Hiding behind the simple colonial facade, Casa Noel will quickly become your refuge from the busy city life. The tall entry doors reveal a view through the house to the central courtyard and from there to the rear garden. Traditional high ceilings and pasta tile floors combine with modern touches in a perfect blend of comfort and old Mexico.

The comfortable living room includes a flat screen HD television with cable and dvd player. The cable service includes English language news, sports and movie channels, along with extensive Spanish language selections. Casa Noel is also equipped with high speed wireless internet access.

A second living space is adjacent to the central courtyard, opening through the original wood archway to this bright and airy space. Sit here in the morning at the café table with your coffee and enjoy breakfast to the sounds of birds in the nearby trees.

The all new, much larger and modern kitchen opens off the central courtyard as well. Broad doors and windows bring in cooling breezes and light filtered through the courtyard plantings.

The dining room with seating for eight and fully equipped kitchen open onto a covered outdoor terrace leading to the gardens featuring a pool set amidst beautiful tropical plantings. A refreshing outdoor shower is located near the pool. Enjoy the sun in the garden surrounding the pool, or rest in the shade of the terrace.

The home includes three stunning bedrooms with 17 foot ceilings featuring the original pasta tile floors. New queen size beds, ceiling fans and air conditioning in each bedroom assure your comfort. The all new master bedroom features an en-suite bathroom with a delightful rainfall shower and dual sinks. The bedroom opens onto the quiet rear courtyard through high doors with a view of the pool and gardens, and offers complete privacy from the rest of the house.

Within a block of Casa Noel you will find multiple options for dining out, from a traditional cocina economica to various ethnic cuisines. Just two blocks away on Paseo Montejo you will find many restaurant and shopping options, along with several interesting museums. The daily Santa Ana market has a broad selection of meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a small supermarket is nearby as well.

Our local property manager speaks excellent English. She and her staff can arrange nearly any additional service you may need, including transportation, child care, travel information, shopping, massage or a cook. You may want the unique experience of a private cooking lesson for your party focused on local Yucatecan cuisine.

We invite your family to make our home your home in the beautiful colonial heart of Merida and the Yucatan peninsula.

Why Rex Noel chose Centro

Merida is truly authentic Mexico. The city itself and the surrounding countryside take us back to a more tranquil time when friends and family are more important than.... well, anything. The local people are warm, friendly and welcoming. We wander the streets at all hours in complete safety. And our time here leaves us relaxed and ready to face our busy lives again.

What makes this house unique

The location of Casa Noel is nearly perfect. On a quiet, bus free street, yet very close to so much of the city life that attracted us to Merida. The Paseo Montejo is just two blocks away with numerous restaurants and shops. Our local Santa Ana market offers a true Mexican shopping experience along with many of the services we have needed as homeowners and is just three blocks away. And we are within an easy 15 minute walk of the Plaza Grande yet discreetly removed from the noise and bustle of that area.

And when you choose to remain home and relax, the quiet comfort of our home, gardens and outdoor living spaces will allow you to rest, refresh and recharge.

Great location, beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

Casa Noel is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures - very spacious and well-equipped with historical charm. We had a great stay there and found the team easy to coordinate with. The location is also great - easy walking distance to Plaza Grande, but also far enough away to be pretty quiet. Also, the pool in the back was a great feature for hot days. As others have noted, the house does lack privacy - the walls don't reach the ceilings in some (if not all) of the bedrooms. Some of the doors are also creaky and hard (read: loud) to close, so one person getting up at night can wake up others sleeping nearby. Also, just a warning that if you plan to run AC constantly, your bill will be much higher than ours was, which seemed slightly higher than rates in the U.S. All in all, I highly recommend Casa Noel - it is beautiful!

Stunning Colonial

  • 5 of 5

My husband, son, mother and I just returned from staying at Casa Noel for 8 days. The house is a lovely old colonial with spacious rooms, kitchen, and traditional pasta tiles. The house is long, with an open air courtyard which allows breezes to flow from one end of the house to the other. Most rooms have ceiling fans, and all the bedrooms have AC. My mother, who is 83, and uses a walker to get around could easily navigate the one level house.

The house really has everything you would need, as if it were your own home. We were able to host a small gathering of friends for dinner on two occasions while at the house. It also has a very nice pool to cool off in after some of the hot Merida days.

Casa Noel is located two blocks from the Paseo, a few blocks from Santa Ana square and a 10 minute walk to Plaza Grande where we took in the matinee at the symphony for $15/seat.

I highly recommend Casa Noel to anyone visiting or returning to Merida who is looking for a great place to stay.

Our home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our experience at Casa Noel... it was our home away from home for a week. We are a family of 6 (4 kids under the age of 10). The house was very spacious for our large family. Our kids didn't want to come home. When we arrived the water wasn't working. However, the property manager immediately came to the house to assist and had a plumber to the house very quickly. The property manager was very quick to respond, which was much appreciated. We highly recommend staying at this home!

