About the property

Welcome to Casa Noel, tucked in the heart of historic Merida Centro. This beautiful colonial home is perfectly located less than two blocks from the many attractions of the Paseo Montejo and the Plaza Grande is an easy ten minute walk away. Three blocks from the house, enjoy the daily market at Santa Ana park. Every day, merchants serve up favorite local foods, souvenirs and services. Santa Ana is also home to numerous art galleries, featuring art in many forms from around the world with a focus on Mexican and Latin American artists.

Hiding behind the simple colonial facade, Casa Noel will quickly become your refuge from the busy city life. The tall entry doors reveal a view through the house to the central courtyard and from there to the rear garden. Traditional high ceilings and pasta tile floors combine with modern touches in a perfect blend of comfort and old Mexico.

The comfortable living room includes a flat screen HD television with cable and dvd player. The cable service includes English language news, sports and movie channels, along with extensive Spanish language selections. Casa Noel is also equipped with high speed wireless internet access.

A second living space is adjacent to the central courtyard, opening through the original wood archway to this bright and airy space. In the center of the house, this covered and screened center courtyard brings light and breezes to the living spaces. Sit here in the morning at the café table with your coffee and enjoy breakfast to the sounds of birds in the nearby trees.

The all new, much larger and modern kitchen opens off the central courtyard as well. Broad doors and windows bring in cooling breezes and light filtered through the courtyard plantings.

The dining room with seating for eight and fully equipped kitchen open onto a covered outdoor terrace leading to the gardens featuring a pool set amidst beautiful tropical plantings. A refreshing outdoor shower is located near the pool. Enjoy the sun in the garden surrounding the pool, or rest in the shade of the terrace.

The home includes three stunning bedrooms with 17 foot ceilings featuring the original pasta tile floors. New queen size beds, ceiling fans and air conditioning in each bedroom assure your comfort. The all new master bedroom features an en-suite bathroom with a delightful rainfall shower and dual sinks. The bedroom opens onto the quiet rear courtyard through high doors with a view of the pool and gardens, and offers complete privacy from the rest of the house.

Within a block of Casa Noel you will find multiple options for dining out, from a traditional cocina economica to various ethnic cuisines. Just two blocks away on Paseo Montejo you will find many restaurant and shopping options, along with several interesting museums. The daily Santa Ana market has a broad selection of meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a small supermarket is nearby as well.

Our local property manager speaks excellent English. She and her staff can arrange nearly any additional service you may need, including transportation, child care, travel information, shopping, massage or a cook. You may want the unique experience of a private cooking lesson for your party focused on local Yucatecan cuisine.

We invite your family to make our home your home in the beautiful colonial heart of Merida and the Yucatan peninsula.

Why Rex Noel chose Merida

Merida is truly authentic Mexico. The city itself and the surrounding countryside take us back to a more tranquil time when friends and family are more important than.... well, anything. The local people are warm, friendly and welcoming. We wander the streets at all hours in complete safety. And our time here leaves us relaxed and ready to face our busy lives again.

What makes this house unique

The location of Casa Noel is nearly perfect. On a quiet, bus free street, yet very close to so much of the city life that attracted us to Merida. The Paseo Montejo is just two blocks away with numerous restaurants and shops. Our local Santa Ana market offers a true Mexican shopping experience along with many of the services we have needed as homeowners and is just three blocks away. And we are within an easy 15 minute walk of the Plaza Grande yet discreetly removed from the noise and bustle of that area.

And when you choose to remain home and relax, the quiet comfort of our home, gardens and outdoor living spaces will allow you to rest, refresh and recharge.

Beautiful Home in Prime Location

  • 5 of 5

We have wintered in Merida for the past 7 years, and only this year moved to Casa Noel, located in the Santa Ana neighborhood of Merida. The three bedroom, two bath house was perfect for us and our frequent guests of family and friends. What did we like best, relative to other houses we have rented? Completely mosquito free! Open courtyard had screened skylights, and the back patio adjoining the beautiful pool was completely screened. This allowed breezes to keep the house cool, with out the pesky mosquitoes entering. During our two month stay, we only used the bedroom air conditioning two times. The master opens to the back patio, so air flow kept the rooms cool - even on the hottest days. Also, the house is on an east/west street, meaning it's much quieter than calle 60 or calle 62 where the frequent busses rumble past all day long. The kitchen has everything you need - toaster, blender, coffee maker, microwave, modern fridge/freezer. Though we didn't use it frequently, the TV has lots of channels, many in english. The pool was refreshing, and gets direct sun part of the day, in case you're interested in sunbathing! Great neighborhood with plenty of places in walkable distance for people watching, eating, shopping or drinking. We had a car, but public transport stops right on the corner, going either north or south heading north to the beach, or south to the main square (which is walkable). All in all, we loved our stay and will be back next year! Property manager, Andrea, was wonderful, and the owner, Rex checked in to make sure all was well.

Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Casa Noel for four nights and absolutely loved Casa Noel. A beautiful home in the perfect location. Two short blocks to Pasejo Montejo, a short walk to our favorite cantina, La Cantina Negrita, and a short walk to the Santa Ana and Santa Lucia plazas. The property was spotless and very well maintained and customer service with Rex and Andrea was great. No surprises! We highly recommend Casa Noel. We miss Merida and hope to come back again. We visited Ruta Puuc (Grutas Loltun), Uxmal ruins (our fave of the many ruins we have seen on the Yucatan peninsula...be sure to climb the large temple that overlooks the ballgame field for an amazing view), a meal at Cana Nah (awesome food and service near Uxmal). Another day we visited the Grand Mayan museum and then the smaller Museo de Arte Popular (folk museum) which is in a very interesting neighborhood. Don't miss the main plaza and all the buildings and cathedral around the square (be sure to go inside City Hall to view the spectacular murals) and visit MACAY for modern art. Check out Cerveza 60, a big beer/food market between Santa Ana and Santa Lucia plazas. Loved the big market south of the main plaza. And then when we departed Merida we drove via Tixkokob and Izamal (two definite towns not to miss....beautiful!). Would skip Progresso...short drive but not much there to take in other than a seafood meal which is just as plentiful in Merida. And what we loved more than anything were the people! Mexico is full of the most wonderful, kind, smiling, gracious people.....the people are what will keep us coming back to Mexico even moreso than all the beautiful sites. Enjoy your stay at Casa Noel and enjoy Mexico!

Great house in a good area

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house the first time we stayed here in 2012. It is even better now following extensive layout changes and renovations. It accommodates 6 people in absolute comfort and true colonial style. Like many Merida colonials, it doesn't look much from the street, but inside you will find a spacious, classy gem, fully reflecting Merida's heyday in the late 19th / early 20th century when, due to the henequen (sisal) trade, it reputedly had more millionaires per square mile than anywhere else in the world!! The majestic villas on the Paseo Montejo, just two blocks away, bear full testament to this fascinating history. 3 roomy bedrooms have ceiling fans and AC ensuring a good sleep on warm Yucatan nights. The 2 bathrooms (one en-suite to the master bedroom) are modern with powerful showers. The kitchen is well stocked for home cooking, supplemented by a gas BBQ on the patio. The house is large and airy with 2 comfortably furnished living spaces, a large dining area and a covered terrace area indoors and a large mosquito proof patio adjoining the outdoor pool area. The wi-fi and cable TV work well and the owner provides considerable information about things to do and see in Merida and its surrounds. We rented a car, but the house is central so this might not be necessary for everyone. All-in-all a wonderful house which is highly recommended.
