The location and views to the lake drew us to this house and both were great. We enjoyed the paddle boards and canoe and just being by the water.

Elizabeth we are so happy you enjoyed the views and water on the lake!
By the way you can come anytime the cabin was left so tidy. Much appreciated!

Classic and clean Lake house with all the amenities. Great dock for boats and all water toys, view room over lake and what a view. We could spend a month there.

Great views and the dock is nice. Cabin is so cluttered and dirty it brings new meaning to the term “rustic”.

The cabin is “rustic” since it is a 1938 cabin on Grand Lake with knotty pine ceilings, walls and floors, we do hire a professional cleaning team after each check out and its the first time we have had a complaint in 11 years. I am sorry that it was up to your standard of cleaning. We are glad you enjoyed the enclosed glass patio that looks at the Never Summer Mountains and Rocky Mountain National Park. Steve that has grown up on the Lake since he was 7 years of age said that he has been in all the homes on grand lake and our cabin has the BEST ENCLOSED DECK of ALL! The Private 2 slip dock is great to sip your coffee in the morning and watch the sunsets at night! We have a row boat, paddle boards, canoes and other toys! A true piece of Heaven on Earth!
The kids (4 thru 9) introduced to the piano. The glass enclosed porch offered a panoramic view of the lake. The kids slept in the bunk room and the adults enjoyed the other three bedrooms. As for food, we made breakfasts and lunch, an evening BBQ, and supported the town at dinnertime. The dock was was a great activity center for games, boating and swimming.
The dining table was large enough for all 10 of us. We had spectacular views of the lake, water sporting activities and thunderstorms through gleaming picture windows in the enclosed deck and seating area. We even had access to the private dock! The cabin was clean and generously supplied. Though the kitchen is a bit small the new sink and dishwasher and large outdoor grill made cooking and clean up manageable. Our host responded quickly to our few questions and we felt welcomed and relaxed.
This property isn't for everyone. If you are looking for modern luxury, this isn't it. But if you are looking for historic western elegance, this is a gem. We are a bunch of native Coloradans and really enjoy the early era ambiance and history. And the lake side home, dock, and views are extraordinary. Really glad to have the canoes, kayak, and wetsuits. This is our second year to come here. There were a number of improvements this year to the home and we were grateful for that.

Beautiful lake front cabin, but mixed review
This property is just what it says. It's a beautiful cabin on a beautiful lake., great views and very peaceful. It was fun to have paddle boards and kayaks provided. As other reviewers mentioned, the cabin is very cluttery. The kitchen cabinets were chock full of hundreds of dishes. The silverware drawer was so jam packed it was difficult to open. We took three of the coffeemakers off the counter to make a little work area. There were gross white floaties in the drinking water provided, so we bought our own. We were a party of 6, and we had room in the cabin to spare. The enclosed front porch overlooking the lake is like a slice of heaven. The paddle boards, kayak and row boat provided were wonderful to have, and you can rent motorboats nearby. It was a bit difficult to get down the steep trail/stairs to the lake, but this 66 year old managed. The cabin was double booked, and we were surprised to find another party already checked in when we arrived. The cabin owner found another place for us right on the lake,. The new place was nice, but it included no lake toys and only slept 4. Since we were a party of 6, the two of us who hadn't left Denver yet had to stay behind for 2 days.. The other party was only booked through the weekend, so we were able to get into the cabin on Monday. The owner refunded our $$ generously., and even bought us a fun 'mystery adventure' on the lake. But I was sad and embarrassed that our guests had to miss part of their 1X a year vacation. I probably would not rent this cabin again.

