**The Bear’s Lair: Where Fun Meets the Forest** Skip the “retreat”—this is a full-on destination.
Tucked into the quiet woods of Berkeley Springs, WV, The Bear’s Lair is where you go to truly unplug (or plug in—your call, especially once you see the arcade). There’s plenty of space for the whole crew, whether it’s family, friends, or that legendary annual Friendsgiving.
**Cabin. Game On.** The main level brings the cozy: two queen bedrooms, including a master suite with a soaking tub and walk-in shower. Every detail is dialed in—blackout shades for deep sleep and thoughtful accessibility features so everyone can settle in comfortably.
Upstairs, the king bedroom offers a quiet reading nook, while the loft flexes as your bonus space with a futon, play couch, and desk—ideal for games, crafts, or that one meeting you couldn’t dodge.
But let’s be honest—you’re heading straight for the lower level. This is where the fun lives: a full arcade room featuring Pac-Man and Street Fighter II, plus board games, shuffleboard, and foosball. There’s also a twin bedroom that converts to a king. (Heads up: you’ll need to pop upstairs for the bathroom.)
**Play Hard, Rest Easy** Outside is all about unwinding. The lineup: a wood-fired hot tub, sauna, and even an axe-throwing setup. Some firewood is provided (with more available for purchase), so you can jump right in. Add in cornhole and giant Tetris Tumble, and you’re set.
Fire up the grill on the deck, pour a drink, and wind down by the fire pit as deer pass through the trees—it’s the kind of evening that feels earned.
You’ll also have access to the neighborhood pool and hot tub just a 5-minute walk away from Memorial Day until Labor Day. *Note: the property includes 4 passes; up to 4 additional day passes are available for advance purchase.*
Traveling with little ones? You’re covered—crib, high chair, baby monitor, gates, and more are all ready to go.
**Adventure, Right Outside Your Door** Step out for direct access to the Coolfont Mountainside hiking trails. For a change of pace, Cacapon State Park is a short drive away for lakeside lounging or a round of golf. And downtown Berkeley Springs offers charming shops, cozy cafes, and classic small-town vibes.
The Bear’s Lair isn’t just a cabin—it’s your home base for both adventure and total relaxation.
**Accessibility Highlights** While there are 9 steps to the front door, the main floor is designed for comfort and ease:
* Main-level living with two queen bedrooms, kitchen, and living area * Ensuite bathroom with soaking tub, walk-in shower, and raised-height toilet * Lever-style door and faucet handles throughout * Blackout shades in all sleeping areas * Accessible parking available near the main entrance

Very comfortable, cozy cabin with lots of amenities for all ages was perfect for our family reunion. Beautiful wooded setting, with a historic town with mineral springs nearby. Enjoyed our time there, and would highly recommend!
The house is quiet and surrounded by woods but within a few minutes drive of downtown Berkeley Springs. It's a great home base for exploring the surrounding area. We loved the layout and the washer/dryer (it's always nice to come home from a trip without a pile of laundry to do). Would definitely stay again.
Had a great time this weekend. Spent the weekend hanging out with friends playing games, sitting outside during the day by the fire and in the mornings relaxing in the sauna. Place had everything we needed and would definitely recommend this house to friends, we talked about coming back when weather was warmer so we could spend more time outside taking advantage of all the activies offered.
This Vrbo rental was absolutely amazing. The pictures advertised truly don’t do it justice. We originally stayed for 2 nights but ended up extending our stay by an extra night because we didn’t want to leave! We stayed in late December, and the home was incredibly cozy and comfortable. The owners have truly thought of everything to make guests feel at home—extra toothbrushes, coffee, spices, a fully stocked kitchen with plates, utensils, pots and pans, plenty of towels, bedding, blankets… the list goes on and on.It is a beautiful, welcoming space and exceeded all of our expectations. This place easily deserves 5 stars, and we would absolutely stay here again.
We had a great time! The property was just as described...the sauna and hot tub were so much fun! It was great not having to drag along so much for the kids--we had a two month old and a 20 month old. Everything was so clean and welcoming! We definitely will book again!
This house is perfect. Amenities galore and a fantastic basement playroom to keep the kids occupied for days! Location can’t be beat. Close to both state parks and the town. The host knows what she’s doing. There was a torch lighter to use for the fireplace which provided excellent heat and loads of comfy blankets. Coffee bar. Dog bowls. Separate towels for outdoor use. Excellent water pressure. Comfy beds. Labeled switches. Cabinet after cabinet of kids things to use. Close to the brewing company. Everyone in town was friendly and our dog had a blast as well. Dogs are welcome into most businesses and restaurants. Overall 10/10 property with absolutely zero issues. Our kids (7 and 10) already asking to return and we just left today! Thanks for a great little escape.

About the host
Hosted by Becca Isoldi
We’re a family of four from a Virginia suburb of Washington, DC—me, a middle school teacher, and my husband, a computer programmer. We love traveling off the beaten path and discovering the hidden gems that locals cherish. When we find ourselves in popular tourist cities, we always venture beyond the typical attractions to explore the neighborhoods that fly under the radar. Food, culture, and adventure are at the heart of our travels, and we strike a balance between savoring each moment and seeing as much as we can. We bought our charming cabin as a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and we make the most of it whenever we can (which, if you’re familiar with youth sports schedules, you know is a bit of a juggling act!). We also love hosting friends and family, giving them the chance to experience the peaceful beauty of a West Virginia getaway.
Why they chose this property
We love the neighborhood because it’s tucked away like a secret hideaway—without the risk of being stranded in the middle of nowhere. Just 10 minutes in one direction, and we can grab a coffee downtown or take a quick dip in the springs. Head the other way, and we’re equally close to epic hiking trails. And, of course, just a block down the street, there’s a pool, tennis courts, and basketball courts—because, really, why not?
What makes this property unique
The cabin itself is nestled in a forest where every season brings its own majestic transformation. Inside, the beds are fit for Goldilocks—*not* too soft, *not* too hard, but just right for a perfect night’s sleep. And if you’re planning a getaway with friends, the fully stocked kitchen is ideal for cooking up a memorable Friendsgiving feast. When we get bored of the house amenities (though, honestly, who would?), there’s always something fun to do—whether it’s starting the day with a sauna, battling it out in a Street Fighter tournament, or sinking into a plush sectional with a good book. It’s the perfect mix of tranquility and excitement.
