Overview

About the property

Two bedroom cottage, just steps from the beach

Come visit us at Steelhead Run offering panoramic views of the sunsets on Lake Erie. You will find this two bedroom cottage to be quite comfortable offering all the utility of a larger home. We have another cottage next door, see VRBO #336835. When you arrive you will find yourself nestled between Lake Erie and Chautauqua Creek on 7 forested acres. Both features can be accessed in less than a 200 foot walk from the cottage. On the beach you can spend time hunting for beach glass and driftwood, or take the half-mile walk along the beach to Barcelona Harbor area to enjoy a bit to eat, a cocktail, or even purchase a smoked fish at the fish market. Barcelona Harbor also offers a marina and a public launching facility to access Lake Erie. Do you want to go fishing? Take a charter out of the harbor, or try and hit the world renowned Steelhead fishery found in Chautauqua Creek. Don’t worry if Lake Erie is a little too rough on that day for boating. Make a trip to any one of the four inland lakes a short drive from the cottage. Chautauqua Lake is the largest and closest (5mi.) inland lake to the cottage. Chautauqua Lake offers many attractions available by boat that includes, The Chautauqua Institution, Midway Amusement Park, Long Point State Park, shopping, and numerous restaurant/bar establishments. There is truly something for everyone here.

Consider a wine tour if you’re looking to venture away from the lake for a bit. Lake Erie Wine Country, located in the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies, extends roughly 45 miles from Silver Creek, New York to North East, Pennsylvania. At the end of 2011, it has become home to over 24 commercial and estate wineries. Other attractions within arms reach include Niagara Falls, restaurants, ski resorts, snowmobile trails, nature trails, golf courses, inland lakes, shopping, and a casino, most in less than a 30 mile radius. Additionally, one can find cultural stimulation at Chautauqua Institution. Here you can enjoy their symphony, concerts, speaking venues and theater performances.

As a courtesy to the neighboring cottage, please respect the maximum number of guests in our cottages. We do understand that our guests want to share the experience of Steelhead Run with friends and family. Visitors are certainly welcome, but please limit their numbers to insure that there is minimal disturbance to the neighbors.

If you are looking for an event location, or anticipate large group size please consider reserving both cottages. We have successfully accommodated events such as small family reunions, church retreats, and even professional photo shoots.

We are located ½ mile from the New York State Thruway (I-90), Exit 60. From here, you will find that it’s a quick ride to and from the Buffalo or Erie International Airports.

About David Spann

This property has been in our family since the late 60’s. My wife and I built a home on here in 1998. This is where we continue to raise our children, Anthony and Morgan.

David Spann purchased this cottage in 2012

Why David Spann chose Chautauqua-Allegheny

We chose to build here to provide visitors with actual beachfront access. Much of the Lake Erie shoreline is elevated high on bluffs making it quite inaccessible. While staying here, you will find access to the lake very easy and the beach to be quite extensive.

What makes this cottage unique

Whether you’re an experienced steelheader or beginner we can accommodate you. We have teamed up with Chrome Run Guide Service. Any anglers new to the fishery can take advantage of learning expert techniques necessary for landing steelhead. Call now for special rates on fishing packages. Remember, Chautauqua Creek is in the middle of 'Steelhead Alley' where anglers can head in either direction to fish other streams. Chautauqua Creek has one of the largest catch rates of Steelhead in 'Steelhead Alley'. It has been calculated that fishing success equals 2.5 fish/hr. of fishing effort.

Perfect Getaway! Fantastic host.

We loved our weekend getaway at your cabin. The pictures do not do this place justice. It's so peaceful and serene. Fishing was great too. We enjoyed lakefront campfires and swimming in the lake. Perfect Father's day weekend!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for returning again this summer. We enjoy sharing all of the property has to offer. As you noticed we take pride in keeping the cottages clean and in great working order. The common area near the beach is constantly maintained and upgraded when necessary. I can't control the fishing, but I glad it was good! See you again soon, Dave

My wife and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary and it was excellent. Perfect location on the beach with fire pit, grill, and adirondack chairs. Interior was clean and spacious. Kitchen fully stocked. Secluded yet close to wineries. Close enough to hear the waves!

Owner's Response: Perfect! I'm happy that you found us and able to celebrate your new marriage at Steelhead Run. Yes, the wineries here are great. There are also many other things to see and do as you noticed. Sometimes guests are happy never leaving Steelhead Run at all, something for everyone here. Thanks, Dave

Gem on the beach.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful beach front home on the lake. The home left nothing out from the furnishings to the decorations. It was super clean and had plenty of room. The outside was great being that close to the beach just wish the weather was a little better.

Owner's Response: Yes, I wish you had better weather as well. When the wind cranks up on Lake Erie it can be brutal at times. I am glad that you were able to find comfort in the cottage regardless. Believe it or not. I do have some guests that visit us seeking inclement weather opportunities. Fortunately, inclement weather days are far fewer that the nice ones. Hope to have you back soon, Dave

Perfect secluded getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed a wonderful Labor Day weekend at Driftwood Cottage. Everyone loved the setting and being right at the beach, we took long walks and found a few really nice pieces of beach glass. The cottage was lovely, comfortable and had everything we needed. Campfires, a cookout, the porch to enjoy with a glass of wine was all everyone needed for a relaxing weekend. We'd love to return...thank you!
