Stehekin is special! This world-class destination affords magnificent natural wonders, quiet, safety, unique lifestyles, and much, much more. Stehekin is... what America was. This feeling will grasp you as you explore this scenic valley of enchantment. Rainbow Falls, 312 ft., punctuates the grandeur of the valley and is only half-mile from our vacation rental.
Few other locations in the 48 states are so remote, pristine, scenic, and peaceful as Stehekin. Accessible only by boat or plane, the pollution of mind, spirit, and body so prevalent elsewhere is absent in Stehekin. A gateway to the North Cascades National Park, hiking trails abound. The small community of approximately 100 souls will gladly demonstrate their unique one room log school house, lifestyle, and perspective on the outside world. In Stehekin you step back in time but ahead in quality of life.

We had a small family reunion at this large, comfortable cabin with great views of the Stehekin River. It's as if the stretch of river was our very own river while we were there. The water is so clear one can see the salmon and trout just waiting to be caught. We watched the sun rise and set on the mountains surrounding the cabin. With no cars to speak of on the island, just the park's jolly red bus, it is a very peaceful place to be. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was clean, nicely furnished, and it had everything in the kitchen one could possibly need. The children loved the rope swing in the little outbuilding and couldn't get enough of it. We didn't need a car there. We walked to the beautiful Rainbow Waterfall and apple orchard and to that fantastic bakery, a welcoming gathering place for locals and tourists. Our menfolk caught fish in the Stehekin River, and everyone enjoyed the catching and the eating. Just getting to the island on the Lady of the Lake was an adventure for all of us. The cabin was a perfect place for a small family reunion, and we all have fond memories of it. What a beautiful place it is, and I highly recommend it as a place to stay surrounded by nature. The women who drove us to and from the dock were both so friendly and helpful, too.
Spacious cottage with plenty of room. Excellent location by the river. We had a party of 8 and fit comfortably. We used the bikes to ride to town and also to the waterfall. Kitchen was well equipped and spacious and we made all our meals. We went on several hikes right from the property and even saw a brown bear and also visited the bakery and the vegetable garden shop. Each night we made fire near the river in the fire ring and enjoyed the night sky. We would recommend this property for anyone who would like to get away and enjoy the outdoors.
Cabin has a beautiful view of the Stehekin River, nice firepit, and within walking distance to the bakery. Our group was very pleased with the clean cabin and well stocked kitchen facilities. Nice roomy areas with lots of room to roam. We will definitely be back next year.
The Chelan football staff and players were fortunate to use the retreat center over the past weekend. The accomidations and setting was perfect for what the staff wanted to accomplish. There was plenty of room for team building events, A good source for a service project completed as a team and perfect for the discussions around the campfire. Thank you so much to the Rustic Retreat owners and staff for your hospitality..
Great location right on the Stehekin River. The house is very roomy and functional. The location is ideal, close to Stehekin Landing, the bakery/pastry company, the waterfall, etc.
Stunning view of McGregor Mountain, 1/2 m. from the bakery and Rainbow Falls.
