Half Moon Bay voters approved a 3% increase in the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) rate.
This new rate increases the City’s Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) rate on transient guests, as
collected by lodging providers, from 12% to 14% on July 1, 2021, and to 15% on July 1, 2022.
The City would like to provide the following guidance regarding room reservations that were
made prior to July 1, 2021:
1. Bookings Paid Prior to July 1, 2021:
Please note that payments on bookings made prior to July 1, 2021, where the occupancy
takes place after July 1, are subject to the 14% tax rate. If the 12% rate was paid at the
time of booking, the additional 2% tax is due prior to vacating the lodging property.
This 2% additional tax represents the amount that must be collected to be consistent
with the ordinance.
