Charming eclectic home nestled behind other homes one just off Little Haven Beach (walking) and 5 minute drive from Sandy Hook beaches. We originally missed there is a kitchenette so if you cook a lot it may be a little less than perfect but if you eat out you can easily walk to many restaurants. Don't miss the short walk to Gem Bagels!!! Well stocked kitchen. Nice shower with good water pressure. Beautiful shady garden oasis. Kind neighbors in a quiet neighborhood. Parking down the street in a public lot. Very responsive host. We very much enjoyed our stay!
Cute house. Clean and well taken care of. Easy walk to a bunch of places to eat.

The house was nice and clean. Not the biggest fan of all the plant life and insects, but that didn't affect our stay. Wonderful little home for vacation!
We arrived to a clean and ready property. The air-conditioning worked nicely on a very hot weekend. The location is extremely close to a variety of beaches and restaurants making for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
The cottage was lovely and eclectic. We did suggest some things to the owner and he was very receptive to all suggestions. Make sure to try the granola!

I was very disappointed in this property. There were stains on my comforter. Spots on my sheets. No closet to hang your clothes in in the room I was in but I did have a door so there was a hook to hang clothes if you had hangers. The second bedroom had a closet but I am assuming it was the owners closet since it was locked so no closet in there to hang your clothes in and no door only a rod with a sheet. No chest of drawers so where were you supposed to put your clothes that you brought. My pillows were so flat they were useless and my bed was so low I do not think it had a frame. The towels that we were given to use were well used, definitely not white and many stains. No holes in the towels but towels I would put to use to clean my home not dry off with after a shower. It was very hard to feel comfortable within the space because there was so much stuff on the tables or countertops or toilet or sink that you would end up knocking off an item when using the room. As for cleanliness there were crumbs on the tables and cobwebs on the steps. The mirrors were not clean and when I tried to wipe them off to use them to do my make up it did not clean them. It stated street parking, honestly there are maybe 6 spots on the block which homeowners already are parked in so you had to hope they moved from their spots or you drove around street after street hoping to find an open spot. I attached pictures.

I am sorry you did not enjoy staying at the house. However, your claims are greatly exagerated and some are completely false. The truth is, the building is a 100 year old beach house which is rustic but clean and well kept. Especially the bathroom and kitchen which have been prepared with care for guests, including freshly laundered sheets and bath towells. The house decor is ecclectic and may not suite those who prefer more conventional styling. The bedroom accomodations have hanging and/or chest of drawers which have suited dozens of guests without complaints.
What you haven't commented on is all the positive aspects of the house and surroundings which indicates to me that you searched for negative regard only and not a balanced approach to your review. The intimate gardens with beautiful flowering plants, outdoor spaces with night lighting, furnishings, close proximity to the beach across the street, music and artwork etc. make the house a pleasure to stay in. Thank you for treating it well.
The house has so much character and with neighborhood to match! The perfect beach stay.Scott, the host was wonderful, responsive and easy to work with. He made sure our stay was perfect, start to finish. We will definitely be back.
Lovely property, tastefully decorated and beautifully landscaped. Scott is a great and attentive host. Our family of 4 enjoyed our week in Highlands, with lots of miles biked on the local trails, relaxing time spent on the beach, and a day trip to NYC on the ferry. Property is conveniently located within walking distance of several restaurants that we enjoyed. Be sure to check out the lighthouse (oldest in the US!) and catch a sunset on the peninsula!
This was the perfect place for our little beach get away. It's perfect for 3 people (at most). It's a little on the small side, but it's filled with so much character and the place was beautiful. It was easy to find everything we needed and we were so close to the beach. You can easily walk to some of the local spots and the main beach areas are a short drive away. I will note that there is AC only on the 1st floor and the upstairs does tend to run a little hot. Other than that the stay was great and Scott was very communicative. Looking forward to another stay!

I am happy that the house was enjoyable. An AC unit has been ordered and will be installed this weekend at the 2nd floor to cool the bedrooms. Both bedrooms have 2 person beds ("Full" size) to accomidate 4 people. I hope guests will enjoy the various spaces inside and out for different experiences, front garden dining/lounge, rear roofed porch and indoor living areas.
So I really didn’t want to write a review . . . Because I’d love to keep this gem a secret!!! As far as cleanliness - pristine. Host made sure anything you can think of that you’ll need is available! Eclectic decor which I absolutely loved. Rooms were comfortable and cool using the upstairs A/C’s. The garden area was beautiful and watching the hummingbirds and bees was so relaxing. The town itself is friendly and easy to get around. Met numerous locals who offered info about the area including popular spots to go, the public beach etc. We were only there 2 nights and loved the Proving Ground so much we went both days. Walking distance, good food, live music, great atmosphere! The closest public beach also walking distance, small, clean and a lifeguard on duty. The only thing I can think of that I’d recommend is a new coffeemaker, it worked but extremely slow. Highly recommend this rental!
The good: Location of the property is tucked into a seaside neighborhood with plenty todo within walking & bike distance. We drove over the bridge to sandy hook beach during the day then back to the appt to shower up & walk to a local establishment that had food options via outdoor bar/grill, a band and deck over the water during sun set. The bar was fun - and the local bagel shop in the morning was fantastic. Physical facts: This property abuts what appears to be two abandoned homes & accessible via a tight overgrown path. On the plus side, it’s very quiet…while the 1st impression leaves a bit to be desired. The upstairs doesn’t have A/C, one large bedroom is pad locked with no access & no off street parking so it’s the ole drive around the neighborhood in search for parking which the owner fully disclosed pre-check in. It’s a beach house, if you don’t have fun here you’re not a fun person - enjoy the beach & all this area has to offer!
Scott’s property is truly special. Nestled amongst some of the prettiest gardens I’d ever seen, his rustic, charming slice of heaven is just right for a pair or foursome looking for a relaxing weekend in beautiful Highlands. It was clear a lot of love and care went into this property; it was not only extremely well maintained, but full of thoughtful touches like a s’mores kit, games and CD’s, and delicious homemade granola. When a minor issue occurred, Scott was immediately responsive and helpful, and his neighbors were so kind and welcoming, which made the stay even more magical. Can’t wait to return. Thanks, Scott!
