About Rhona and Carroll Kimble

We live close to the Potomac Overlook,My husband always wanted to build a small log cabin.Since being retired for a few years we purchased the small piece of land and have built this cabin to rent to people to enjoy and explore the beauty of our surrounding area like Smoke Hole canyon Seneca Rocks Dolly sods and Spruce Knob and lots of other interesting things to do like fishing, hunting, hiking to mention a few. We also have the HIdeaway Rental House which is located across the road from the cabin up in the woods that we rent also for the last 5 years.

Rhona and Carroll Kimble purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Rhona and Carroll Kimble chose West Virginia

We chose to build cabin here because of the beautiful view and it is close to the Smoke Hole canyon where lots of people fish in the South Branch of the Potomac river. For more reviews of the cabin go to www.vacationhomerentals and click on WV and Smoke hole and read the posts on The potomac Overlook Cabin.

What makes this cabin unique

Amazing views and imaculate modern cabin

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and our 2 small dogs had a wonderful 4 day stay here at Potomac Overlook. Cabin is well maintained and very clean and comfortable. We loved the way it was decorated. Kitchen is well stocked with all the necessities needed to cook. We rarely cook at home and enjoyed using the kitchen everyday. We loved the area and the views and even experienced waking up to 3 inches of snow. We will make this one of our places to visit and is an easy 3 hour drive from DC.

Owner's Response: Matt and Maggie, glad you found our cabin wonderful for your 4 night stay and enjoyed cooking at the cabin. Well as for the 3 inches of snow we got I was surprised also for the weather had been so warm and nice here days before, but was happy for I know in the winter most people at our cabins loves to see a little snow. Hope you may return again in the future. Thanks for taking time to post a review for us. Rhona and Hap

Cozy & beautifully decorated cabin with incredible views!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was, by far, the most cozy & beautifully decorated cabin we have ever stayed at. The cabin was extremely clean & the owners supplied us with everything that we needed for our stay. The firepit setting was great for cooking dinners & relaxing. Our dogs enjoyed playing in the yard & it was great they were allowed to be a part of our stay as well. Carroll stopped by to introduce himself & to see if we needed anything which was thoughtful. Beautiful views could be seen from the deck of the mountains, countryside, & Potomac River. We enjoyed dinner at the Fireside Cafe in nearby Franklin & checked out the Smoke Hole Cavern & Canyon which was unique & a lot of fun. The only drawback was the cabin's proximity to the main road as we didn't realize we would be quite so close when originally booking. Overall we had an amazing time as this was a perfect getaway from everyday life. Thank you Rhona & Carroll for a memorable stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you Danielle for posting a review. I am happy to know you enjoyed my nicely decorated bear theme log cabin and loved the view from cabin and firepit. The cabin yes is by the road but yet people traveling by can't see you sitting on the front porch at all or at the firepit very easy. You just have to make sure you pet is on a leach while outside especially if they don,t listen to there owners well. But I don't think you had this problem with your pets and glad you found our beautiful cabin that is pet friendly for your stay. Hope you may return in the future to see more of the areas beautiful scenic attractions or just to relax and cook at the cabin again. The Kimbles

The cabin and the owners were absolutely awesome. The view from the back porch was breath taking. The cabin was immaculate and had everything you could think you'd ever need and then some! We had an amazing time doing absolutely nothing. We enjoyed our time together away from the hustle and bustle of life. We only left the cabin long enough to grab dinner to go and come back and enjoy it on the porch of the cabin. The fireside cafe was everything you told us it would be. Rhona and Carroll were so friendly. They made us feel right at home. My fiance enjoyed talking cars with Carroll. Thank you for allowing us to begin our getaway a couple hours early! We will most definitely be back!

This cabin is gorgeous! The pics don't do justice. The owners are very nice & thought of everything to make this cabin feel like home. Thank you for letting me bring my fur-baby it wouldn't have been the same without him! We had a great time sitting around the fire pit & when it rained we played checkers inside by the window & enjoyed just doing nothing. We also fished which is just a 2 min drive down the road. Also the recommendations for food at fireside cafe was delicious! Thank you again for sharing your beautiful cabin with us! We will definately be back 😊

Absolutely Fabulous!!!

Wow! What can we say that others haven't? Your Potomac Overlook Cabin with all of its beautiful, woodland accents, provided the perfect respite for us 3 sisters to laugh, reminisce and relax. Of all of the HomeAway properties we have rented, your place is the best, by far. We did manage to venture out and see the sights, but we would have been just as content to stay at your cabin, enjoying its picturesque scenery. Thank you Rhona and Hap for sharing your fantastic, meticulous retreat with us. You are such a very lovely couple and we are fortunate to have met you. We can't thank you enough, for everything. Take care!!! We will be back!!!

P.S. We posted pictures of our experience on our Facebook pages along with the link to rent your place. The link has already been shared by several of our friends. :-)
