Little Mermaid - nestled on a tropical hillside with amazing views of the BVI and beach below.
This one bedroom apartment is spacious with a fully equipped, eat in kitchen, a living room with TV, the bedroom has a king sized bed (or twins, if preferred), and a bathroom with a washer and dryer. A private patio with amazing views of the BVI and Long Bay beach below. Located on the ground floor, Little Mermaid also has a carport if you decide to rent a car (recommended).
The Beef Island airport is located across from Long Bay and is quick and easy access
for arrival and departure. Rental cars also available at the airport.
In case you may need additional space, this apartment has a sister home with two bedrooms, one bath, balcony, patios and pool. Mermaid Villa is located right next door!

Amazing views and host

We loved our stay in Jan’s villa. The views were amazing and the place was quiet, well equipped and very clean. The ocean breezes were refreshing and kept us cool all day and night. Jan was an excellent host who even baked us a homemade apple pie! The place was conveniently located close to a beautiful beach and a short drive into Roadtown. We will certainly be returning in the future.

Wonderful large apt. Great view of Long Bay beach . We also enjoyed watching planes come and go. Easy access to Trellis Bay and ferry to Virgin Gorda. Jan is a very welcoming. Didnt miss that there was no AC as fans and breeze kept it very comfortable. Easy walk down to beach for snorkel or lunch/drinks. Very much enjoyed our stay

January 2023 Tortola visit

Jan's place (Little Mermaid) was a wonderful place to stay. We've stayed at many villas in the Caribbean and probably felt the safest at this one. The villa is very peaceful and relaxing after a day at the beach. It is very conveniently located next to the airport and 5 minutes from the nearest grocery store. For a one bed/one bath the property was very spacious. This is one we would definitely choose again.

Great location, great views, safe and relaxing! We stayed in the 1 bedroom below Jan's place. It is a large space with a den, large kitchen, large bedroom and bathroom. We had our own outside table and chairs to relax with a drink after driving around the island all day! Very close to Trellis Bay which has several good restaurants, the "full moon" party, and the ferry to Virgin Gorda, which we did. We much preferred to be on Beef Island away from the crowds! And it was the perfect place to discover all of Tortola! Jan is a dear, and made sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend her place, and we will stay there again if we go back to beautiful Tortola.

Amazing views

The view was amazing!! one of a kind view! We sat on the deck every morning watching the sunrise over the ocean. The area is very safe. Long bay is amazing. Trellis bay is very close easy access to catching the ferry for Virgin Gorda, which was amazing. You will definitely need a car to get around the island. Jan the host is very sweet, always available to answer any questions. Jan replied quickly to all of our messages. We rented the smaller unit and the only down fall to renting the smaller unit is that we didn’t have access to the pool. You can’t beat the price so we didn’t mind too much. We would definitely stay here again with friends and rent both units. If your looking for the best view on the island definitely book with Jan. You will not be disappointed.

Jan is a sweetheart. Apartment was spacious, clean, and you get to have the sun wake you up every morning. The Tradewinds breezes blow constantly, and we never had to use the air conditioner.

Zum Wohlfühlen

Dieses Apartment bietet wirklich viel Platz, sogar das Badezimmer ist großzügig bemessen. Die Einrichtung ist hochwertig, hübsch und sehr liebevoll gestaltet. Die Küche ist perfekt ausgestattet, es fehlt an nichts. Auch ein großer Gas-Grill (Weber) ist vorhanden. Alles sehr sauber. Gute Betten, großer Kleiderschrank, in den man auch längere Kleider hängen kann. Ruhige Atmosphäre. Der Flughafen in der Nähe stört absolut nicht, ist von der hübschen Terrasse eher interessant zu beobachten. Die Long Bay (East) von Beef- Island liegt in fussläufiger Nähe (toll auch für morgendliche Spaziergänge) ist nie überfüllt und bietet stets Schatten. Freundlicher Empfang, im Kühlschrank warteten sogar einige Getränke für uns. Insgesamt ein Ort zum Wohlfühlen. Danke an Jan für Ihre Fürsorge und den guten Anfahrtsplan.

Lovely, spacious and comfortable!

