I've been coming to Maine for over 30 years with my husband to visit his family. This year, I brought my brother and his family---first timers. Mind you, they are not campers; can't stand bugs; and don't like the "rustic". They loved it! The house is roomy, comfortable, beautiful and the kitchen is well- stocked. The lake is beautiful also.
My family was so excited to see an Eagle, Osprey, and the Loons---they were there every morning(and the girls were fascinated by them). Scott and Lisa provide wood for the fire pit (very cool) and they have three kayaks which was also a first-time experience for my family. They went out on the lake (which is pretty calm) almost every day. The location is not bad for particular points of interest i.e. Portland, Freeport, and Popham Beach. Great restaurants are in Hallowell, Agusta, and other places as pointed out by Scott and Lisa. Scott was easy to work with from the beginning. He always responded to my texts and e-mails. He was there to greet us and give us a helpful tour and he also returned our deposit (with a shirt I left behind) within a day. Loved it!
We had a wonderful stay at the "Maine House" during Christmas. The house is in a perfect spot overlooking the pond. The decor is beautiful and the kitchen has everything you might need. Scott and Lisa generously provide the basic staples in the kitchen along with trash bags, dish soap, spices and plastic wrap etc....all the things you hate to buy for a week's stay. Scott was available and easy to reach. I would highly recommend this house ! You will not be disappointed. LCJ Cape Cd MA
Just got home from a great week at the Maine House. The owner Scott was there when we arrived. He gave us a quick tour of the house and grounds. We unpacked and felt a home right away. Webber pond is great for whatever you want to do on the water. We used the kayaks a lot. I fished and my wife paddled along pointing out the eagles nest. My 3 1/2 year old granddaughter loved the little beach. Speaking of that, I caught a 3 1/2 lb. lg. mouth bass and a 3 lb. Plus a great fight from a 17 in. pickerel right from the dock. We also had a great display of hunting birds, including bald eagles and osprey. The sounds of the loons are great. Minor downfall is the neighbor uses Sunday to do his lawn. So with that we are already looking to see if we can do this next year as well.
This house was huge and there were only 2 of us so we stayed on the main level. The kitchen has just about everything you'd need if you like to cook. The dining room looks out onto the beautiful lake. Our visit to Maine was made complete by our stay at this peaceful setting. The lovely towns of Waterville, Augusta, and Hallowell are nearby. Waterville had a great farmer's market. Hallowell had great restaurants.
I rented this lake house for my family (me, wife, 5yr old, 2yr old and dogs) and my parents. The house was in great shape with all of the amenities you could want. Nice kitchen, comfortable beds, small deck, great yard. There was a nice grill, firepit and kayaks for our use. We used them all. The wifi was spotty, which made checking in with work difficult, but also made for a great excuse. The dock was great for tying up our little fishing boat and for my girls to fish from. The shallow beach area was perfect for our small children and dogs to swim, and it made a great place to put a beach chair while they swam. The fishing was great and the public boat launch was out of earshot but just around the point and in great condition. Even my father could have backed a boat into it (and that is saying something). Met some great neighbors in the cove (though the neighbor on the other side seemed to be always mowing or trimming or using some sort of power tool). The rest of the lake was pretty much boat-free during mid-week - perfect for fishing and kayaking. We also saw a bald eagle fishing out of the lake which the kids loved. For our rainy day, Augusta is close though mostly full of chain stores and restaurants and luckily a big movie theater as a perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon. All-in-all one of the nicest places we've rented over the years. we'll be looking to visit again
We had such a blast staying here for a week in August. The house was plenty large enough for our party of 8 humans and 3 dogs and we definitely didn't feel on top of each other. The kitchen was nice and large with an island in the middle with a couple of stools that were great for quick snacks or to chat while preparing food.
The water was warm enough to swim comfortably, though the adults had to get past the weeds to do so. There was a nice, large beachy area for the kids to play. There were some rocks, which is expected in a lake, so we utilized water shoes a bit. There were plenty of floats and water toys around for us to use as well as a paddle boat, though it was quickly discovered that it was taking on water, so we didn't use that. The hammock was great for lazy days and watching the bald eagles and osprey flying around. The yard was large enough for the kids to throw a frisbee around and the neighbors were super sweet. They even let my nephew borrow a fishing pole and gave him some worms to fish with them one evening.
The house wasn't too far from Augusta. My husband and I brought our 3 year old to the children's museum there and had some lunch one day (don't waste your money on the children's museum) and there is a Hannaford that isn't too far to get all your shopping done. It's very easy to get to off the highway. If you're into gadgets, there is WiFi there as well, which did come in handy for directions to get places and for some rainy day entertainment.
Overall, we had a great time. My husband, daughter and myself took our 2 huskies for a walk down the dirt road past the house, which has some nice views of the lake. There are heron hanging out in the swampy area by the boat ramp (which I had some concerns about being so close to, nothing to worry about).
1 mile to Natanis Golf Course Maine's only 36 regulation golf course. Colby College 16 miles away. Great bass fishing. Plenty of fall foliage for leaf peepers. For winter getaway house sits, literally, on groomed ITS 85 Snowmobile Trail. Ice fishing and cross country skiing, snowshoe.
Bowling , Paint ball , Frisbee golf close by, movie theaters, and boat rental near by, paddle or motor to church island for a picnic
