Pieve di Compito is one of several sought-after villages within 20 minutes of Lucca.... tucked into a bowl-shaped valley, surrounded by olive trees and pine-covered hills, 'Il Rifugio' is a recently restored 18th Century villa, which was once part of a monastery building. The monks catered to pilgrims traveling to Rome, welcoming them with a bite of food and a rest...a 'refuge' for weary travelers...Now you too can relax and regenerate at 'Il Rifugio'....a 3-suite B&B, elegantly appointed, surrounded with extensive flower and veggie gardens.
All 3 Suites have a private bath and sitting area, Satellite TV and Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and are furnished for relaxation and comfort. Italian and Asian antiques give the rooms a classic feel.
The full breakfast is served from 7AM to 10 AM.
'Il Rifugio' is centrally located to Pisa, Florence and the Tyrrhenian Sea ...the walled city of Lucca can be reached quickly from the village.
There are hiking trails into the Monte Serra hills, olive groves to explore. Come enjoy a pizza from the local trattoria (along with wonderful Tuscan dishes) and of course, our own Monte Carlo wines. Wine Country self-guided tours are a must.

Year Purchased: 2007
About the owner: We purchased the property, in a very run-down condition, in 2005 while on vacation here in Pieve di Compito...it was love at first sight...although it took a bit of imagination to see through the dirt and grime, visualizing a potential dream home. After 2 years of restoration, and many trips to Italy from our home in Hawaii to oversee the restoration, the villa was finally finished. Now we would like to share this beautiful village home and garden with you.
Why the Owner Chose Capannori LU, Italy:
We investigated several hilltop, islolated properties when we were thinking of coming to Italy...lovely classic views...but lonely. We wanted to be where there was some life, maybe a few neighbors, within walking distance to a restaurant or 2...and so found 'Il Rifugio', part of an old grouping of buildings which once served pilgrims going to Rome.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The location is prime...and living here has enforced that opinion for us. We are close to many visitor attractions and yet away from the hustle and bustle...this little valley is perfectly situated, with a microclimate that allows roses (my obsession) to bloom in December, and my Spring bulbs to pop out in February...with just a bit of chilly weather. A gardener's delight!
