About the property

Two bedroom cottage, just steps from the beach

Come visit us at Steelhead Run offering panoramic views of the sunsets on Lake Erie. You will find this two bedroom cottage to be quite comfortable offering all the utility of a larger home. We have another cottage next door, see VRBO #336835. When you arrive you will find yourself nestled between Lake Erie and Chautauqua Creek on 7 forested acres. Both features can be accessed in less than a 200 foot walk from the cottage. On the beach you can spend time hunting for beach glass and driftwood, or take the half-mile walk along the beach to Barcelona Harbor area to enjoy a bit to eat, a cocktail, or even purchase a smoked fish at the fish market. Barcelona Harbor also offers a marina and a public launching facility to access Lake Erie. Do you want to go fishing? Take a charter out of the harbor, or try and hit the world renowned Steelhead fishery found in Chautauqua Creek. Don’t worry if Lake Erie is a little too rough on that day for boating. Make a trip to any one of the four inland lakes a short drive from the cottage. Chautauqua Lake is the largest and closest (5mi.) inland lake to the cottage. Chautauqua Lake offers many attractions available by boat that includes, The Chautauqua Institution, Midway Amusement Park, Long Point State Park, shopping, and numerous restaurant/bar establishments. There is truly something for everyone here.

Consider a wine tour if you’re looking to venture away from the lake for a bit. Lake Erie Wine Country, located in the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies, extends roughly 45 miles from Silver Creek, New York to North East, Pennsylvania. At the end of 2011, it has become home to over 24 commercial and estate wineries. Other attractions within arms reach include Niagara Falls, restaurants, ski resorts, snowmobile trails, nature trails, golf courses, inland lakes, shopping, and a casino, most in less than a 30 mile radius. Additionally, one can find cultural stimulation at Chautauqua Institution. Here you can enjoy their symphony, concerts, speaking venues and theater performances.

As a courtesy to the neighboring cottage, please respect the maximum number of guests in our cottages. We do understand that our guests want to share the experience of Steelhead Run with friends and family. Visitors are certainly welcome, but please limit their numbers to insure that there is minimal disturbance to the neighbors.

If you are looking for an event location, or anticipate large group size please consider reserving both cottages. We have successfully accommodated events such as small family reunions, church retreats, and even professional photo shoots.

We are located ½ mile from the New York State Thruway (I-90), Exit 60. From here, you will find that it’s a quick ride to and from the Buffalo or Erie International Airports.

About David Spann

This property has been in our family since the late 60’s. My wife and I built a home on here in 1998. This is where we continue to raise our children, Anthony and Morgan.

David Spann purchased this cottage in 2012

Why David Spann chose Chautauqua-Allegheny

We chose to build here to provide visitors with actual beachfront access. Much of the Lake Erie shoreline is elevated high on bluffs making it quite inaccessible. While staying here, you will find access to the lake very easy and the beach to be quite extensive.

What makes this cottage unique

Whether you’re an experienced steelheader or beginner we can accommodate you. We have teamed up with Chrome Run Guide Service. Any anglers new to the fishery can take advantage of learning expert techniques necessary for landing steelhead. Call now for special rates on fishing packages. Remember, Chautauqua Creek is in the middle of 'Steelhead Alley' where anglers can head in either direction to fish other streams. Chautauqua Creek has one of the largest catch rates of Steelhead in 'Steelhead Alley'. It has been calculated that fishing success equals 2.5 fish/hr. of fishing effort.

Nicer than the photos show.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at Driftwood cottage. Because we were preparing a large meal we brought our own cookware but I really think we could have managed with what was there. Overall it was very micely equipped.

Just like heaven

  • 5 of 5

This place is everything the pictures show and more. We had a wonderful relaxing "last summer weekend." The view is amazing, the area around the cabins is so quiet (at least until we got there with our 3 boys) and the cabin is comfortable and feels like home. Thanks for everything Dave!

A quiet get away

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful setting, like a photo from a magazine.

Clean and comfortable cabin with a bottle of local wine waiting for us upon arrival.

David Spann was helpful and responsive to our calls and emails prior to our arrival and even came by on our first day to make sure all was well.

The area is away from the rush, rush of a busy city or over-run vacation spot which made it exactly what we were looking for.

A porch with rockers and gliders, a sheltered tree-covered lawn for the kids to run about safely, a firepit and grills for the men, the beach/shoreline for us all...

I am ready for a return visit.

AWESOME AGAIN!!

  • 5 of 5

As always, Steelhead Run has provided us with a wonderful family friendly getaway. The cottages are beautiful, clean and fully equipped and the property is well maintained and absolutely gorgeous. The Spann family is welcoming, friendly and treats you like family. They go above and beyond to make your stay one to remember. We have been coming for the last several years and plan to continue for years to come. Steelhead Run is not only an annual summer destination but a great weekend retreat in the fall or winter. We would recommend it to all!!!
