Majestic View on the Amalfi Coast

  • 4 of 5

House Oliver has much to offer. The most spectacular aspect is the view of the sea. It's really beyond description. And the terrace is lovely and a perfect place to enjoy this beautiful scenery. The house itself is very nice, with 2 large bedrooms and a cozy sitting room (with a piano!). The daily cleaning is really great and not typical in a house rental. The kitchen is in one of the bedrooms which is odd, but fine, and while it is compact, it is well-stocked. In fact, Oliver and Lella stock the fridge and kitchen really generously for your use. There is wine available for purchase and while not expensive (12 Eur), we found the same wine at a grocery for less than half the price. Other really nice touches include beach towels and totes, a safe, air-conditioning and binoculars. The house is very nicely decorated, and just a great place to stay. There are many steps from the street to the house, so thankfully Oliver (and a driver he works with) are very gracious in helping with luggage. The location is kind of a mixed blessing. It's nice to be out of the city itself (I mean again, that view!) but we found it challenging (or expensive) to get places. The bus stop is indeed very close but unfortunately, we were never able to actually use it to go from the house because it didn't come often and when it did, it was full and just passed us by. That was frustrating. We did take the bus back from Amalfi and Ravello but that wasn't a great experience either. The walk to Amalfi is a good 30 minutes at least, so that's ok, but because you are walking on the winding road with cars, it's a bit to get used to. We loved walking to and from Atrani though (about 15 minutes) and the Mistral restaurant there (recommended by Oliver) was our favorite. We ended up using the car service Oliver recommended to get to Ravello, Maiori, Minori and Paestum. The car service was great, and comparably reasonably priced, but still expensive, so it would have been nice to have some less expensive realistic options. Overall, a really great experience and a really nice place to stay for our family.

Go...you'll love it!

  • 5 of 5

We loved every minute of our fabulous stay at House Oliver. Oliver welcomed us with open arms and enjoyed a wonderful glass of prosecco with us on the balcony, overlooking the million dollar view! It really is a fabulous view and we spent many hours just staring out to the sea, whether over a cup of coffee at breakfast or drinks in the evening…you will just love it. Oliver helped us with any questions and was always really quick to respond. We only met Lella, Oliver’s wife once, but she was very lovely.

We walked everywhere and although transport is available, the Amalfi Coast requires you to do a fair bit of walking, so you will definitely get fit, if you’re not already.

Oliver and Lella provided some provisions for breakfast and some home grown basil from the garden, which was so fresh and flavourful. We must also mention the lovely cleaning lady who we bumped into a couple of times, who was also very sweet and friendly and keeps the villa extremely clean. You really do get a sense of family when you are there and nothing is too much trouble. We were recommended a great little spot at the beach and frequently sat right at the front of the seaside…go, you’ll love it. Christine & Leon

Wow!

  • 5 of 5

Although we had a good idea of what to expect from reading numerous VRBO reviews, upon our arrival at "house Oliver" we were more than pleasantly surprised. Walking up the few steps to the house we were taken back by the sheer beauty of the views. Their were gorgeous views that stretched from Minori on the left to shimmering blue waters on the right. Breathtaking! Entering the house, we set eyes on a tastefully furnished apartment with three levels, all spotlessly clean. The kitchen was well stocked and we shared a glass of Prosecca while Oliver shared his ideas for places to eat and things to do. It was a great first day.

Beautiful and quite functional, the home was tastefully furnished. The kitchen, modern and clean is actually co-located with the upstairs master suite. Don’t ask me how they pulled this off but it fits perfectly and works very well when transporting coffee from the kitchen to the porch for an early morning viewing of the sunrise.

One must keep in mind that Amalfi Drive is RIGHT beneath the gate to House Oliver. Each time you leave you must proceed with some caution. Walking along the Amalfi Drive can be daunting at first but after a few days you will likely find it fun, interesting and great exercise. We did.

The view! You must see it to believe it. Enough said.

Now for what makes the visit a truly pleasurable experience: Oliver and his wife Lele (sp). They sparkle with enthusiasm for their beautiful home. They are proud of their country and the wonderful area they call home and rightfully so. Gracious, friendly and helpful they were available when we needed them and went quietly about their business when we didn’t. Indeed, it was because of this exuberance that we took him up on his “Boat Ride”. An experience for the ages. Seeing the Amalfi Coastline from the water was worth every penny. Oliver showed us sights we would never have seen on our own then took a slow cruise to a restaurant where my wife and I shared “Jackie’s Favorite” pasta. We swam twice and thoroughly enjoyed the day. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

During our stay we had but few moments to talk with Lele. We would have loved more time with her.