We stayed our first 5 nights on the northwest end of Tortola. Our last 3 nights we had the pleasure of staying at Little Mermaid on Beef Island. Jan is a great hostess. She showed us around and offered us ideas on what to do in the area. The views there are gorgeous! Little Mermaid has a spacious bedroom, bathroom & living room with a fully equipped kitchen. The washer/dryer came in very handy near the end of our trip. There are ceiling fans in the 3 main rooms. The ocean breezes at night through the open windows combined with the ceiling fans, provides a comfortable night's sleep. Long Bay Beach is just below the villa which is different from the Long Bay Beach on northwest Tortola. We absolutely loved this beach. No worries about undertoe or rip tides like so many of the beautiful Tortola beaches. We also enjoyed the snorkeling on Long Bay Beach on Beef Island. And you practically have the entire beach to yourself. Jan's dogs, Whip and Mama accompanied us on the short walk or ride to the beach below. They were the sweetest & friendliest dogs and we adored them. Staying on the east side does have many advantages. The ferry to Virgin Gorda was just 10 minutes away. While waiting for the ferry we ate a wonderful breakfast at Jeremy's Kitchen. From there we caught the 9am ferry. We prearranged ahead of time to rent a car with Mahogany Car Rental. He was waiting for us when we got off the boat. Our 1st night we took a free boat ride to The Last Resort for dinner on Bellamy Cay in Trellis Bay. Our last night we took a free boat ride to Pussers for dinner on Marina Cay. We enjoyed the boat rides, dinners and beautiful views. All of this on little Beef Island just minutes from Little Mermaid. And making our flight was just 10 minutes away - so convenient and easy. I honestly wish we could have stayed longer. Little Mermaid and Beef Island are part of beautiful & friendly community of people. Thank you Jan for your hospitality!

WOW!...... Again

This was our 3rd consecutive 2 week stay with the Little Mermaid. At the risk of being redundant with others, it is an amazing location with a virtually private beach in walking distance and breathtaking views of Long Bay, Sir Francis Drake Channel and Virgin Gorda. It is a 5 minute drive from Beef Island airport (EIS). No ferry ride required from or to St. Thomas. Jan is a consumate proprietor. We'll be back for another week this month before a week of bareboat sailing.

Excellent Stay!!

My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary at The Little Mermaid. We had an amazing time! Jan is a great host and answered every question we had. Whenever we needed something she was very helpful in finding chairs or a cooler or whatever else we asked for. Her place is large and clean. She is very proud that she has upgraded much of her stuff and it shows. The WIFI helped us keep in touch with our kids back home but she was also willing to let us use her phone to call the states if we needed it. The beach is just a 5 minute walk down the road and the best snorkeling we did the whole time we were there! We hit all the beaches we could find and this beach has some of the best coral! Jan has 3 dogs and they loved going to the beach with us and kept us company every morning and evening. It was fun to have them around. The island itself is great and the local people were very willing to help us when we needed help finding the correct road to any number of beaches we went to. You do need a car and careful driving as it is a bit crazy. It was always nice to get back to Beef Island. Trellis Bay is just a 5 minute drive with a few great restaurants. We had our anniversary dinner at The Last Resort after getting off the ferry from Virgin Gorda. Best meal we had as we watched the sunset and talked to the owner Bill. We cooked breakfast every morning and packed a lunch for our daily adventures which saved us lots of money. There is a few nice grocery stores close by so getting food was easy. Jan has satellite TV as we needed to watch the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup. She also has a nice pool that you can use after coming back from the beach. The airport was not really a problem. We recommend anyone looking for a nice quiet place to stay to book with Jan as we had a great time!

Great stay!

