Our country home is situated on 11.5 private acres of foothill countryside. Gorgeous in any season, you will cool off in the pool from Memorial Day through September, and warm up in the outdoor covered hot tub (on the deck right outside the master bedroom,) any time, even in the rain. There is Dish TV/DVD/VCR in the master bedroom and the downstairs family room. The family room also has ping pong, a Kareoke machine, many games and puzzles, and an extra optional queen Aerobed.
On the main floor are the master suite with a king bed, and another bedroom with a queen bed and a small TV showing only videos - with videos suitable for children. The great room, with wood burning stove is comfortable for gathering all the guests. The kitchen, well stocked for the cook, will allow you to provide impressive meals. Downstairs, are two more bedrooms, a bathroom, and the family room. The larger downstairs bedroom has a king bed, and two twin beds. The smaller downstairs bedroom has a queen bed.
Outside the master bedroom and the great room is a very large deck with hot tub, wrought iron table and chairs, Adirondack chairs, and gas grill. On the lower deck, there is a shaded swing chair outside the large bedroom door perfect for a peaceful morning cup of coffee and a book. Nighttime stargazing is spectacular especially when you lie on the foam mats located in the living room. A large fenced-in area adjacent to the house can be used for a dog run; but in the dry seasons, you must be careful about burs and foxtails. Also outside, are 3 flat camping platforms and a tree house for those who want to get even closer to nature for sleeping, drawing, or meditation.
Access to the property is at the end of a private road. The last .8 mile is a gravel and then bumpy dirt road. One must go slowly on this part of the drive, but my car is a Prius and I've had no problems with it due to the road when driving slowly. Because it can be tricky to find, my property manager will meet you at a convenient spot several miles away, shepherd you into the property and acquaint you with the house. You will feel very much in the country at the house. The closest neighbor has horses, a donkey, and a peacock. Although the feeling there is very rural and unmanicured, you are only about 10 minutes from convenience stores in Diamond Springs or Somerset, and about 20 minutes to supermarkets, a movie theater, and the center of Placerville.
If you visit for just a weekend you probably won't want to leave, but if you do, or are here for longer, try wine tasting in the town of Fair Play, the October Apple Hill festival 30 minutes away in Camino, white water rafting from Coloma, hiking to the Cosumnes River Gorge, or sledding in winter near Sly Lake. (We rarely have snow here, but driving only 15 minutes will provide fun in the snow in the winter.)
- $250/night base rate for 1 bedroom + $35/each extra bedroom or each extra 1-2 people up to $390/night, as when the family room is used as an extra bedroom with the Queen Aerobed. For stays of 5+ nights the daily rate will be discounted, with deeper discounts the more nights you rent.
- 2 night minimum except June - August and holidays when there is a 4-5 night minimum.
- Discounted rate for 5+ nights using all bedrooms
- Other fees: $190 cleaning fee, $50/dog for whole stay, 10% El Dorado County Occupancy Tax, 3-3.4% fee if you choose not to pay by check. A refundable security deposit of $500 is required.

We had 2 families, plus my elderly mother stay here between Xmas and New Year's. Great place for a large group! Lots of space and beds for everyone (we had 8 people). The setting is very peaceful, and with the large windows in the living room it is a nice place to just hang out. It's a little "off the beaten path," but that's part of what makes it nice. The house is kept up well, and the kitchen is stocked with more pots/pans, gadgets than any other rental we've ever stayed at. There is even an electric hot water kettle for tea drinkers - unusual to find one of those in a rental! We brought my Newfoundland dog as well, and he and I enjoyed taking walks everyday along the gravel roads. We would definitely rent this house again.
Sylvia, I’m so glad your family had a good time at Lofty Haven. We would be happy to welcome you back.
We had an amazing stay at your place, it was very comfortable and spacious. The best was the views and wildlife.
I'm very glad to know you and your group had a good time! Edie
A very unique place in the middle of beautiful nature
We spent an awesome week with our children at Edie's place. The house is incredibly nice with pool and everything you need to rest including an amazing view from the deck making you dive into gorgious nature during your meals, naps... The Californian oaks and wild life around (including deers and all sort of birds) make you feel in a very special unique place in the middle of true beautiful nature. The surroundings are also very nice for leisures activities (antique shops at Placerville, gold mine and gold rush cities, wineries, aquatic sport). A unique peaceful place to stay and enjoy.
Eleonore, I'm so glad you and your family enjoyed yourself at my personal favorite place. It is very gratifying to share it, and I would love to welcome you back in the future. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Pictures do not do this place justice. Its amazing
We loved our stay. Edie and Elaine were wonderful to work with. I met up with Elaine who personally escorted us to this true haven. Once there we were completely impressed. Beautiful and spacious rooms, kitchen and living room with huge windows overlooking an amazing view. The family room downstairs was also very well kept and had lots of fun karaeoking to our favorite songs. Our favorite part was the backyard. Beautiful pool overlooking an amazing view.
Edie thank you for having us. The pictures online truly dont do this place justice. I am in love with your home and plan on coming back before the end of summer!
Linda, I'm so glad to hear that your group enjoyed themselves at Lofty Haven. I must say I do hear that about the pictures and I'm not sure how to make them better represent the place. FYI: Labor Day weekend is still available this year. But I'm only excepting 4+ nights for the holiday weekend. I will be glad to welcome your group back.
We had a wonderful say at the lofty haven house! There was 8 of us, plenty of room/space for all! The house was well kept. One thing to be aware of, the dirt road leading up to the house is pretty bumpy. But you're out in the woods, we didn't expect a paved road. Other than that there was no complaints about the house. The deck is absolutely wonderful to lay out on and soak up some sun!
About half way between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe, we are about twenty minutes from the Fairplay area Wineries. (I'll let you know my favorites if you ask.) Apple Hill in Camino, is about a half hour away. Their yummy Harvest festival is in October. Whitewater rafting trips on the south fork of the American river are available in season from Coloma, which is about 35 minutes away. About 20 minutes from here there is a spectacular hike into a portion of the Cosumnes river where rock climbers come to climb up a sheer face. Placerville's Oldtown, known in the gold rush days as 'Hangtown,' is loaded with loaded with restaurants, shops, and antiques.
