About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6).

This lovely suite is situated on the ground floor of our two story home on a long sandy beach with views of Texada, Lasquiti and Hornby Islands. Great for a walk while enjoying the salt air. Or, get out your fishing rod and enjoy fishing on what is arguably the best fishing beach in the area. Arrowsmith Golf Course is five minutes away. Just 200 meters away is a pub with food and live music as well as another restaurant. An easy walk, no need to drive after enjoying a cool one.

The home having just been renovated is well appointed. Relax and enjoy the ocean, whatever the weather, from the cozy living room or while having breakfast at the dining room table.

The ground floor deck is at one end of the house and the deck for the upstairs is at the other end of the house, both very separate and private from each other.

The large kitchen is fully equipped with all appliances and a propane BBQ on the deck. Just bring your groceries. All three bedrooms feature queen size beds with quality new linens and pillows. The bathroom is completely renovated and includes towels. Please supply your own beach towels.

This house has all the comforts of home including high speed wireless internet, TV, Cable, DVD, CD, Telephone (free calls Canada/USA), washer/dryer and a new wood airtight fireplace insert with wood supplied.

There is so much to do – walk or play botchi ball on the sandy beach, watch the wildlife, which includes seals, sea lions and eagles, go for a swim, or go fishing. Between Nile Creek and Big Qualicum River, this is one of the best fishing beaches on the coast. There are numerous golf courses within 5 to 30 minutes.

Great seafood abounds in this area and you can easily purchase fresh oysters from Fanny Bay Oysters or fresh scallops from Island Scallops. Locally caught fish are available at many stores. In the summer, there are various farmer’s markets (Courtenay, Qualicum Beach, Coombs Market) where you can buy amazing fresh produce. There is an excellent grocery store, coffee shop and a liquor store just 4 minutes drive.

There are great walking trails in the neighbourhood as well as many parks within 1 hours drive including: Horne Lake Provincial Park, Englishman Falls Provincial Park, Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park, Milner Gardens, Mount Washington and Cathedral Grove Provincial Park with its ancient trees.

What makes this house unique

Great local music at the Crown and Anchor Pub. The Lighthouse Blue Grass Festival is the first weekend in July.

It is a fisherman's paradise -- both ocean and freshwater. Fish are routinely caught on the beach in front of the house.

Lighthouse Country -

For events scheduled at the local Lighthouse Community Centre just a kilometer away,

For lovely hikes, Englishman River Falls - about 20 minutes drive from the house. The first site is the provincial park website giving the basic park information while the second is pictures of sites around the area, including the Falls.

Little Qualicum Falls - about 20 minutes from the house. First site is the provincial park website and the second is images from an individual.

Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park, 20 minute drive for hiking and caving. On the way enjoy warm, fresh water swimming and canoeing at Spider Lake, 10 minutes away,

Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, 20 minutes, a magnificent sandy bay at low tide, www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/rathtrevor/

Cathedral Grove - old growth forest. The forest was nominated as one of the seven wonders of Canada. I have included that link last.

Elk Falls Provincial Park near Campbell River an hour from here is found at,

Salt water Salmon fly-fishing - from our beach from mid-July to late October. You should check on what lures the fish will take in this area and can be purchased locally.

Fresh water fishing, Horne Lake and Spider Lake, 20 and 10 minutes away.

Kayak and paddleboard rentals can be found in Qualicum Beach, 15 minutes drive at Outsider Adventures at Courtenay, 30 minutes north of here at Comox Valley Kayaks and Canoes or Tree Island Kayaking. The last two provide day trips to the magnificent Sandy Island Marine Provincial Park (also known as Tree Island) which we highly recommend or launch the kayak at the beach at Qualicum Bay, a nice semi-rural community. Close to Island Scallops, Fanny Bay Oysters, excellent oysters and seafood there are a number of places where you can buy fresh fish.

There are excellent farmer's markets at Qualicum Beach, 15 minutes drive,; in Errington, 20 minutes drive,; and Comox Valley Farmers Market in Courtenay, 30 minutes drive, All run on Saturday mornings, so if you want some fresh produce prior to checking in at 4 pm - these are great places to visit. There is a very excellent grocery store in Qualicum Beach (Quality Foods) and a good grocery store (Tomm's) at Bowser, 4 minutes north of the house. Bowser also has shops for liquor, gas, hardware, art, gifts, credit union, library and post office.

