Overview

About the property

Cottage, w3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Whether you love sunning and swimming at the beach or fishing and boating on the bay you'll find the best of both worlds in Cape San Blas. The beach has been voted number one beach in America numerous times and St. Joseph's Bay is know to be one of the top fishing destinations as well. Our house, Sundance Cottage, happens to be right in the middle of both.

Nestled in the sand dunes of Cape San Blas, it is about 250 yards to the deeded accesses of both the beach and the bay. Sunbathers will enjoy the outdoor shower and bathroom after a day on the beach and fishermen will find the fish cleaning station a handy addition after a successful day of fishing. With ample parking underneath the house there is plenty of room to bring your boat or waverunners which can be launched at St. Joseph's State Park, just 2/10 of a mile from the house.

With three bedrooms and three baths (one is outside but the shower and toilet are enclosed), the house will comfortably sleep six people. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, cable TV, private bath, and French doors which lead onto the back deck that overlooks the dunes. There are no other homes behind ours so it is very private on the back deck. The other two bedrooms each have queen-size beds and share the full bath conveniently located in the hall. One of the queen bedrooms has cable TV as well.

Everyone will enjoy watching the 36' TV in the large, comfortable sofas and chairs. You may choose from our selection of movies or bring your favorite VHS tapes, DVD's and CD's to enjoy the entertainment center complete with cable TV, VCR, DVD, and CD player. Bring you laptop and get online with our broadband, wireless, high speed internet connection.

Since Cape San Blas is not known for restaurants and night life we keep the kitchen well stocked with plenty of cookware and utensils and the pantry stocked with spices and staples so you'll be able to cook your fresh catch of the day on the large stainless steel grill on the deck. There is also plenty of deck furniture for outdoor dining as well.

So if you're looking for a place that's somewhat off the beaten path you have found it here. Uncrowded beaches, endless shelling, fantastic fishing, or just boating around the bay are just a few of the things to do. Rent a bike and ride for miles, rent a kayak and ride the waves, or just enjoy the beautiful, serene enviornment with your friends and family. Cape San Blas is not just the 'forgotten coast'...it is also an undiscovered Paradise.

About Karen Jones

My husband and I share ownership of this home with his brother and wife. We all own and run a manufacturing business in Northeast Alabama including scaffold manufacturing as well as attachments for skid steers and excavators. In addition to using the home ourselves we allow our employees to vacation there and sometimes entertain customers there.

Karen Jones purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Karen Jones chose Florida Main North West

We first visited the area several years ago and absolutely fell in love with it. We've always vacationed in the panhandle...mostly Destin and it reminds us of what Destin used to be like when we were kids. We like the laid back atmosphere, uncrowded beaches, excellent fishing and peace and quiet.

What makes this cottage unique

Our home is only 2/10 of a mile from the entrance to St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park so if you bring a boat you are very close to the boat launch there. Additionally we have an excellent deeded beach access with only private homes there so the beach is never crowded. Our deeded bay access is great for fishing the grass flats for speckled trout and redfish as well as launching a kayak or canoe. Our neighborhood, Peninsula Estates, is very peaceful and quiet so most times you can still hear the surf from our outside decks.

Owner's Response: This is a review that I feel is very helpful to my guests and to the point! Everyone looking for a beach vacation is looking for all these things in a rental especially if it's not a gulf front property. This says a lot about the location and access to the beach and those are the questions I get the most. Even though it is not right on the beach now my future guests know from a previous guest that our deeded beach access is quiet and easily accessible!

This was our first time at Cape San Blas and we loved. it. The house was a short walk to the beach and it was well stocked and well taken care of. Karen, the owner was very responsive to all our needs. Would stay here again!

Fun in the sun at Sundance Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rented this property for a family vacation with our son and our 4 year old granddaughter and our daughter. From the time we walked in the door till the day we had to leave, we enjoyed the stay. The house was clean and the beds were very comfortable to sleep on. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck and just relaxing and grilling hamburgs and hot-dogs. We did a lot of fishing in the bay as well as surf fishing and the fish cleaning station was great. While this house is not located on the bay or the gulf, both are easily accessible. I would not think twice about staying here again because we had a great week. As a matter of fact when we were leaving my granddaughter said, "Grammy, next year get it for two weeks." We just might do that. Thanks for the use of your lovely home.

Owner's Response: You really do get a lot for your money when you rent Sundance Cottagewith easy access to the gulf and bay as well as close proximity to St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park. Additionally the native setting of our neighborhood is quite beautiful and even more peaceful. Add a fish cleaning station to prep your daily catch and you've got yourself a pretty sweet deal🙂

Beautiful home with plenty of room. Nice quiet neighborhood. A bit of a walk to the beach but we knew that ahead of time so we drove to the private access which worked out great.

Sundance cottage is located perfectly between the beach and the bay. With a deck on both the front and back it's perfect for lounging during the day and stargazing at night (unbelievable)! We felt right at home...loved Sundance cottage! We will definitely be back

A perfect vacation for a couple from Atlanta

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I travel a lot and we were desperately looking for a location that was as quiet as possible, a bit of a throwback before all the development hit all the beaches and in Mexico. I'm reluctant to even write this review, however if you're reading it you've already stumbled across Cape San Blas. I want to keep it our little secret. This island is still very underdeveloped and is filled with just homes and remote sand dunes. This house is exactly that. Just a quick walk from the beach, it is positioned in a sand dune. The backyard is completely remote. There is a new home next door, however it still feels very private on the back deck. We decided to rent a house by ourselves because the price was so right. The beaches are wonderful. The stargazing can't be beat. At night, we sat on the back deck and used our Sky Map application and explored the Stars like we haven't since we were kids. On the last night, we decided to walk down the beach and use the app to see even more.

The house has been updated inside and is extremely clean. It has all the necessary amenities. We cooked in twice since there really aren't many choices for dining on the Cape. We had absolutely no problem cooking big meals for ourselves.

We will be back to Cape San Blas soon and definitely will be renting this home again.

Thank you for having us and I highly recommend it to anybody who would like to stay.

St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park is just around the corner from our house. They have a boat ramp and dock for day docking plus large area on the bay for fishing from the land or wading the grass beds. If you love raw oysters you must visit the Indian Pass Raw Bar which is about a 10 minute drive from the house. Another good place for oysters and seafood is Triple Tails which you pass on the way to our house.