I give House Oliver every bit of five stars in my rating. They work hard to earn that rating and all their efforts translate into a vacation experience that you will never forget.

PS: If you need a driver, ask for Claudio. He is something special!

Boutique hotel feel in a bucket list location

  • 5 of 5

We agree with all of the previous reviews. To provide context for our stay, this was our first trip to Italy and we stayed 4 days in Rome, Amalfi, Corona and Florence in late April. And we stayed at VRBOs in all but Florence. So our first recommendation for those of you travelling is to stay at a VRBO they are all different but you will gain an amazing memory by "living with the locals". And House Oliver stood apart as our favorite rental of all.

We took a speed train from Rome to Salerno and arranged for House Olivers driver Claudio to pick us up. He is one of the best parts of our trip because he took away all of the stress of getting around. On our jaw dropping drive to House Oliver he took us to lunch in Minori at a beautiful restaurant on the ocean called Torre Normanna, which was a recommendation from host Oliver. This was a perfect start to our stay. I can't say enough about Claudio- he took us to Pompeii another day, and he dropped us off in Salerno when we left for Tuscany. We were renting a car there to drive to Cortona and were worried about getting to the main highway so he had us follow him until we were safely on our way. How nice is that? If you are not driving to House Oliver I might also recommend having him take you to a market so you can stock up on groceries because once you get to House Oliver you just want to sit on one of their 3 terraces, enjoy the view and smell the sweet fresh Air!

One day we walked up the +700 steps to the town of Ravallo. If you are a gardener this will be your favorite part of your trip as Villa Cimbrone gardens are spectacular. We didn't have time to go to Capri and unfortunately we didn't have weather conditions to take Olivers famous boat tour - but that gives us another reason to return someday!

The location is actually between a quaint town Atrani and Minori and the house sits above the road with spectacular views. As others have said you will need to walk along road to get to towns (about 15 min to Atrani and 25 to Amalfi). Again this is what the locals do and it just adds to the experience. The WiFi was spotty one day so make a note of that if this is a big deal to you.

Oliver and Lela are such gracious hosts - from having the fridge stocked for you ,daily cleaning, antiques and paintings, fresh hotel like linens and pillows- they go above and beyond to make your stay 5star. We only wish we could have stayed longer!!

Perfect. Assolutamente perfetto.

  • 5 of 5

Although weary from travel, we were newly energized upon arrival by the sheer beauty of the surroundings and the warmest, most genuine welcome by our hosts! If you want to experience real Italian hospitality, this is the place you need to book. Everything from the well appointed furnishings (nothing lacking here!) to the stunning views (BREATHTAKING) was beyond compare. Our wonderful hosts Oliver & Lella were gracious and accessible. While always available when we needed them, they were absolutely hidden from view at all times, which made it a challenge to pin them down when we so badly wanted them to join us for an espresso! They both are salt of the earth... the kind of people you can sit and talk with all night long without tiring.

As so many reviews stated, this property is situated in the ideal spot. Walks to bus stops are very short, and connect to Amalfi town square, Positano, Ravello, Minori and Maiori in a hop, skip and jump. Your jaw will drop at the stark beauty of any of those destinations and the friendly people you will encounter will make you feel like a local, not a tourist. Our 7 days there just scratched the surface of this amazing region of Italy. We could spend 2 full weeks and still feel there was not enough time.

Bottom line: WONDERFUL hosts. Best in Italy...hands down. Location, location, location...it has it all, with every amenity you need. You better act fast to book this place because I guarantee it will fill up quickly!

EXCEPTIONAL!! PERFECTION!! Do not hesitate to book !!

  • 5 of 5

Every single moment of my stay at House Oliviero was perfection. From the moment we stepped from the cab, I was amazed at the attention to detail and the enthusiasm of Oliver and his beautiful wife Lella. Our luggage was brought to our room and we spent some time with Oliver and a welcome bottle of prosecco. He spent time going over all of the amenities of this amazing villa and also shared his recommendations for things to do in the area. It's easy to do day trips to Capri, Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, but the best part of the day was always when we returned to lounge at the villa. The villa is well stocked, spotless, and had everything we needed and more.

Oliver was always available throughout our stay to answer questions and to provide suggestions. He is an outgoing, well spoke, and informative host. We loved him and his wife.

If you are thinking of a perfect location, wonderful hosts, and amazing views, you will have it all here.

Am already missing our vacation, but we will return !!
