About Corry McDowell

We (Ray, Corry, Therese and Erik), are owners of Whispering Pines Lodge. We purchased the cabin in December of 2014 because we love the rustic and the near by mountains. Ray and Corry moved to Loveland, Colorado from Michigan in 1972. Ray worked for Eastman Kodak company for 33+ years and has since retired and is driving school bus for Loveland's school district. Corry was a graphic artist and a stay at home mom to raise their five children. Corry has won the Loveland Re-mailing Valentine contest; Cachet 13 time and Valentine card 5 times. Corry volunteers at the House of Neighborly Service because she believes in helping the those in need. Ray & Corry and daughter, Therese and husband Erik, together bought the cabin as an investment and a place to relax. Therese and Erik were married June 2014. Therese is a dental assistant with Comfort Dental and Erik has his own trucking business. Therese and Erik welcomed their first child, a little girl, November 12, 2015. To help pay the expenses we decided to rent out our cabin when not in use. Ray and Corry enjoy going to the mountains plus to the cabin to do the cleaning after guests have stayed

Corry McDowell purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Corry McDowell chose Northwest

The mountain scenery in Grand Lake is the most beautiful in all of Colorado. And it is so peaceful in the Sun Valley Lake area that a person can forget all their troubles. We love this cabin because of it's authentic log cabin design, beautiful vistas and off the beaten path of everyday life. Yet it offers so many activities that we do not do back in Loveland.

What makes this cabin unique

We fell in love with Rocky Mountain Lodge (we renamed it Whispering Pines Lodge) because of its rustic look, with the hand scraped logs, the log furniture and it's location in the Colorado mountains. It has all the modern conveniences of home but away from the hustle and bustle of home. We have made many up-grades since we first bought the lodge. Adding granite counter tops in the kitchen and bathrooms, rebuilding one of the staircases and walling it in to make the main level bedroom private. Also remodeled one bathroom installing a walk-in shower. We have up-graded the mattresses and have bought new sofa bed with matching loveseat and recliner.

Better than we expected, home has everything you need, washer/dryer, kitchen, pots/pans, utensils, etc. Very cozy and warm home, bedrooms and beds were great, family area was very comfortable. The area is gorgeous, adjacent to the western entrance to Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park, and just three miles from the town of Grand Lake. A 2 minute walk from the private lake which has plenty of fish and good fishing. Loved the bicycles and canoe, swings for the kids, and lots of deer and moose in the area. Also appreciated the hummingbird feeder!

Our stay was perfect and we hope to do it again soon, all four adults and five kids absolutely loved it.

Perfect Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend celebrating New Years at this property, and it was perfect for our group of 8. Everyone had a bed, there was plenty of room, it was clean, the area is beautiful & quiet and the Grand Lake town is close by. The property owners did a great job of ensuring that we were informed and had everything that we needed. The property has the perfect log cabin feel that we were looking for when spending time in the mountains. We would certainly stay again!

Great location, very nice cabin. Would give it a 4.5 rating.

  • 4 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay. We were two miles by car to RMNP entrance but only about a half mile from a hiking trail into the park. The kitchen was well stocked the bathrooms and kitchen were all newly remodeled. It was a very clean and roomy yet cozy cabin. Our only complaint would be the mattresses on our beds. The linens were quite nice but the mattresses had noticeable dips in them. We loved the location and amenities. Our wives particularly were impressed with how clean the cabin was.

The owners were quick to answer any prestay questions and quick to return the damage deposit. The cabin was well stocked with firewood and outdoor toys. All and all a very relaxing and pleasing stay and we have no problem recommending the cabin.

We have it a 4 star rating because of the beds, plus we were there the last week of the month and the wifi had reached its data limit so we had poor coverage. Also it'd be nice to have a blue ray player instead of just dvd. It's very inexpensive and takes let's you take advantage of the nice hdtv..

Owner's Response: We appreciate our guest's reviews and comments. We have replaced the king mattress in November and have also purchased a blue ray player. Thanks, Whispering Pines Lodge owners

Great vacation on the quiet side of RMNP

  • 4 of 5

This is a wonderful house for families with children. The living area is a bit small for 10 people, but the dining area is great. The cabin is extremely well equipped with kitchen supplies, toys and books for children and the outdoor equipment is great for everyone. The only thing was I thought the house was right on the lake, but it is a few cabins away. The park is very close by and we had a wonderful time viewing wild life. The family who own the cabin are very helpful with anything that is needed.
