Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Come visit us at Steelhead Run offering panoramic views of the sunsets on Lake Erie. You will find this one bedroom cottage to be quite comfortable offering all the utility of a smaller home. We have another cottage next door, see VRBO #427161. When you arrive you will find yourself nestled between Lake Erie and Chautauqua Creek on 7 forested acres. Both features can be accessed in less than a 200 foot walk from the cottage. On the beach you can spend time hunting for beach glass and driftwood, or take the half-mile walk along the beach to Barcelona Harbor area to enjoy a bit to eat, a cocktail, or even purchase a smoked fish at the fish market. Barcelona Harbor also offers a marina and a public launching facility to access Lake Erie. Do you want to go fishing? Take a charter out of the harbor, or try and hit the world renowned Steelhead fishery found in Chautauqua Creek. Don’t worry if Lake Erie is a little too rough on that day for boating. Make a trip to any one of the four inland lakes a short drive from the cottage. Chautauqua Lake is the largest and closest (5mi.) inland lake to the cottage. Chautauqua Lake offers many attractions available by boat that includes, The Chautauqua Institution, Midway Amusement Park, Long Point State Park, shopping, and numerous restaurant/bar establishments. There is truly something for everyone here.

Consider a wine tour if you’re looking to venture away from the lake for a bit. Lake Erie Wine Country, located in the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies, extends roughly 45 miles from Silver Creek, New York to North East, Pennsylvania. At the end of 2011, it has become home to over 24 commercial and estate wineries. Other attractions within arms reach include Niagara Falls, restaurants, ski resorts, snowmobile trails, nature trails, golf courses, inland lakes, shopping, and a casino, most in less than a 30 mile radius. Additionally, one can find cultural stimulation at Chautauqua Institution. Here you can enjoy their symphony, concerts, speaking venues and theater performances.

As a courtesy to the neighboring cottage, please respect the maximum number of guests in our cottages. We do understand that our guests want to share the experience of Steelhead Run with friends and family. Visitors are certainly welcome, but please limit their numbers to insure that there is minimal disturbance to the neighbors.

If you are looking for an event location, or anticipate large group size please consider reserving both cottages. We have successfully accommodated events such as small family reunions, church retreats, and even professional photo shoots.

We are located ½ mile from the New York State Thruway (I-90), Exit 60. From here, you will find that it’s a quick ride to and from the Buffalo or Erie International Airports.

About David Spann

This property has been in our family since the late 60’s. My wife and I built a home on here in 1998. This is where we continue to raise our children, Anthony and Morgan.

David Spann purchased this cottage in 2011

Why David Spann chose Chautauqua-Allegheny

We chose to build here to provide visitors with actual beachfront access. Much of the Lake Erie shoreline is elevated high on bluffs making it quite inaccessible. While staying here, you will find access to the lake very easy and the beach to be quite extensive.

What makes this cottage unique

Whether you’re an experienced steelheader or beginner we can accommodate you. We have teamed up with Chrome Run Guide Service. Any anglers new to the fishery can take advantage of learning expert techniques necessary for landing steelhead. Call now for special rates on fishing packages. Remember, Chautauqua Creek is in the middle of 'Steelhead Alley' where anglers can head in either direction to fish other streams. Chautauqua Creek has one of the largest catch rates of Steelhead in 'Steelhead Alley'. It has been calculated that fishing success equals 2.5 fish/hr. of fishing effort.

Perfect Property for a Relaxing Getway

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our time at this property immensely. We found the cabin clean and comfortable with all of the creature comforts we needed. You can't beat the location as it is just steps from the water, comfortable chairs, a chair swing, and the fire pit! We hope to be back again soon!

Tranquility at its best.

  • 5 of 5

This charming lake front cottage is a must for a relaxing getaway. We spent a week at Sunset Cottage and could easily have stayed longer. My husband and I travel with our fur kids. They had a wonderful time as well exploring the walking trails by the creek and learning how to swim in the Lake with their new flotation vests. David is the perfect host and has thought of everything to make the stay most comfortable. The cabin was clean and well appointed. Our neighbors Carol, Gerry and their pups were super folks. We took along some fire wood and enjoyed a bonfire by the Lake. What a view, and the sunsets are incredible!! We walked the beach every day, rain, wind or shine. The Main Diner in town is a great place to start the day for breakfast. Mojo's for authentic Mexican was yummy and served up water for our pups while we dined outside. We purchased fresh perch at the fishery just down the street, attended two auctions, and enjoyed driving through the wine country that surrounds Chautauqua Co. There is something here for everyone. It's definitely the most relaxed we have ever been on vacation and the closest to the beach. No busy streets, bright lights or car alarms blaring here. Plenty of fresh air, starry nights, sparkling beach glass, and the sweet sound of distant train whistles now and then. We are hoping to return very soon.

A million thanks David! Kim, Tim, Marshall & Woody

Cabin was great, scenery of the Lake just awesome !

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was great. The layout was nice. The fire pit was perfect for a bonfire with the Lake as a background watching the sun set.

Doesn't get any better!

Fishing was tough due to weather, but hard to beat with Chautauqua Creek and the Lake within a short walk! No driving needed to have a great time here!!!!!
