About the host
Hosted by Kevin Travis
Raised in Texas, I fell in love with Vermont as a child the first time my family came to visit, escaping the heat of a Houston summer. In the beginning, I came to visit family friends, and returned as a summer camper. I bought my first house here in 2001, and have been coming here ever since.
Over the decades, my own friends and family stayed in the Cobble House and I used it for work offsite seminars. When the opportunity came, I wanted to be the next steward of the Cobble House, making sure the house lived on.
I have lived and worked in many cities, including Boston, London, Johannesburg, and most recently New York City, before settling full time in Vermont. I've restored the Cobble House with a 21st century update, influenced by my international experience with the express purpose of sharing it and the best of Vermont with guests like you.

Why they chose this property
Family friends owned a 1791 house nearby, and when they moved, we bought it. Gaysville is a beautiful, peaceful escape from the wilds of the city living, with acres of my own to explore and a river running through it. Yet, in 20 minutes, I can be in town, on a ski slope, or at one of my favorite local farmer’s markets. There are plentiful outdoor activities in all seasons and there is also a vibrant arts and culture scene. For someone who no longer wants the city life, but wants the amenities and then to retreat, it’s perfect.
What makes this property unique
Built in 1864 as a formal country house for a prominent doctor, when Abraham Lincoln was president, the Cobble House has retained almost all it’s period details. In its restoration, we have been careful to keep the integrity of it's original architecture and details. With soaring ceilings, floor to ceiling windows letting light and nature in, and both large, open and small, intimate spaces to enjoy, we have brought in modern European design sensibility and all the updates necessary for maximum comfort. It’s easy for 10 people to gather, or find their own, quiet places. With 7.5 acres of land, walking trails, and 300 feet of riverfront, it is like yours to enjoy like a private resort.
