The perfect Colorado newly rebuilt log cabin for family vacation or romantic getaway. October 21, 2020 the East Troublesome Fire burned our cabin along with many other cabins and home. After two years of hard work our cabin, Whispering Pines Lodge, is ready to be booked. Whispering Pines Lodge is bigger and better, close to Rocky Mountain National Park and is your perfect year around getaway providing many recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, hiking, 4-wheeling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to name a few. This get-a-way cabin is nestled in the mountains at 8,700 feet between Rocky Mountain National Park and Arapaho National Forest, where the elk and moose roam freely. This relaxing cabin is located by Sun Valley Lake (a private 22 acre non motorized lake), just a few miles North of Grand Lake, Colorado where you can use the owners boats and bikes. Relax enjoying all the comforts of home including fully equipped kitchen with dish washer, refrigerator, oven, stove, microwave, washer & dryer, coffee makers, toaster, and many more conveniences. The dining area has a large dining table that will seat 12 and an island counter that seats 4. Enjoy a good night sleep on our quality mattresses. The cabin features two levels with the main level having two bedrooms (the Elk room with King bed & bunk beds and the Bear room with a king bed.) The lower level has three bedrooms (The Moose room has a King bed with bunk beds. The Cowboy Bunkroom has a Queen bed, and a Full bed with a Twin bed above it. And the Mountain room has a queen bed and twin bunk beds. The cabin main level offers a wide open area with a loft which has a log futon couch and chair for extra guests. For an extra discount we can close off the lower area, where you would only use the main level. For your convenience and laundry needs washing supplies are provided. No smoking inside and no pets.
Those who enjoy the outdoors will truly appreciate our Whispering Pines Lodge. Watch Elk graze in the front meadow off our decks or occasionally see Mule deer. If you are lucky you may even see a Moose wander by the cabin or down by the lake. You can also drive in to RMNP and observe mule deer, big horn sheep, moose as well as elk and some time a bear. Hikers, bikers, motorcyclists, and ATV riders have access to many miles of trails in Arapaho National Forest and RMNP is for hikers only. For winter fun, enjoy 130 miles of groomed snowmobile trails just yards from our cabin. For snowmobile or RTV renting, "On the Trial Rentals" is just 1/2 mile from cabin. Winding River Resort, also 1/2 from cabin, offers horseback rides into RMNP.
Anglers have access to our private annually stocked, trout lake by our cabin (no fishing license required.) If river fishing is more your style the Colorado River is only 300 yards away. Other activities within a few minutes of the lodge include golfing, sledding, white water rafting, snow-skiing (Winter Park and Granby Ranch), snowmobiling and cross-country skiing, and hunting.

About the host

We (Ray, Corry, Therese and Erik), are owners of Whispering Pines Lodge. We purchased the cabin in December of 2014 because we love the rustic and the near by mountains. On October 21, 2020 our cabin burned to the ground from the East Troublesome Fire. Our guests were safely evacuated but our area was totally burned. It has been a hard two years rebuilding the cabin. We were very underinsured so we became the building contractor with the help of our family, doing a lot of the work ourselves and sub-contracting what we couldn't do. We received our Certificate of Occupancy November 28, 2022. Our new cabin is bigger and better. We hope our guest will understand that there are still things that need to be finished as the weather allows. PLEASE know that the area has construction going on with owners rebuilding their homes. A lot of the construction close to us should be done by summer.
Ray and Corry moved to Loveland, Colorado from Michigan in 1972. Ray worked for Eastman Kodak company for 33+ years and has since retired. Corry was a graphic artist and a stay at home mom to raise their five children. Corry has won the Loveland Valentine Re-mailing contest; Cachet 17 time and Valentine card 6 times. Corry volunteers at the House of Neighborly Service because she believes in helping the those in need. Ray & Corry and daughter, Therese and husband Erik, together bought the cabin as an investment and a place to relax. Therese and Erik were married June 2014. Therese is a dental assistant and Erik has his own trucking business. Therese and Erik welcomed their first child, a little girl, November 12, 2015. To help pay the expenses we decided to rent out our cabin when not in use. Ray and Corry enjoy going to the mountains plus to the cabin to do the cleaning after guests have stayed. Our favorite activity when enjoying the cabin is walking around the lake, looking for wildlife and enjoying the wildflowers.

Why they chose this property

The mountain scenery in Grand Lake is the most beautiful in all of Colorado. And it is so peaceful in the Sun Valley Lake area that a person can forget all their troubles. We love this cabin because we did the rebuild of this cabin design, in an area with beautiful vistas and off the beaten path of everyday life.

What makes this property unique

This newly rebuilt cabin offers wide open spaces for large families to gather. Has two levels with a loft and a walkout lower level for easy access to Sun Valley Lake dock area. CABIN MAIN LEVEL: has a full kitchen with large dining area with seating for 12 around the table and 4 at island counter, a 65" television in the family room with couch, loveseat and recliner, sliding glass door which goes to the deck with a BBQ grill, table 4-chairs and lounge couch/chairs, has two bedrooms (one sleeps 4 and one sleeps 2) has a laundry area with full stacked washer and dryer and 1/2 bath for general bathroom use.
CABIN LOWER LEVEL has open area wet bar/kitchen with sink, microwave, side by side refrigerator freezer with ice and water from door, toaster, coffee maker, table with four chairs, large sectional with recliners, 65" TV, Propane gas fireplace, walkout door to lake. Has three bedrooms (one sleeps 4, one sleeps 5, and one sleeps 4).
Every bedroom has it's own bathroom except the lower common bathroom is shared with the Cowboy bunkroom. Every room has a TV with U-Tube TV hook ups.
OUTSIDE Cabin has a 6' wide front entry porch with glider and 2 chairs, porch wraps around to the side deck/porch which is 10' wide with BBQ grill, table with 4-chairs, lounge couch and chair and great view of mountains and lake.
One of my favorite things is relaxing on the front porch glider with a glass of wine after a full day of activities, watching the hummingbirds and the sun going down...happiness!
