【 About Momiji-an 】 "Momiji-an" is one of the properties managed by Kyo Machiya Miyabi in the Kiyomizu area. Designed by renowned Kyoto-based architect Geoffrey P. Moussas, a large traditional Kyoto townhouse was meticulously divided into three independent Machiya units: Bairin-an, Shofu-an, and Momiji-an.
This charming two-story residence allows you to experience the authentic layout of a traditional townhouse. While we are committed to preserving the traditional architectural techniques handed down through the centuries, we also prioritize modern comfort. The house is fully equipped with a modern bath and shower room, high-tech toilet, kitchen, and floor heating, creating a perfect balance between "old-world charm" and "modern convenience."
The bathroom is a highlight, featuring large windows that offer a beautiful, open feeling. Rest assured, your privacy is fully protected, as it is designed so that no one can see in from the outside. You can relax and unwind in complete comfort.
【 About the Location 】 "Momiji-an" is ideally situated right at the foot of the World Heritage site, Kiyomizu Temple. You can enjoy a pleasant stroll to iconic spots like Ninenzaka, Yasaka Shrine, and Gion—the most famous Geisha district—while soaking in the beautiful atmosphere of Kyoto.
While it is exceptionally convenient for exploring the city, the house itself is tucked away in a quiet residential lane, serving as a peaceful sanctuary. After a busy day of sightseeing, you can return to this serene spot and experience the authentic, calm lifestyle of a local.
With city buses or rental bikes, you can reach most of Kyoto's famous sites within 30 minutes. We look forward to welcoming you to this special place where convenience meets tranquility.

Why they chose this property
We could see a glitter of traditional atmosphere on the roof, wooden pillars, sliding doors or small gardens inside the house. The townhouse is called Machiya and this house strongly stimulated us to restore for living. Machiya used to be townhouses or shops for the merchants in the 17 th century. Not only temples and shrines, but machiya stay is an attractive experience for all who want to know more about Kyoto ' life style and its culture.