Beautiful home but bad experience with water drainage and infested with bugs

  • 1 of 5

With two little ones, my husband and I couldn't afford to stay in this house. With just one night, we woke up with rashes, and bug bites. We encountered Brown water from the shower. The drainage in the bathroom shower didn't work and the water was getting accumulated in the shower. The water from the shower also coming from the sides. This resulted in our personal items getting wet. Bugs found in the bed covers! More bugs than usual. Our family also rented another HomeAway property on the same time period and we didn't have any of these problems. We ended up having to stay on a hotel and pay $100 per night, for the remaininder of our 4 day stay. The sad thing was the lack of customer service and hospitality from the property manager and the property owner. When the property manager met us at the house to get the house keys, the only thing that she said was "okay, who is giving me the keys" we were appalled by the hospitality and customer service. I have all the conversations documented with the property manager and the property homeowner via HomeAway and would be happy to share, with anyone that is interested.

Owner's Response: We are truly sorry our guest had a terrible visit. They had the misfortune to arrive the same day as a major tropical storm. The rainfall was extremely heavy for days and no doubt spoiled their plans. She first emailed me on the evening of the second day of her stay during the height of the storm. Within two hours and despite the weather, our manager was at the door. We fully intended to make things right, or if we couldn't, to find alternate lodging for her party. Andrea, my manager, has many other properties and we would have gladly relocated her or found a hotel and refunded her entire rent. But Andrea found the front door bolted from the inside, and no one answered the door or their phones. So they really refused to let us help, although we made great efforts to respond. Immediately upon their departure the next morning, Andrea and her housekeepers investigated the purported issues. The water ran clear and clean and we have photographs to show this. Casa Noel has city water and an entirely new pressure water system inside the house and we are not aware of any similar problems ever. There were absolutely no insects in the bedding that morning. All of our bedding is washed weekly during longer stays and after every guest, using bleach and hot water, including the top covers (not even hotels do that). We had a guest check out the day before, who had a pleasant stay, so the bedding was actually washed the day of this guest's arrival. There simply was no evidence of insects in the bedding or elsewhere in the home. A recent review specifically mentioned how remarkably mosquito free our home was; please read it. Also, the whole house is screened, and we have a professional service treat for pests regularly. Mosquitoes are everywhere in Merida in this rainy season, but not in Casa Noel. One of the great features of our home is the large central courtyard, which has open, screened skylights, and the screened courtyard abutting the master bedroom. These allow light and cooling breezes to penetrate the home. But the downside is that in heavy downpours, water can be slow to drain from the courtyards. I believe this was the source of any drainage issues, which our guest never mentioned to me in her communications. I really am sorry if the weather may have created that issue, but again, had she truly allowed us to help, we would have done everything possible to move them. Please see the many kind comments about Andrea's and my service in our 5 star reviews here.

Lovely traditional villa in Merida

  • 5 of 5

I was considering other more modern looking villas, but changed my mind after reading the reviews and I'm so glad we did.

I don't actually think the photos of the villa do it credit as to how lovely this place is.

The main advantage of this villa is that it is pretty much fully screened, including the internal courtyard and the veranda overlooking the outside pool. This stops the mosquitoes getting in. We still got bitten, but that tended to be when we were out and about.

I wasn't sure what to expect with layout of the property, but it is essentially narrow and very long with 17 foot ceilings.

With the right hand side of the property leading you from one room to the next.

When you open the front door off the street you are into the reception room.

..Then next to the lounge / TV area with sofas and Cable TV.

..Then to another large reception area, with more seating.

..Then to the semi enclosed, screened roof courtyard ( the rain comes in above the plants/trees ).

..Then on to the Dining Area, which can be closed off.

..Then on to the screened veranda area next to the pool and lastly to the outside pool itself. ( The lighting makes the pool look great at night ).

The Left hand side of the villa is taken up with the front double bedroom, which also has a hammock, but does get some street noise. Adjoining another twin bedroom, followed by the first bathroom, kitchen next to the courtyard and back master double bedroom with en-suite (off from the dining area).

The bedrooms all had A/C and fans, which is needed overnight as it was pretty hot in August. Over 35C during the day and 24C over night. Electricity was charged extra, but not excessive when A/C was restricted to overnight use.

The villa is about a 10 minute walk from Parque de Santa Lucia and 15 minutes from Plaza Grande where there are plenty of bars and restaurants. Paseo de Montejo is close by, which was converted to a cycling park on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The local area is quiet on an evening, as it is near doctor's surgeries and other businesses, so it was easy to get parked.

There are so many historical and cultural sites and sights nearby including Uxmal, Chitchen Itza, multiple cenotes, etc... It is definitely worth renting a car and exploring the local area. Driving was pretty easy outside of the centre of Merida, which is a one way grid system.

I have no problem recommending the villa and would gladly return.