Beautiful views! Jan is a great host and tries to do what she can to ensure a good visit. She offered to drive us to the ferry if we wanted to do an overnight on one of the islands so we didn't have to leave our car unattended. Her villa is wonderful, plenty spacious for our family of 3. View is fantastic, you can see Virgin Gorda and several small islands and you look down on a beautiful beach. The deck has comfortable chairs for relaxing and a large table so you can enjoy meals outside. We were a bit concerned about being across from the airport, but you're not that close it wasn't bothersome and was actually fun to watch the planes come and go. There's not a ton of traffic and there's no loud jets. The property doesn't have A/C but we opened the windows at night and being up on a hill we had plenty of breeze so we were very comfortable and it was fun to fall asleep and wake-up to the sound of the ocean. We really enjoyed the location. 2 minutes to Trellis bay where you can catch ferries for island hoping, only a 15 minute ride to Virgin Gorda. Trellis has several good restaurants and a bit of night life if you're looking for that (days at the beach did us in). There's also restaurants and supermarkets in East End only 7 minutes away. Being such a small island you're not far from anything. We drove all over exploring the beaches and were never more than 30-40 minutes from home. Have to say one of the best beaches was right below the villa. Long Bay East. A mile or so stretch of sandy beach that was almost always empty, had a beautiful view had GREAT snorkeling. The other 2 good snorkeling spots was Smugglers Cove and Brewsters. A few other points. Parking is directly next to the villa which hasn't been the case at some other places we've stayed. Big help when you're loading and unloading all your gear for the day. Jan provides plenty of towels and chairs for your beach time. The one thing that would have been nice is a cooler. Although I'm sure if we mentioned it she would have gotten us one. She offered to pick up a few things for breakfast if we didn't have time to shop on our first night. She's great! This was our first trip to Tortola and we'll certainly be back and when we do we'll stay with Jan again.

Wonderful experience

My wife and I stayed at Little Mermaid for 4 days prior to sailing on a catamaran for a week. This wonderful peaceful setting enabled us to get over jet lag and prepare for our sailing trip. Jan was fantastic - helped us with all our needs and brought in groceries for our arrival. We wanted to stay after sailing for another 4 days but Little Mermaid was fully booked. Jan found us somewhere else for our next stay. We should have been braver on the internet and booked both periods! The accommodation is excellent and spacious - and Jan showed us round her other properties - book any of them, you will not be disappointed! We hired a car which I recommend for shopping, restaurants and sightseeing but the local beach is superb and an easy walk.

Peaceful Setting

Jan's Little Mermaid was perfect for our family vacation filled with sun, sand and snorkeling. The setting on the mountain was quiet and peaceful and the views breathtaking by sunlight and moonlight. The walk to the private beach was beautiful and snorkeling was very good with mostly calm waters. Although we did not rent a car, car rental is probably the best option for this location. We also enjoyed our ferry ride to Virgin Gorda to snorkel The Baths. Jan was very attentive to our questions and provides over and above for her guests. In addition to the beautiful setting, views of the neighboring islands are spectacular when en route to and from Tortola. All in all, Little Mermaid was a wonderful place to stay!

Lovely Return

We were happy to return to the Mermaids, and have enjoyed ourselves even more. The first visit, two years ago, was spent in Mermaid Villa, and this year we were in the "Little Mermaid'. Both rentals are beautiful, comfortable and have everything you could need for a wonderful stay. The views are incredible and the soft winds kept us cool. Such a great way to enjoy Paradise, surrounded by flowers and peace! Although the owner, Jan, was on vacation for part of our stay, her 'house-sitters', Mark and Maggie, were always available for advice and company, and have become new additions to our list of Beef Island friends. Jan's return dinner, together with other guests, is a fine memory of the friendliness of this beautiful island. We can't wait to go back!

Amazing!

We cannot thank Jan enough for the amazing hospitality. The place was amazing, spacious and well stocked with everything we needed. The view was the most relaxing and wonderful. The beach was basically ours for the 5 days we were there. I would joke that it was crowded when we saw 2 people on it. I would recommend a car because the island is an amazing place to explore.

Month long stay was exceptional

My wife and I wanted to "live" on Tortola for a month in March so we looked for a place that was quiet, spacious, and well equipped to live in for awhile. We found all this and more at Little Mermaid. The unit is well laid out with a very open design. Inside Little Mermaid was very clean and had all of the amenities of home. A great porch area looks out over our favorite beach on Tortola, Long Bay beach. The beach is within easy walking distance of Little Mermaid and most of the time we had it to ourselves. We used the ATM located at the airport which was convenient. A grocery store about a mile or so away had all of the groceries that we needed. Trellis Bay is less than a mile away and is home to some good cafes, beach bars and ferry terminal for trips to Virgin Gorda. The owner, Jan, lives above Little Mermaid and was incredibly gracious and helpful as we found our way around. She takes very good care of the property and is attentive to her guests but was very respectful of our privacy. Jan has lived on Tortola for 40 years and is a great source of information for visitors. I highly recommend this property - clean, spacious, quiet, and very well located. Our month long stay seemed like it flew by. We're ready to go back!

