About Janet Trogdon
Your proprietors are Tim and Lisa Johnson from Six Nations of the Grand River. For more than twenty years Lisa (Oneida) has managed The Bear’s Inn at Six Nations of the Grand River. Designed to accurately reflect the community’s storied history and culture, The Bear’s Inn has welcomed and facilitated thousands of guests and dozens of organizations that have done good works benefiting the community — ranging from health and education advancement to language preservation, support of the arts, and economic development. Because Haudenosaunee (Six Nations or Iroquois) society is matrilineal — meaning families follow the mother’s heritage — Six Nations House is an Oneida Nation Bear Clan household. Tim (Mohawk) is a direct descendant of the historic Mohawk leader Joseph Brant. In addition, his great uncle Emerson Hill was among the first Haudenosaunee Chiefs to travel internationally on an Iroquois Passport. During his time spent as associate director for Museum Programs at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian, Tim has managed the production of world-class and critically acclaimed exhibitions, award-winning publications and media, exceptional educational products designed for homes and classrooms across North America, and exhilarating cultural programs. In Six Nations House you will find a curated selection of books that will increase your knowledge and appreciation of Six Nations and Native ally contributions in the War of 1812 and their impact in shaping Canada’s borders and national character. Also included is a selection of Smithsonian books showcasing Native arts and history that Tim has either edited, conceptualized, or strategically initiated.
Why Janet Trogdon chose Historic Old Town
Famous Native leaders such as Joseph Brant, John Norton, and John Brant walked these hallowed grounds while they forged and maintained diplomatic relations with Sir William Johnson, John Butler, Sir Isaac Brock, and other historic figures who collectively shaped and defined the borders and character of a new nation. Six Nations House is a new custom home, architecturally designed to exhibit the charm and character of yester year. Enjoy the benefits of modern technology in the refined comfort of a premium vacation rental that is ideally suited for family getaways and small group retreats. Two hundred years after the War of 1812 Six Nations House opens to respectfully recognize Six Nations and Native ally contributions to the development of Canada, renew an old alliance, and make history once again.
What makes this House unique
Location! Location! Location! Park your car and go explore! Shop to you drop, then take your parcels back to your home-away from home and go out for more! Six Nations House is just two short streets from Queen Street with all the shops, restaurants and live theatre! Not a shopper, well then come see our museums, parks, golf course or hiking trails that are all within an easy stroll of your vacation home. Six Nations offers ample private parking, but you won’t use your car much! Each bedroom is very spacious with lots and lots of closet space and each has an en suite bathroom. The main patio area is located right off the kitchen so it is very easy for the cook and chief bottle washer to keep organized and still be a part of all the fun! The upper patio off the second floor is sheltered from the wind and afternoon sun so it is perfect for hanging out and relaxing. This home is large enough for everyone to gather around in the kitchen, living room or outdoor space but also offers spacious bedrooms and a couple of nook and crannies if you need some alone time with a good book or a nap! Everything is new! Just been built a few years ago and only entering into its first full season as a vacation home, this is a very special place that you can call your own during your holiday. Come stay with us for a couple of days, a weekend or a month! We are open all year around!!

Six Nations House
This is one of the most beautiful rental houses we have ever stayed in. Each bedroom had it's own bathroom, which made it perfect for our family vacation with eight members. The downstairs bedroom was great for our parents who have some difficulty with stairs. Very close to the downtown area, historic fort, parks, and lakefront. Enjoyed visiting wineries in the area by car and bike. The nearby bike trail made it easy to bike down to Niagara Falls (didn't have to try to find and pay for parking!)
Great restaurants in the area, both in town and at the surrounding wineries. We enjoyed a great lunch and wine tasting at Caroline Cellars in addition to wine tastings at other vineyards.
Possible improvements would be a few more larger pots and serving wear for a larger family - we did most of our own cooking at the home. The extra large freezer also had difficulty just freezing ice cubes in the ice cube tray let alone keeping ice cream frozen.
We would definitely recommend this beautiful home in a great location for families or groups of couples. We would love to come back here again with our family.
Thanks so much for taking the time to complete a review. We always enjoy reading about what our guests liked most about their stay with us!
When we read about the freezer, we had a technician come in and check it out. Turns out a relay switch needed replaced and he was able to fix it on the spot!
Looking forward to hosting you again at Six Nations House!
Weekend with friends!
This past weekend was our third visit to the Six Nations House. We were 4 couples and had a fantastic weekend. The house is a short walk to town and is perfect in every way!!!
The house is beautiful. It easily accommodated 4 couples. This was our second stay and we will definitely be back!
Absolutely lovely accommodation
We have stayed at a number of different accommodations in Niagara over the years including B&Bs, private residences, inns and hotels and the Six Nations House is by far the best. Immaculate, beautifully furnished and well located, our group will be coming back again for sure!
A very good weekend!
Our stay at Six Nations House was wonderful. Those responsible for managing our reservation and greeting us upon arrival were polite, helpul and very friendly. We felt genuinely welcomed. The house is in beautiful condition - clean, new and spacious - and the location was very convenient. A great stay!
This exceptional home was spotless, well-equipped and filled with high end furnishings. Each room was large and very comfortable. It is centrally located so a short 5 minute walk will get you to the heart of town. I highly recommend a stay at Six Nation House. It is perfect for a large family or lovely for a girl's weekend away! You won't be disappointed.