We were happy that you enjoyed your stay with a few glitches. Sorry you would not come back but we will be here if you ever do! We love our Cabin and its look! 1945 original cabin is NOT the the five star hotels you must be accustomed too! I thought by giving you 3 free nights no cleaning and a 125.00 car/boat ride was enough to make you happy- $2,000 total! By the way our water bottle water is purchased not sure where the white things in it came from?
Beautiful views, great water toys, and then it goes downhill
Pros: The views are amazing and the living room area is phenomenal The area of town is full of beautiful houses. Access to a private dock was a huge plus. The house includes a row boat, paddleboards, canoes, and kayaks with plenty of wetsuits and life jackets. The kitchen is on the small side but the rest of the living areas were perfectly fine for a family.
Cons: Overall, the issues weren't deal breakers but the fact that the listing does not mention any of the issues or "quirks" was what left our entire group unhappy and a feeling of false advertisement. The Wifi did not work the entire trip even after trying to call the owner. This was an inconvenience as our baby monitor functions on the internet. The dishwasher was non-functional and broken and with a tiny kitchen, handwashing was not the easiest task with a big group. The kitchen and living areas are much too crowdy and simply put, dirty. Not rustic, but dirty. Dishes included. The downstairs bathroom's claw tub was capped off and it was explained that it had been for a year since the fires. If it's been so long, then why does the listing mention 2 full bathrooms? The screens in the room were broke or non-existent, so you can either deal with a hot temp in the room or open windows with bugs. The dock was amazing but did have the downside of needing to be sanded because every single person in our family had multiple splinters.

Due to Covid & unusually circumstances , we have WIFI and a new Dishwasher . The second bathroom is fully functioning and the Historical Cabin has been declutched . We have a new cleaning professional and I hope all the new renters will enjoy their stay
We NEVER received an email about anything other that we had a reservation. Only 2 rolls of partial toilet paper, partial roll of paper towels, no kleenex. All pantry staples (salt, pepper, sugar etc were old. No book with instructions on anything of where, how things were or how to fix or turn on. Because there was no book of instructions and everything was just thrown into drawers, closets, cabinets, rooms alot of our vacation time was spent searching for things we needed. A fuse was blown and we had to find the fuse box to fix or we wouldn't have had any heat. The grill is broken, the burners are rusted out. There were battery operated candles everywhere but no batteries. No emergency flash light . Refrigerator froze my veggies, all door shelves were missing and was filthy . Coffeepot worked off and on and the filters were too small so coffee grounds were in coffee. Indoor furniture was worn, torn, stained and dirty. Cushion for chairs were so worn out they provided no cushion. Our door furniture cushions were soaking wet and filthy. Dishwasher worked very poorly (each load had to be run twice and we still had to hand wash dishes that the washer did not clean. All dishes and coffee cups were chipped. We paid over $3600.00 for this cabin and we feel ripped off and very very disappointed with our experience. We have traveled in the US, Europe, BVI and this was in no way a place to recommend to anyone. Would love someone from VRBO to reach out.

I am sorry about your experience at the Grand Lake Cabin. There was toilet paper and paper towels in the closet. The dishwasher is 7 months old brand new never had other complaints about the dishes not getting clean. I called you about the breaker and you turned it back on. The red outdoor cushions were purchased this past year. So they are new not torn- You seemed happy about the cabin when we spoke so was a bit surprised at the comments. I hope you did enjoy the views and the lake!
It is a 1946 cabin that states in the listing!
We really wanted to enjoy this rental because of the lake access and view, however, it was infested with bugs that made our trip miserable. The house must not be sealed properly, because the bugs were swarming around lights inside and I was unable to sleep in the bedroom downstairs.
When I tried to relocate to the trundle bed in another room out of desperation, the sheets were filthy and covered in chips and crackers. We were traveling with a large group of family members who had flown in from Europe and there weren't any other rentals available for our size at the last minute to leave this property, so we tried to make do. We bought citronella candles and bug zappers and even sat in the dark with lights off to try to avoid being divebombed by bugs. The owner agreed via text to reimburse us for the bug zappers that we purchased and never did, nor would they give us a refund for our stay.
In addition to the bugs, the water ran brown from the faucets and was smelly and undrinkable. The bedding hadn't been washed. The downstairs bedroom smelled like mold and was unusable. The dock was not well-maintained and was covered in splinters. The entire place was unsanitary.
When we complained to the owner, they said that the bedding was clean. We have pictures and videos of the crackers in the trundle bed. They also blamed us for the bugs, saying that we must have left windows open. Upon first sight of mosquitoes in the bedroom, we inspected all windows and ensured that they were closed, yet the bug problem persisted and magnified in the coming days.
The entire experience was horrible. The owner claims that we did not make it known during our stay that we were unhappy. Do happy guests alert you that they needed to purchase bug zappers to be able to stay in your home? Several thousands of dollars for several nights of undrinkable water, unusable bedrooms infested with bugs and zero compassion from the owner. It was a miserable expreience. Do not stay here.

