We (Richard and Doris) are retired and are enjoying the pace of life in this area. We live next door to the cottage and enjoy being your hosts.
Richard and Doris Lauer purchased this cottage in 1993
This is a family property and Richard's parents built the cottage in the 1950's. It's a special place for our family.
We like what the area has to offer-quiet, beautiful, clean atmosphere, small but charming community. And there is always plenty to do in the out of doors.
We were very excited to head to the Caddisfly Resort for our anniversary this week. I have been there many times before (years ago), and always had a great experience. When we checked into our room we noticed that there was no firewood. My husband went to ask where he could find it, and was told that we had to purchase firewood at the market. The market located next door was out of firewood, so he headed 3 miles down the road to dig through their wet wood, and managed to find enough that we could have 2 evening fires. I have never stayed anywhere that provided a fireplace, but no wood. It would have been nice to know that ahead of time so that we could have brought wood with us. When we crawled into bed that night, we discovered that we were sleeping on 2 old twin beds that were pushed together. There was such a big ridge where they met, that we spent our anniversary getaway sleeping on opposite sides of the bed. When I went to cook breakfast in the morning (we ate at Takodas the night before), I opened the silverware drawer and found 3 long human hairs mixed in with the silverware. Yuck! Having been a professional housekeeper for years, I started to look closer at everything. The container that held the utensils was filthy, as was the inside of every drawer and cabinet and the inside of the microwave. The dish drainer itself was so disgusting that I used a towel to drain the dishes after I washed them. I then went to the bathroom for a closer inspection. The shelves above the toilet were covered in cobwebs, the shower floor was filthy and the shower curtain looked like it hadn't been cleaned in way too long. I decided at that point that I would not be taking a shower during our visit. I have to say the whole thing was very disappointing. I have great memories of staying there, and was looking forward to a cozy, romantic getaway with a crackling fire in the fireplace. We will never go back.
We have been coming to the McKenzie River for over 40 years now in our RV. The McKenzie is where I key down from the stress of living in a big city. This year we decided to try something different. We came up from Los Angeles by train, rented a car in Eugene and our stay here was beautiful. The cottages are very clean and maintained well. Dick and Doris are delightful hosts and made sure we were comfortable in every way. We spent much of our time on our private deck and down at the river's edge watching rafters and just enjoying nature at its very best. We also enjoyed delicious Marionberry pies made by a local baker. We hope to return again very soon. .Thank you Dick and Doris for all your caring.
Thank you Dick and Doris for an amazing weekend. You were so kind and generous. We loved the cabin, the view and the location. We made a trip to Sisters where we saw tons of snow and the day before we went to Portland and Multnomah Falls. Everyone's favorite part was either looking out the window at the river when it was raining or walking down to the river when it wasn't. The cabin had everything we needed other than food. Thank you again. We already trying to decide when we will be back.
My girlfriend and I (and our golden retriever) stayed 3 nights here and it was perfect for a number of reasons: the great location, the actual cabin, and the kind owners. The cabin was situated about 15 yards from the river so night and day the sounds and views of the McKenzie river can be enjoyed even while inside. You will be a 20 minute drive from two really nice hot springs (one in the forest and another more commercial.) The actual cabin is well-built, cozy and includes everything you may need as far as kitchen supplies, bathroom amenities and bedding. The owners, Richard and Doris, were very welcoming and kind (and accommodating when we wanted to extend our stay a third night.) We definitely recommend this cabin for anyone seeking a peaceful getaway along the Mckenzie River.
Our family came with friends to enjoy a weekend. Dick and Doris are such gracious hosts. We brought our dog and the grounds are very well kept. There's even a doggy clean up station!
The views of the McKenzie River are breathtaking, and even with all the windows closed the soothing sound of the river could be heard. We're looking forward to the next time we're able to get away to this wonderful little resort.
My friends and I had a "ladies getaway" this past weekend, and had such a wonderful time at one of the little cabins at Caddisfly Resort. The owners are warm and kind, the cabin was spotlessly clean and well stocked, and the view was wonderful with just a short walk down to the river. There was even a little grocery store right next door for things we forgot or needed! Thank you for a truly special time, and we have now become part of the Caddisfly Resort loyal repeat lodgers.
Area is abundant with hiking/biking trails, water falls, lakes and streams for rafting, floating, kayaking, fishing, swimming, etc. A major golf course real close by. Scenic drives in several directions. Hot Springs nearby.
