Six Nations

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay nights

About the property

4 bedroom, 4 1/2 bathroom 2 story new home, deck and 2nd floor veranda

Six Nations House is a home rich in history and culture. The home is architecturally designed to offer all the modern conveniences and comforts but keeps the charm of the old world setting that Niagara-on-the-Lake so richly emulates.

The exterior is made of very modern materials that will stand the test of time, but the Georgian style of the build is reflective of the era when the town was rebuilt after 1812. The era was a simple one and the efficient, solid look was all the rage. The Georgian style is known for the white siding and black shutters, central door (red of course!), two storey and lots of windows. Doors and windows are trimmed with frame work that you can see often in and around town on the historic homes.

Six Nations is very much in keeping with the old town neighborhood, the home itself offers such warmth, comfort and style, and it is hard to know where to start! As you enter the front door the first thing you will notice is the wide staircase that leads upstairs to 3 large bedrooms. The main floor has gleaming hardwood floor.

To the left of the staircase is the open concept dining room and kitchen. The rectangular dining table is large enough to easily accommodate 8, with solid wood chairs designed for comfort. Open to the kitchen, this allows for everyone to join the cook in chatting and preparing meals! The spacious kitchen is equipped with a generous two door fridge and freezer, stove, microwave, kettle, coffee machine, pots, pans, dishes, glasses, wine glasses, utensils and so much more!

Unique to this home is the easy access to the covered back patio with the bbq/grill, perfect for preparing those outdoor meals in the summer, but so convenient for using the bbq/grill in the winter!

The living area is to the right of the stairs on the main floor. A big comfy couch and cozy chairs in front of the wood burning fireplace. The room is filled with natural light during the day and in the evening is perfect for cozying up and spending time with your favorite people. Adjacent to the living area and kitchen is a powder room.

This home has an amazing stereo system with speakers in every room! You can control the volume in each room separately, so bring your classical, jazz or Christmas carols for all to enjoy!

This home offers easy access for anyone with mobility issues. On the main floor is the master bedroom with en suite (tub/shower), large closet, flat screen TV and a luxurious King bed. Upstairs are 3 very large bedrooms with en suites (tub/shower). Up here is a king and 2 bedrooms have queen beds.

Off the upper foyer is a walk out covered veranda, which you can enjoy with a glass of wine or reading bed time stories to the children underneath the stars.

The decor is very inviting and also has a proud display of artifacts and history that you can touch, read about and enjoy! In Six Nations House you will find a curated selection of books that will increase your knowledge and appreciation of Six Nations and Native contributions in the War of 1812 and their impact in shaping Canada’s borders and national character. Also included is a selection of Smithsonian books showcasing Native arts and history that Tim has either edited, conceptualized, or strategically initiated. These include Spirit Capture: Photographs From The National Museum of the American Indian, American Indians / American Presidents, Native Universe: Voices of Indian America, and Infinity of Nations: Art and History in the Collections of the National Museum of the American Indian, to name a few. Additionally, he co-created the museum’s membership magazine, American Indian, copies of which are also included in Six Nations House.

Please also acknowledge and respect the purple and white flag you see flying next to the British Union Jack on the front of Six Nations House. It is the national flag of the Haudenosaunee. Together, these two flags represent the strategic alliance that once held strong between Six Nations and England, without which Canada would have looked very different today.

About Janet Trogdon

Your proprietors are Tim and Lisa Johnson from Six Nations of the Grand River.

For more than twenty years Lisa (Oneida) has managed The Bear’s Inn at Six Nations of the Grand River. Designed to accurately reflect the community’s storied history and culture, The Bear’s Inn has welcomed and facilitated thousands of guests and dozens of organizations that have done good works benefiting the community — ranging from health and education advancement to language preservation, support of the arts, and economic development. Because Haudenosaunee (Six Nations or Iroquois) society is matrilineal — meaning families follow the mother’s heritage — Six Nations House is an Oneida Nation Bear Clan household.

Tim (Mohawk) is a direct descendant of the historic Mohawk leader Joseph Brant. In addition, his great uncle Emerson Hill was among the first Haudenosaunee Chiefs to travel internationally on an Iroquois Passport. During his time spent as associate director for Museum Programs at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian, Tim has managed the production of world-class and critically acclaimed exhibitions, award-winning publications and media, exceptional educational products designed for homes and classrooms across North America, and exhilarating cultural programs.

In Six Nations House you will find a curated selection of books that will increase your knowledge and appreciation of Six Nations and Native ally contributions in the War of 1812 and their impact in shaping Canada’s borders and national character. Also included is a selection of Smithsonian books showcasing Native arts and history that Tim has either edited, conceptualized, or strategically initiated.

Why Janet Trogdon chose Niagara-on-the-Lake

Famous Native leaders such as Joseph Brant, John Norton, and John Brant walked these hallowed grounds while they forged and maintained diplomatic relations with Sir William Johnson, John Butler, Sir Isaac Brock, and other historic figures who collectively shaped and defined the borders and character of a new nation.

Six Nations House is a new custom home, architecturally designed to exhibit the charm and character of yester year. Enjoy the benefits of modern technology in the refined comfort of a premium vacation rental that is ideally suited for family getaways and small group retreats. Two hundred years after the War of 1812 Six Nations House opens to respectfully recognize Six Nations and Native ally contributions to the development of Canada, renew an old alliance, and make history once again.

What makes this house unique

Location! Location! Location! Park your car and go explore! Shop to you drop, then take your parcels back to your home-away from home and go out for more! Six Nations House is just two short streets from Queen Street with all the shops, restaurants and live theatre! Not a shopper, well then come see our museums, parks, golf course or hiking trails that are all within an easy stroll of your vacation home.

Six Nations offers ample private parking, but you won’t use your car much! Each bedroom is very spacious with lots and lots of closet space and each has an en suite bathroom. The main patio area is located right off the kitchen so it is very easy for the cook and chief bottle washer to keep organized and still be a part of all the fun! The upper patio off the second floor is sheltered from the wind and afternoon sun so it is perfect for hanging out and relaxing. This home is large enough for everyone to gather around in the kitchen, living room or outdoor space but also offers spacious bedrooms and a couple of nook and crannies if you need some alone time with a good book or a nap!

Everything is new! Just been built a few years ago and only entering into its first full season as a vacation home, this is a very special place that you can call your own during your holiday. Come stay with us for a couple of days, a weekend or a month! We are open all year around!!

Absolutely lovely accommodation

We have stayed at a number of different accommodations in Niagara over the years including B&Bs, private residences, inns and hotels and the Six Nations House is by far the best. Immaculate, beautifully furnished and well located, our group will be coming back again for sure!

Perfect Weekend!

This exceptional home was spotless, well-equipped and filled with high end furnishings. Each room was large and very comfortable. It is centrally located so a short 5 minute walk will get you to the heart of town. I highly recommend a stay at Six Nation House. It is perfect for a large family or lovely for a girl's weekend away! You won't be disappointed.

Had a wonderful stay at this excellent property

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this property last summer with 6 other women for a college girl's reunion. It was perfect for us and we had a great weekend. The minute we walked in the door we knew we had made a good choice. The house is very clean, nicely furnished and decorated, and very well maintained. It is ideally located, just 2 blocks from shops and restaurants. The property manager was extremely helpful and accomodating. I would highly recommend this property.
