is excellent, very clean and very well equipped. Great location, very comfortable for a family or 2 couples. The owners were very attentive also. If you want great views of the ocean, ships and a fully functioning house, this is it.
