Ocean View Retreat Nestled in Forest -- Cozy, Serene, Private

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Bungalow, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-5)

Welcome! Nestled in the Siuslaw forest on the Central Oregon Coast, our cottage sits on several acres of private property with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. Designed and outfitted as a place to let-go, relax and reconnect with yourself and nature, our cottage can be enjoyed solo, with a lover, family or friends.

The cottage is newly remodeled with top-of-the-line appliances, tasteful decor and beautiful woodwork. The floor plan is open, creating an environment of togetherness. There are large windows throughout the cottage, allowing the beauty of outside nature to be enjoyed inside.

Off of the living area is a private bedroom with one queen size bed that overlooks the ocean. Around the corner, a full-size European bath awaits your pleasure – candles and bubbles welcome! For nights enjoyed by hearth, there is a wood-stove in the main room stocked with firewood and an electronic fireplace in the bedroom.

For outside dining and relaxation, there is a wrap around deck and two terraces with ample seating and dining areas. These are the best places to enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and sounds of nature! When the temperature drops, there is an outside heater on the deck.

We call our cottage Sans Souci – French for ‘without worry or trouble’. We’ve designed and outfitted our cottage to accommodate a visit truly without worry. It’s an attitude and experience we hope you realize here and are able to take with you when you leave.

Paradise on the Ocean

  • 5 of 5

Marvelous little cottage with some of the most magnificent views from the forest south along the coast looking toward Florence and out to the sea. The weather while we were here was spectacular (although sometimes a little windy) and the sunsets glorious. Sans Souci easily accommodates 3 people (2 sharing a bed and 1 on a very comfortable divan), has everything needed for a self-contained get away (groceries are a 15 min drive into Florence); boasts well-tended gardens and paths; an intimate bath as part of the bedroom; and a more discrete shower and toilet around the corner, so would be optimal for a couple or very good friends. All appliances are nearly new and we were able to pack just a half of a week's clothing for a week's visit to OR by using the stackable/washer. We would have enjoyed staying longer than 2 days (and would recommend it!) to walk more of the trails in the Siuslaw National Forest adjacent to the property. Wildlife is a highlight: We enjoyed the welcome of 5 female elk who grazed 75 feet away in an open field just down the hill from the cottage; sea lions surfing nearby at Heceta Lighthouse beach; and numerous birds and early spring plants (bring binoculars and/or long camera lenses). The only issue that was eclipsed by everything else that followed was finding the place. In-car and Garmin GPS get you within 0.1 mi of the road entry. We inadvertently took one of two possible entries that took us on a detour through the forest before being redirected by James (caretaker) by phone to the proper drive (which is quite inconspicuous from Hwy 101) but once found, gave us more of a sense of privacy at the place. In other words, if we were looking hard to find it and had some problems doing so, nobody is likely to just wander on up for a look-see! The owner, Donia, is very accessible for answers to questions during and up to the actual day of arrival. Also, we had a last min. change in plans that she graciously accommodated. Easily a 5 star property and experience. You won't be disappointed. In particular, the online pictures of the views don't do it justice.

Great place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

What a wonderful place with wonderful views. We had a great time staying here. The only difficulty we had was finding the road to the house. It would be great if visitors were given more detailed information on how to find the turnoff. It is right by milepost 180, but it has signs on posts on the road that say "no trespassing" on them, which led us to try to find a different road to take. In addition, it would be good for people to know that the road up to the house is a gravel road, and is pretty steep at places. Once we got there, though, we loved the place and had a wonderful time.

Peace and beauty

This home is in the most peaceful and beautiful setting. I have stayed at many Oregon Coast homes and this one is unique as it offers a place to relax with wonderful views and in a thoughtfully and beautifully decorated home. Quite simply--GO

Such an amazing place! Comfortable, quiet, private, and the views can’t be beat.

We had a great time, and our dogs loved racing around the hillside. James and Donia were both very helpful with questions before our visit, and the cabin was really well stocked - we had everything we needed during our stay. We loved being up high enough to enjoy all the weather, from snow to rainstorm to sunshine! Thanks so much for sharing this place.

We'll be back

Location, decorating, functionality ... all excellent. After 35 years of weekends and short stays on the southern Oregon coast, I recognize this property is special. Like the title says, we'll be back.