Fussy Vermonters found a Great View, Privacy, and a Convenient Location

Jan’s ‘Little Mermaid Cottage’ is THE place to stay for a tropical paradise vacation. We are a retired couple who stayed here for a week in January, 2014, and would come here again in a heartbeat. The property description is accurate on all points, and the photos give a true representation of the cottage…inside and out, it really is this beautiful!! It is very conveniently located: close to plenty of good restaurants, a well-stocked grocery store, ferry service to other islands, and barely 5 minutes from a nearly deserted, beautiful white sand beach (Long Beach), good for swimming and snorkeling. A bigger town is just 20-30 minutes away in Road Town, but once you get here, you probably won't want to go back there! The spacious cottage is nicely and comfortably furnished, with plenty of room to make yourself right at home. All equipment, appliances, etc, including wifi, worked well will no issues, and the entire cottage was very clean and comfy. The kitchen is large and very well equipped with everything you need to cook your own meals, (although with the good restaurants nearby, you may not want to cook every night!). The bed is quite comfortable, and the large bathroom is spotless. Maybe the best feature of this cottage is the patio/veranda, where you can enjoy the flowers and soak up the sun and tropical breezes day or night, and never be too hot or too cold. The views are spectacular. You can see a number of other islands, watch sailboats and yachts cruising through, and watch the small planes at the Beef Island Airport. (This is a small and relatively quiet airport, by the way, and we did not find it overly noisy or bothersome in any way; instead, we enjoyed watching the activity there.) You won’t find a friendlier or more helpful host than Jan. She’s lived here many years and knows everything there is worth knowing about the area and its people. We highly recommend this cottage; you won’t be disappointed. Jan has thought of everything.

Great value getaway, conveniently located

Jan, my hostess, could not have been more accommodating - she booked me in at late notice, put me up in her spare room for the one extra night resulting from my early arrival, fed me, and generally could not do enough to help. The property looks east over the airport, which is not busy enough to be a disturbance - meaning you get to see the sunrise, and have wonderful morning sun. In the heat of the day and in the afternoons the property is perfectly cool, with refreshing tradewinds. For afternoon sun I went to the beach below the property - 1 minute by car, 5 minutes or so by foot. The beach at long bay provides sheltered swimming, a 1/2 mile stretch to run on the beach, and rarely has more than a few locals at weekends, deserted during the week. The shops and restaurants of East End are just 5 minutes away by car (Red Rock is excellent), and Road Town, the small but bustling capital, is just 20 minutes away. The property itself is spacious, clean and comfortable - a very large and well-equipped kitchen, comfy sitting area with cable TV, and a large bedroom and bathroom. The washer and dryer, combined with the discretely-located outdoor clothes line, make for easy facilities also. Overall a perfect spot for an uncomplicated holiday, great value, super-friendly hostess, and well-connected to the airport and the rest of Tortola.

This rental was Paradise, from the peaceful surroundings to the incredible vista from the verandah. Our accommodations were perfect, large bedroom, well supplied kitchen, and the sound of the ocean. No need to travel too far the beach is a 7 minute walk, 5 minutes by car, and Trellis Bay in 7 minutes by car. Jan is very sweet and very helpful in all your needs. Thanks Jan for a great stay,we loved it.

My Name is Janet Dart and I have owned and operated this property as my home as well as vacation rentals for many years. I have lived in the BVI for almost 55 years. My years in the BVI have been wonderful and I have made so many friends along the way. I am originally from Western New York but I have loved living here all these years.

Why they chose this property

My husband and I built Mermaid Villa in the early 1970's. At the time we were the only home built on Little Mountain, Beef Island. My husband was a recreational pilot and we had a helicopter so being near the airport was very convenient for us and the daily airshow never gets old. We now have several neighbors but all of the homes are very private. When I became a widow, I decided to start a vacation rental business. The view is one of the best in the BVI. You can see all of the islands located on the East and South side of Tortola and Beef Island. It was our little piece of paradise and I am grateful I can now share it with others.

What makes this property unique

The beach below is beautiful, either for swimming, snorkeling or walking. There is now a small beach bar and restaurant on the beach so a great place to grab lunch! Beyond the bay is the Beef Island airport making it very convenient for arrivals and departures as well as picking up and dropping off a rental car.
The beautiful islands in the distance with boats sailing along the Sir Francis Drake Channel is a view you will never forget. We are also convenient to restaurants and grocery stores.