Bradley i am really sad that you and your family did not have a fun experience at our 1946 Cabin Treehouse on Grand Lake. I really wish you had called when you arrived and were not happy with our Cabin i would have been happy to give you a full refund. You stayed the 3 days and told me via phone that the views were great and having a 2 slip dock was nice as well. When i heard you had insects i asked that you head to the local hardware store and purchase a bug zapper and i would reimburse you and i did via Venmo so that was settled i have the paper trail and you did state you received it 28.00. You might want to re visit your Venmo account. Our Cabin on Grand Lake has made more good memories that bad in the past 18 years i am sorry yours wasn’t as good! We have 5 gallons of purified water for each stay. I personally have cleaned the Cabin for years and did so for your family as well. When i made the beds I never saw any chips! I cleaned the sheets myself as i have for the past 18 years and have very few complaints. I did hire a cleaning company last year that i was not satisfied with after bad reviews so i am back to cleaning. I hope you give Grand Lake another try but please pass on our Cabin!

Great Views with poor transparency
As all have said on the reviews including the owner, views and dock were best part of the trip.
There were some frustrating aspects though. First, the address. After driving up 2.5 hr we were excited to get to the house. Unfortunately, the address given on VRBO was wrong. We spent almost two more hours driving around the lake. I had called the host and didn't hear back. We literally started canvasing the street to find the house-- trying to match the VRBO photos to the houses we saw. We finally heard from the owner that one number of the address was transposed. Ok, I could see that happening. Except when we got into the house the same, wrong address was on the house instruction book.
Next, the house was filthy. There was dirt and debris all over the floor. There were crumbs stuck to the cutting board. The dishes were all dirty. Everything we used in the kitchen had to be thoroughly washed before use. I texted the owner about this and she had someone out that afternoon. The cleaner said by the size of the house it should take her about 1.5hrs. It took 4.5 and she only left because she had a prior commitment.
The house is advertised as having two bathrooms. But the shower in the second is inoperable.
The clutter of furniture in the house is stifling. The dressers in the bedrooms are filled with random things-- socks, tape, scissors.
The cabin is advertised as rustic. But it isn't rustic. It's tired. The rugs are frayed and ripped, presenting a tripping hazard every time you walk by. The furniture is dusty, dirty and, frankly, uninviting. The space could be lovely if a third of the furniture was removed, the room was deep cleaned and new rugs were put down.
We realized that the only real pictures that we saw on vrbo were of the back, which is lovely. The pictures did not give a full understanding of the house.
After our first interaction of trying to get into the cabin, the owner was much more responsive. We have had a matter to settle since then and the owner has been fair and proactive.

Beautiful views!
Overall we had a great experience! The views of Grand Lake are amazing!!! Also it was great using the canoe’s and paddle boards. I highly recommend!
Only negatives: the place didn’t appear to have AC so it got very warm during the day. However it would cool down in the evening/night. Also there were some mosquitos and spiders inside the house.
Even with the negatives, we still had a great trip! The location and views were perfect.
Wow -marvelous cabin with incredible access to Grand Lake
We loved this cabin! It had great space - lots of outdoor options to enjoy the lake. The dock was perfect as we brought our sailboats. There were paddleboards, a kayak, a rowboat - so much fun! The porch was spectacular - the views were marvelous. We couldn't have enjoyed ourselves any more - nothing but praise for this wonderful cabin.

Disappointing
The location and setting of the property was great but it seriously needs a dumpster out front to get rid of all the stuff that has accumulated for 40 plus years at this cabin. I have friends that knew the previous owners and said that there is still crap from them in the crawl space and closets. The kitchen is overflowing with things just stuffed in the cabinets, the closets are piled high with bedspreads, clothes, and slippers. It was so dirty that I bought a mop and mopped and cleaned the house because I could not stand it anymore. The general consensus was it was NOT worth the money…

It's an older home with beautiful views. The dock made it easy to park a boat & our group also had access to property's kayaks, canoes ,and more. The wi-fi was not working while we were there, but it was really the last thing our group was worried about.

Great location, terrible maintenance and cleaning. Keep looking
While it’s true that the location and views are as advertised, many issues exist here. The dishwasher was non functional, the touted claw foot tub had no water, the lower level bath lacked hot water. The property as noted elsewhere is over filled with what can mostly described as castoffs.
The front door lock cannot be secured from the outside.
The grill was both non functional and terribly dirty. The dishes were crusted with food residue and insects. Nether the WiFi nor the dish tv worked. We alerted the owners and got only sporadic and unsatisfactory replies but no action.

