We love Crete and the town Agios Ioannis because of the peacefulness. The view from the terrace is magnificent. The south east of Crete is not so touristy as the North of Crete and there is a lot to explore. It is also known as the the most southern area of Europe.
The house is in the middle of a village that was largely abandoned in the 70's. About 20 years ago people started renovating properties in the village, and now there are some really nice holiday homes there. There is a taverna in the village square, also a music café higher up in the village. The village is about 500 meters above sea level, and because of this is generally cooler than the coast. You definitely need a car for this trip! The lanes near the house are very steep, access with wheelchair is difficult.
We recommend doing your shopping before you drive up to the house, there are no shops in the village.
We have 2 wifi's in the house, a Vodafone prepaid router (cards from Vodafone Ierapetra or elsewhere) and a fixed Vodafone router which is glitchy. We recommend using the excellent 4G in the village.