Getting here:

You will take BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo,

or from Tsawwassen to Duke Point, arriving fifteen minutes south of Nanaimo,

These are current schedules, but it's good to check as the schedule can change. We recommend that you make a reservation as in the summer the ferries can get booked which can mean waiting for the next ferry. Once in Nanaimo - you take Highway 19A . We recommend 19A as it is the older route that follows the coast, slower but more scenic and takes about one hour or more. Highway 19, the freeway, takes 45 minutes and you use the Horne Lake, Spider Lake exit and drop down to 19A, Island Highway West, and left (north-west) for aprox., three miles to Qualicum Bay.

We are located at Qualicum Bay ... on the ocean side. The best landmark is the Crown and Anchor Roadhouse Pub on the other side of the road about 200 meters from the house. The pub has good local music (bluegrass, country, acoustic etc) and the food is pretty decent. The Sandbar Café, 300 meters is a pleasant restaurant with live music jams several nights a week and Henry’s Kitchen a Chinese restaurant near by. A burger stand, taco stand and ice cream shop open for the summer in the same area.

We will definitely stay again!

This rental met and exceeded our expectations. The hosts were warm, friendly, and had thought of everything. There is plenty of room, and it is very comfortable, and clean. There are lots of extras, such as linens, towels, dishes, etc. The views are outstanding. We were a little dissapointed that the ocean views were not from the bedrooms, however the walkout access to the beach more than made up for that. I would highly recommend this accomodation. There were cookies waiting for us upon arrival as well as some basics, that we greatly appreciated. (coffee, sugar, oil, milk, and flour). The owner's were very hospitable, answering questions, and offering suggestions for where to find good food, and entertainment while we stayed. We felt very welcome, and will absolutely stay here again. Our children loved it, the rooms were big, and the price is right. The location is central, and it has been a wonderful home away from home. We spent our days traveling to Nanaimo for shopping, visiting Salt Spring Island, lunching in Ladysmith, relaxing at the beach in Parksville, visiting Chemainus, Coombs, farm in Eerington, daytripping all over, and strolling in Qualicum. It was always nice to return to the comforts of a home. please noteThe Roadside Pub has excellent food... I could go on and on...

Awesome oceanfront!

This place was clean, spacious, and private. Only complaint we would have is that you can hear the upper rentals footsteps/walking. It is very loud. But with the incredible view and beachfront access to a nice sandy beach.. you spend more time out than in anyway! Qualicum Bay a bit quieter than right in Qualicum Beach or Parksville, yet still a great central location for touring the area. Unit is well equipped.

It was a nice quiet stay by the beach.

The rooms were very nice. The kitchen was great. The place had a real homey atmosphere. We would definitely stay again. It was close to stores and site seeing.

Lovely area

Stayed a week in the basement rental , would never rent a basement again it would be a top floor of the house. The owner as great and so was the girl who was in charge of cleaning. The problem is that no sun shines in and when they above renters put on their air conditioning it freezes you out. They need to clean up the entrance way from the untidy bushes and clean the underneath of the upper deck as this is when you look at when looking out your front window . The inside of the three bedroom was very clean and has everything you need but a selection of tv channels

Damage Deposit $233.17

In HIGH season rental is from Saturdays to Saturdays with few exceptions. LOW Season MONTHLY rates are from November to the end of March ONLY.

Rental Rates, Fees, Deposits and Cancellation Policy

a. The total Rental Fee is $1200 per week and includes any applicable taxes and other applicable charges to be paid at the time of booking, as well as a refundable security / damage deposit of $300, for a total of $1500. Shorter stays and fees will be decided on discussions with the Homeowner.
b. Guests must give notice of cancellation at least 60 days prior to the booking date in order to receive a refund. If, in the event of unforeseen circumstances the Guest cannot honor the reservation and must cancel within the 60 days, the Homeowner will do his best to rent the home, and if successful, will refund all funds paid by the Guest less any minimal costs associated with obtaining another Guest.
c. The security / damage deposit shall be refunded within 21 days of the Checkout Date provided no deductions are made due to:
i. damage to the property or furnishings other than normal wear and tear;
ii. dirt or other mess requiring excessive cleaning; or
iii. any other cost incurred by Homeowner due to Guest’s stay.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
