A 1750 Mas carefully restored and redecorated with three double bedrooms and three bathrooms (two en-suite), furnished with authentic Provence as well as contemporary furniture and paintings. The house opens on a charming garden with roses and olive trees. From the pool in the garden, beautiful views of the famous village of Les Baux.
Karin and Mathieu have been living in London for 7 years with two young children. They have lived in several large cities in Europe but they feel at home in Provence, where they spend 2 months every year.
Owner/Property Manager purchased this house in 2007
After vacationing several years in hotels in the area, we fell in love with this corner of France which combines unspoilt nature, beautiful old buildings and a special 'art de vivre'. So when we were offered to buy this 1750 typical Provence Mas with its thick walls and a lovely garden offering breathtaking views onto the old perched village of Les Baux, it did not take us long to reach a decision. We have had fantastic moments in this house every year since
The village of Les Baux sits in the Parc Naturel des Alpilles, a small mountain chain who offers unique landscapes, with the minerals of the limestone mixing with the soft green of the olive trees. The house has kept many original features and we like the fact that it has a long history as a peasant Mas in the 1800's and 1900's. It has also been entirely redecorated in 2010 by a renowned interior designer and featured in several magazines and websites (see links). The combination of antique furniture and paintings with contemporary design creates a very cozy interior. From the garden and the pool, you will enjoy views of the well known village of Les Baux, labeled 'one of the most beautiful village in France'. This exceptional view is enjoyed by only a few houses in the area.

Hi Karin and Mathieu
Just a quick message to say we LOVE the house, and everything is fabulous, and we are having such a lovely time. There are no problems.
After a full week of Mistral, today is calm and warm at last. We enjoy everything about your gorgeous house and garden, but have been out and about every day because it hasn’t been pool/garden weather yet. Perhaps next week. In the meantime, we buy great food at markets, and have been sightseeing from Marseille to Orange!
Thank you for making it so easy and comfortable.
We rented this lovely home for two weeks for a holiday from Los Angeles. It was beautifully decorated and just perfect for us and our toddler. The pool and outdoor dining area is wonderful and it has a BBQ, which we used every day. The owners also use the house themselves, which we have found makes a big difference in that all of the linens, kitchen equipment, etc. were very nice. We also could not have been happier with the location, which was quiet and private and just a short drive away from several towns. We have already recommended it to friends going to Provence next year. The set-up is probably best for two couples with or without children or a large family.
My husband and I stayed at this lovely home for a week in June. The house is extremely comfortable and elegant, with anything you might need on hand - kitchen supplies should you want to cook, extra towels, plenty of good books to read. While there, we spent most of our time under the pergola enjoying the pool and the beautiful landscaping. We found it to be an extremely relaxing place and looked forward to coming back after a day of exploring Provence. The location is great - allowing you to get to many towns and sights in less than an hour in most cases. Nearby Maussane was very convenient for food shopping and good restaurants. We did walk up the path to Les Baux and also enjoyed hiking right from the house. The views are spectacular. We ate lunch twice at Bistro du Paradou, probably the best meals we had on our trip - highly recommended. Both the owners and our local contacts were extremely helpful and responsive. One of our requirements when renting is that the house is private and quiet (as much as possible being close to town). I will point out that the front of the house faces a shared courtyard - so you will see some neighbors, not an issue since we spent our time in the back yard with the pool and we rarely heard anybody. Also note that the house is connected to the neighbor's - there is a thick hedge separating the two back yards. There was nobody staying at the house next door while we were there so it was not a problem for us, however if there had been we would have definitely been aware of them since they have a pool in back as well. I would highly recommend staying here - I think it would also be a perfect choice for two couples and/or families with children as there is plenty of space and amenities.
We thoroughly enjoyed this property. The beautiful home is wonderfully equipped, and has a bright, big kitchen, spacious dining area, and lots of bedrooms. One en suite shower was very nice, the other is smaller, and there is a third with tub. Both master suites are very comfortable with windows with nice breezes and views. Lovely private pool and outdoor space which we would have used more but for the Mistral. Good location to get away from crowds but still convenient to sites and towns in all directions. We especially enjoyed visiting several small hill towns that are an easy drive from this home, and the Pont du Gard and of course the walk up to Les Baux. The nearby village of Mausanne in one direction and St. Remy in the other made shopping for staples such as cheese, fruit, bread and wine very easy. And for those who do not want to disconnect entirely, the WiFi signal is strong and trouble free. Recommend it!
We stayed at this property for two weeks in July and look forward to an opportunity to do so again. The house has a fantastic feel of being old while offering many modern conveniences and felt very much like a "home". It sits right below Les Baux, and you can climb up to the town in less than 15 minutes. It was also a great base from which to take day trips or partial day trips all over the area. The kids loved playing in the pool daily, and the covered pergola provided the perfect location from which to watch them doing so. The combination of the big, well appointed kitchen, the outdoor table and the awesome food stores in nearby Maussane made for some memorable provencal family meals. The beds were comfortable, and the upstairs spacious. The floors are creaky, but it adds to the overall feel of the place. Our son loved staying in the attic which he quickly claimed as his man-cave. Despite the heat, the house was cool, and the only place we needed a fan was in the attic.
I would not hesitate to return. The owners were extremely helpful, as was the their local contact person who responded quickly to questions or concerns.
Our family with two kids stayed in this very charming 17th century house. Although it has the charm of the 17th century, it is a very well equipped house with all the appliances you need to make it a comfortable vacation house. The location is great: You have a wonderful view on the city of les baux, only a ten minutes walk from the center, but away from the stream of tourist arriving in les baux every day. The main bed room offers a wonderful view in the garden and the pool, it is a perfect start of the day. All bed rooms are separately accessible, two of them have a bathroom attached. It is a perfect retreat for two families or three couples. We can highly recommend it. Staying in such a charming house makes a whole difference on how to experience the Provence.
We love Les Baux! We had a great view of the hilltop village, and could walk there easily. The Carrières de Lumières are well worth a visit and there are stunning walks in all directions. The pool and garden are delightful, and the house itself is very stylish, clean and comfortable. There is everything you need to feel at home and the hosts are very helpful. I would definitely recommend a stay in this property, it really is as great as you see in the pictures.
Les Baux de Provence are one of the highly select group of Most Beautiful Villages in France, a title it owes to the rarity and diversity of its heritage as well as the quality of its environment and town layout. Located on a rocky plateau in the heart of the Alpilles, the town of Les Baux-de-Provence provides a breathtaking panoramic view down over Arles and the Camargue. It has been patiently restored and now boasts a historical and architecture heritage consisting of 22 listed buildings. The Castle, is a unique reminder of medieval history, the Romanesque and Renaissance Saint Vincent's Church, has beautiful stained-glass windows by Max Ingrand, the Renaissance Window Post Tenebras Lux is a reminder of the Huguenot influence in the 16th century, the private mansions built in the 16th and 17th centuries are now art galleries and museums, among them the Musée Yves Brayer and Musée de Santons, the Louis Jou Foundation contains yet more treasures and, finally, there is the Town Hall housed in the former private residence known as the Hôtel de Manville.
In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” in Les Baux-de-Provence host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world.
The nearby villages of Maussane and Saint Remy de Provence offer a variety of typical cafes and restaurants and colorful open air markets throughout the year.