Truly Dog-Friendly at Grand Lake
Wish we'd known: electronic lock was broken (didn't seem recent), dishwasher wasn’t working (taped sign asking hand washing only- was old), WiFi not working, slow leak from water cooler (had to adjust position so we could catch water to prevent water damage), many windows don't have screens so choose between roasting (heat wave when there) or mosquitoes, & there was construction next door (air compressor, compound miter saw, etc. going off at 7AM). Given previous reviews, we were prepared for clutter & mixed condition of things, just not all the above as well. Location is beautiful. Steeper walk to the ramp will be challenging for some (my 92-year-old mom did it once). It’s do-able but mobility-challenged should be prepared. Best things about this cabin are location on lake, generous supply of paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, & rowboat (plus gear), & that it’s truly dog friendly (rare). One of the 4 bedrooms on lower level only accessible from outside (with its own bathroom). Small things like some light bulbs need replacing, none of the electronic candles inside worked, & dishes/glasses are unevenly clean. Despite the clutter, there is a great deal of charm in the living /dining areas, decks, & dock with great views.
We don’t hold the construction noise against the owner or the leak (but if you say you’re sending someone & they never come...). We do feel the owner should have been more upfront (at least update the listing) to reflect no dishwasher, no lock (seems a safe area- but construction was occurring so tricky judgment call). Owner did disclose in advance modem wasn’t working but said a new modem would come the day after we arrived (and every day after- and it never did). We’ve stayed at many rental properties internationally, & each has their different quirks which we try to roll with. We just prefer full disclosure so we’re prepared ahead of time. There’s a low inventory of lakefront properties (especially this summer) that are dog-friendly & this one truly is. Our lab loved the water (yes, our teens jumped in too). Being on the water during the day & board/card games (brought our own) at night made for a wonderful family break. It’s clearly a well-loved home that would benefit from a little more investment, but has a “take me as I am” approach (it's surrounded by multi-million dollar homes on either side). Owner has offered us a credit (for above issues) but haven’t received it yet (2 weeks later). Will try to update this review.

Let them know the lock at front door was tricked and told them how it worked. Dishwasher did not work - there was a sign on it - we have installed a new one.
Internet modem was suppose to be delivered prior to their stay i was on the phone with Centrylink daily finally received it and its all working- i gave 2 day refund and it went to boulder a week ago. Sorry your stay was not the greatest but look on the bright side- views, lake, fish, dogs allowed, great sunsets, canoes, paddle boards, row boat and more!
Sorry your stay was not the best!

Like stepping back into the early years of Grand Lake and the west in general. Very enjoyable older style cabin with charm and history. Great location on the water with nice dock and water activities.
The cabin was just as listed in VRBO. When you walk in you immediately are drawn to the view above Grand Lake. SPECTACULAR!! This was a perfect place for a group of my friends and I who have been coming to Grand Lake for over 30 years to golf, boat and snowmobile in the Winter. This has been the best place we have stayed to date. We all loved it and had a great time...
Having spent my childhood staying at a classic, lakefront Grand Lake cabin every summer, this cabin brought back memories. This is the quintessential Grand Lake experience - a cabin that has the subtle smell of decades of fires burning in the fireplace, 80 years of children's height growth charts on the walls, and warm woolen blankets. Wonderful mountain memories wrapped all around you. This cabin, though, has by far the most spectacular views on the lake. The positioning of being perched above the trees, and the 180 degree views of the windows in the sunporch, truly take your breath away as you walk into the room. Wow! This is what Grand Lake is all about. The owners are clearly highly organized (their storage room with life jackets and wet suits is organized like a retail store!) and very kind. Wonderful memories were made the week that we stayed, and we hope to be lucky enough to book this cabin another time.
Cozy cabin with amazing sun room overlooking Grand Lake. Kids enjoyed paddle boarding and fishing from the dock. Close to RMNP where we saw amazing wildlife.
Wonderful old fashion cabin in a great location; it had everything we need to enjoy our week at the lake. We loved the views and access to the water. Dock was a little tricky for the kids because of splinters.
