Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Owning this house for 33 years has allowed me to give low rental rates to my guests. Older house, but it is comfortable. Two night minimum for $125 per night will expire on December 21. Please check my rate schedule for pricing during your requested time.

Near all activities, including hiking trails, swimming in either pools or a fresh water lake and just a short distance to the Mountain Inn and Conference Center.

If you're looking for extreme luxury, thanks for checking me out, but this is set up for families and kids, and you may want to check out the accommodations that rent for much more if you want additional luxury. I have done a lot of work on this house myself, and you can tell a professional contractor did not do some of the work. If you can get by that - you won't have any problem staying here. When I get around to finishing my improvements, I'll do it, but I don't know when that will be. Please don'[t come here and complain about my Do It Yourself projects! The house is old, but it is clean, comfortable and has satisfied families for 33 years. The photos will speak for themselves.

NETFLIX! Enjoy a great selection of movies or your favorite TV shows using Netflix my streaming attachment. A guest account is available if you do not have your own Netflix account. I also have Encore, HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and The Movie Channel if you want to surf cable for movies.

If you get tired of movies, have a blast on the dual mike karaoke machine and over twenty karaoke CD discs with all types of music. The karaoke may be hooked up to the TV for large screen lyrics.

This house is located five blocks from the ski slopes. The shuttle bus does not stop on my street because we are so close, but you may call transportation, and they may pick you up if they have time (no guarantee though).

There is a $50 charge for one pet (if accompanied by a paying adult). Check with me if you have more than one.

This is a comfortable home at affordable rates. Wireless Verizon DSL Internet service is provided.

42 inch TV. Enjoy watching movies (DVD's including Blue Ray) or games on PlayStation 3. I provide PS3 video games, or you are welcome to bring your own.

There are several wineries just a short drive away. A map with directions and phone numbers is available upon request.

Horseback riding is available in the valley at Stoney Creek. Rodes Farm offers pony rides for the kids, trail rides and they even give lessons

Chestnut Springs Pool facility and Pavilion are minutes away from the house. The Rodes Farm pool, in the valley (about ten minutes away by car) includes volleyball court, kiddie pool, horseshoes and tennis. These facilities are available to my guests between Memorial Day and Labor Day, without charge. Sherando Lake in the George Washington National Forest is 6 miles away (about 10 minutes).

About Deerview

I retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in 2009. I worked as an Air Traffic Controller in seven different FAA facilities, including my home town of Providence, Rhode Island. I love pets, especially dogs, with cats being a close second. It's hard for me to pass by someone walking their dog in my neighborhood without stopping to pet them or scratch their ears (the dog - not the owner). One of my daughters has a cat, who I love to have lay on my lap, and purr while I'm brushing him.

We are the original owners of this house at Wintergreen and have been enjoying the mountain since 1984. It may not be as fancy as some of the houses on the mountain, but the kids, grandchildren, and our pets are always comfortable and have a good time.

Deerview purchased this house in 1984

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was a getaway to celebrate a birthday and spend time with friends. There was ample space for us to relax. The PS3 is a nice touch. We loved the wood stove. For future visitors come well prepared with paper towels, toilet paper , towels , bed sheets *1 king *1 queen *1 full *1 twin (or pay a fee if you decide to use what's provided). We loved the washer and dryer (bring laundry detergent). At the resort there are a a few overlooks and a few trails to explore. There's a market and gas station at the resort. There are a few town markets and restaurants. We visited a few nearby breweries, Bold Rock and Blue Toad. There is a binder at the property that gives you a map of Wintergreen and instructions for your stay. I recommend for couples and families. It's a very quiet community, very serene.

Quaint cabin in the woods, exactly what we were looking for.

  • 5 of 5

We were 1 of 2 families staying here with kids and dogs. The owner was very kind and accommodating. The cabin was the right size and price for us. We really enjoyed our thanksgiving at the cabin for a few days with our friends. We were able to make a full thanksgiving meal. Kids enjoyed playing video games and watching movies, we enjoyed watching the kids sing karaoke. We explored the area and did geocaching. Overall the place is really nice, it was clean, comfortable, homey. Would definitely recommend to other friends, and would love to stay here again.

Property was clean, plenty of space, nice sized deck, internet was ok.

  • 5 of 5

Was exactly what we were expecting. We spent more time out hiking and exploring the parks, but it was nice to come back to a clean, comfortable cabin. Kitchen had all the supplies we needed. Bed was comfortable. Very close to a few breweries and the couple restaurants at the resort. Also, close to blue ridge parkway. Would recommend finding a grocery store before you make your trip up the mountain.

Owner's Response: It is a good idea to grocery shop if you plan on cooking your meals. There is a convenience store with a deli and nice beer and wine selection 5 blocks away, but that should only be for emergencies. I have directions in the house to an IGA market 6 miles away and a Super Walmart which is a 20 minute drive to Waynesboro, but worth the trip. Thanks for the review, and I will look forward to you returning.
